Can bowling clubs solve male loneliness?

Hey! Nate here - I'm an independent filmmaker and documentarian, as well as the one pictured in the cool Hawaiian shirt.

I spent the last two months diving deep on the so-called "male loneliness epidemic," speaking with everyone from a world-renowned psychologist to the manager of an 102-year-old bowling alley. Plus: I staged a bowling tournament for 16 male podcasters.

The Rehearsal was a huge inspiration to both our story and visuals. Tried to capture that same observational, hyper-specific human energy.

I'll drop the YouTube link in the comments for anyone interested in watching. And let me know what I should investigate next!

I visited Chicago's oldest bowling alley (102 years old, hidden in Norwood Park)

Hey! Nate here - I'm an independent journalist and filmmaker.

I recently visited Chicago's oldest bowling alley. Parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church in Norwood Park built the four-lane alley under the church's school way back in 1924. It quickly became an affordable social space for the congregation to come together during the Great Depression, and it's survived due to the contributions of volunteers ever since.

Anyway, I just released a short documentary that follows the so-called "loneliness epidemic" - and the revival of third spaces as a direct response. As part of the film, we featured Immaculate Conception, speaking with Kevin (the alley's manager) and learning more about how they've kept the space open so long.

You can watch the doc here: https://youtu.be/H4hCiO6-4Ng?si=RhgKHRdcDLy_uqnk

Figured this community would enjoy it, as there's plenty of Chicago landmarks sprinkled throughout. Let me know if there's any other hidden gems I should document next!

Is "clipping" just the new + improved version of "faceless" channels?

Hey fellow citizens! Nate here, I'm an independent journalist.

After WIRED claimed that the explosive rise of the band Geese was a "psyop," we spent the next several months tracking down journalists, military experts, and even a 20-year-old "clipping" agency founder to find an answer for ourselves.

The results may (or may not) surprise you. But what I personally found fascinating was just how mainstream algorithmic manipulation has become - even if the general public has yet to catch on that the majority of their online interactions are manufactured.

Anyway, I thought Kurtistown citizens in particular would enjoy the conversations raised by the doc, especially given Kurtis' previous video about "faceless" channels. Cheers!

So Geese wasn't a "psyop" after all ...sort of

Hey! Independent journalist here. After the Geese Wired piece dropped, we spent the next several months tracking down journalists, military experts, and even a 20-year-old "clipping" agency founder/millionaire, exploring whether the band truly was a "psyop."

The results may (or may not) surprise you. But what I personally found fascinating was just how out in the open so much of this stuff is these days - even if the general public has yet to catch on that the majority of their online interactions are manufactured.

Anyway, I thought this community in particular would enjoy the conversations raised by the doc - cheers!

Last year, we began filming a documentary about the viral "Man in Bean" conspiracy. We thought it would be a quick, funny investigation.

We were wrong.

Six months later, the final product (as one filmmaker friend described it) is a "Fielder-esque investigation of/love letter to Chicago, in the most unlikely but worthwhile ways."

Hope you enjoy - and let us know what we should investigate next.
