Making an EToH fangame and want feedback (also for anyone who knows Studio to give me advice on how to build ts)

Me and a friend have been working on this project for the last month or so. I hope to see it actually release in fairly decent quality. We'll likely release the first alpha after finishing the Layer 1 lobby and a few structures (the tutorial, the 4 beginner structures that are tutorials for other obby types, a psych structure, and an SC) alongside adding practice mode and a few basic settings.

Notes:

I'm not expecting this to do amazing and get to like TEA levels of popularity obviously, especially with the state of Roblox at the moment. I just want to build a project that can be enjoyed by whoever decides to give it some time, and to make a fangame with similar quality of life to TEA/CSCD while also being beginner-friendly.

Manor checkpoints, our slightly different killbricks, and a guide to customize them alongside regen for dungeons are planned to be in a kit to be used alongside the regular EToH kit to build SRMT structures.

If anyone knows how to make the game not require age verification to unlock that would be great. I'm aiming for a Minimal age rating and would prefer for people to be able to play this without needing to send their face to Persona.

Doing a survey for opinions on quality of most of the towers in EToH

it'd be great if some of you could fill this out, however it may take a while especially if you've played a lot of towers so be aware of that before starting

random difficulty game

Due to the sheer variation in difficulty of towers in EToH, the game needs 13 (more if you count the impossible ones and Effortless) difficulties. When having to name all these difficulties, eventually you stop being able to find words that exceed the level of the last in terms of how hard they make the tower sound. So it can be arbitrary, I can definitely imagine a world where Insane = Remorseless, Extreme = Insane, and Remorseless = Extreme.

That being said, here's a bunch more words that could be used to describe the difficulty of towers. I want you to comment down which two difficulties you think each word would be in between (e.g. if the word's "Master" you might say in between Remorseless and Insane). Additionally, maybe comment what colour you think it would be?

Here are the words:

"Monstrous"

"Unfathomable"

"Tough"

"Monumental"

"Exorbitant"

"Excruciating"

"Apocalyptic"

How hard would Goldens of each chapter of Celeste be in EToH terms?

just for fun bcs i'm curious don't take this too seriously okay

I started playing Celeste for the first time a day ago and am on Chapter 3 right now, not aiming for goldens yet obviously but the keyboard hell is already getting insane.

When comparing it to EToH, it felt like Celeste had Intense-difficulty obstacles on Chapter 1, though for just passing it's much, much more forgiving in terms of punishment. For Goldens (beating it deathless), that forgiveness goes away though.

Personally from my limited experience goldens of Chapters 1 and 2 are probably comparable to high challenging? What do you think especially if you're actually experienced at both.

What causes "power creep" with the skill ceiling over generations of players? (random thoughts)

Picture this: The year is 2040. Luckily, the GD community still exists, but nobody was ever able to overtake Zoink as the #1 player. He verified some insane shit in 2030 which is the current top 1, but since then due to age and overall boredom with the game he hasn't been as skilled as in his prime.

Weird how that basically never happens. The skill ceiling's rise may slow down, but it's never stopped in the history of GD, osu!, maxmodes, EToH, or any other sweaty game I can think of. And it's almost never just 1 player pushing it over extended periods of time either. Every couple years in these communities (though osu! and GD have had the same top player for a while now), someone new comes along and pushes the community's limits in terms of skill.

Here's the 4 potential reasons I've come up with as to why the skill ceiling almost never stagnates at a certain point.

1. Community growth leading to higher odds for prodigies to exist: Due to the population rising overtime alongside potential virality on social media for the game in certain cases, these communities tend to grow over time. If a million people exist in a community, chances are at least one is gonna be an insane outlier that progressed really fast as a beginner and is now able to beat unfathomably difficult things.

2. Pioneer/student scenarios: As they're interested in pushing the game's limits, top players often teach other people whatever tech or mental tricks they know that helped them with the game, allowing newer players to progress faster since they know these from the start. And then the students find new tech, practice methods, and mental tricks which they teach to the next generation of players...

3. Hardware/QoL improvements: Needs no explanation. If Riot had CBF, a Sayo, and a 240hz monitor, he likely would've gone quite a bit further than Bloodbath back when he was #1.

4. Top players giving others proof that insane skill level is possible: Since top players are so known and praised in these communities, levels they beat that otherwise would've just been written off as impossible by most of the community are now goals that players work towards.

If you can think of other reasons why the skill ceiling is always creeping upward comment.

Hard-ass modded maps that aren't streamslop?

Experienced in vanilla but not very experienced in modded so I'd like to know some cool maps that showcase how hard the game can get.

What are some maps you like that are at least harder than Saber Blade on Expert+ that are actually mapped to represent the song to some extent and aren't just the same high-BPM stream patterns for several minutes?

Give me a link but also tell me the exact difficulty of the map (like in stars, also say if it's ScoreSaber or Beatleader as they use a different scale iirc) also I'm not too familiar with the star system so how many stars are some vanilla maps?

Opinions on this difficulty chart between various single-player games?

(hopefully this doesn't get removed for Rule 1)

DISCLAIMER: I know you can't be 100% accurate with this kind of stuff as how good a person is at the different skillsets in each game throws a wrench into everything. This isn't meant to be taken as word of God, I just want to try to get as close to objective as you can get here. I don't want to hear any comments saying this is stupid because they're incomparable.

Left-to-right: Geometry Dash, osu! standard (FCs), Eternal Towers of Hell, Maxmodes, Beat Saber (wanting to add modded songs onto the chart but don't know much about them).

Also thinking of adding osu! mania but I don't know any opinions or the size of its community and I suck at it.

What looks off to you? What looks correct? I'll eventually post this to the other communities as well.

If you're commenting opinions based on the opinions of another more experienced player, tell me where you got it from.

If you're commenting your own opinions from experience, tell me your hardest in each game you're talking about (since people tend to see things below their skill range as easily beatable by everyone).

What NOT to put in your tower (suggestions/do you agree with me)?

I'm pretty new so I apologize if I'm wrong about something here.

This focuses exclusively on bad gameplay and not deco/theming stuff.

1. Obnoxiously Long Cycles

Looking at you, ToCCC. The player shouldn't be spending 15 seconds waiting for a platform to arrive.

2. Guess If It Has A Hitbox!

Decoration shouldn't ever look like platforms. Also, some towers use transparent stuff to obscure the path ahead while others use it as ghost blocks or to indicate what an upcoming button will do. Make it clear what you're using it for in the layout, and if it isn't, make sure the section isn't too punishing, especially if below SC.

3. Client Object Induced Softlocks

ToVP has this problem. Say you've got a long jump between two rods, each hanging by a single string. If you accidentally make one of the rods turn, the jump becomes impossible. This often means any fall back to before this point forces you to restart the whole tower once you've passed it. Extra annoying on towers that rely a lot on button progress or are mostly netted. If you feel like a jump in your tower could cause a softlock, add a platform reset button before it.

4. Forced Damage Abuse

Floor 9 (I think?) of ToWER... killbricks can be used as an alternative timer, forcing you to get to the next platform quickly before you die. That's fine. The problem comes when you have a ton of forced damage followed by a safe spot and then a ton more forced damage, forcing you to spend like 30 seconds waiting to heal on that safe spot.

What do you think the average speed of progression is for a player?

this is assuming their end goal is to beat an extreme (or go further) and they don't go on many "side quests"

i'm probably very wrong but looking at streamers and such this looks roughly like it

i personally don't go for new hardests that often so mine was a lot slower

Potential TABS Tournament Rules

I don't have the tools to set up something yet but I feel like this would be an interesting ruleset:

Each match is a best out of 3, but each of the 3 rounds triples in size:

Round 1: Both players have 2000 gold, stuff like positioning is much more important here

Round 2: Both players have 6000 gold

Round 3: Both players have 18000 gold, complex due to its size but each individual unit isn't as important

The map is randomized for each round, but all matches use default lines. Which player is red and which is blue is also randomized. If the map is particularly strange, this can heavily affect which strategies are viable.

The team-building time limit is 5 minutes. While team-building, you cannot see your opponent building their team. This is to ensure neither player can make a specific counter-team for the other's.

Present Elves are banned, for the same reason OHKO moves in competitive Pokemon are banned: "Hee hee lucky" strategies are anti-competitive.

If your team contains more than 1 Cheerleader you aren't allowed to control your units, just due to cheered-on siege strategies being unfairly powerful compared to everything else in the game.
