globalnews.caTaxes owing on investments, bank told executor they are responsible for paying them out of their pocket
A family member is executing an estate. As they are attempting to transfer a RIF and TFSA to the beneficiary, the (big five) bank these are held at is claiming taxes are owed and made it sound like the taxes are payable out of pocket by the executor.
What taxes are typically owed on these kinds of transfers? Where should the funds for those taxes be coming from? If they are to come from the estate and the estate has no assets other than is what is in the investments, how does that work? What should we be asking/telling the bank, in case we are misunderstanding what they are saying?
The estate and executor are in Alberta.
Thanks!
Did rcommendations/algorithm change?
Lately my recommendations (new albums, new tracks, stuff I'll enjoy) has gone to shit. It's almost entirely genres and artists I would never listen to.
It had been great for years.
Anyone else noticing the same?
