The synchronous condenser, built by RWE at its existing Pembroke power station site, is a large rotating machine that provides clean inertia. Inertia is a vital shock absorber, helping keep the electricity system stable during sudden changes in supply or demand.
This was traditionally supplied by coal, gas and nuclear power stations via their steam turbines. This technology pairs with grid forming batteries to provide stability to a grid with decreasing amounts of fossil fuels.

An FYI for anybody that might be interested.
>The Networked Systems Group at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics has announced that their private 5G mobile test network (Campus5G) has been opened up for anyone to try during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with free eSIM access and 5G-backed public Wi-Fi available across a big area.
>People visiting the event will thus be able to get a free eSIM through their Network Trial Guest Portal, which also provides details on how to connect to the related Public Wi-Fi network (SSID: “Campus5G Guest“) at some participating venues; these Wi-Fi networks use the group’s 5G based Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) connections, provided by their network.
>As Jiaxun Yang from the Networked Systems Group told ISPreview (here): “On the technical side, Campus5G is an Open-RAN based 5G testbed network with 20 cells, operating at n77 band with 60/80/100 MHz bandwidth and 4×4 MIMO. 9 cells will be used in this network trial” (further details).
A few years ago I started making a site to capture all the pride events in the UK. I finally got round to finishing it recently, and added the ability for anyone to contribute.
I love the idea of crowd sourcing a map of as may routes and events as possible - if there's a pride event near you, I'd love it if you could add it!
The site is https://pridemap.lgbt/

Well I finally sat down and finished it this weekend!
It's a little out of date, and also UK focused so I added the ability to submit new routes.
I'd love to be able to cover the map with pride events globally - It's so hard to find the details for some of the smaller prides, or ones not in your language sometimes - if there's a local pride event near you, I'd love to be able to put it on the map

Gorgeous, Proterozoic schists somewhere between 1000-500ma.
Cut by a much later dyke, assumed to ~~60ma, of the British Palaeogene igneous province

Was visiting Manchester this week and took this pic from my friend's flat. Thought I would share
Stratford, CI is on the north east corridor between New Haven and Providence, yet the Acela zooms right through without stopping?
Have they considered the economic benefit of having fast trains calling at Stratford?
People love to post about the grid not coping with Scotland's wind power, but never include the context of all the in progress grid upgrades - thought I'd share this map for context
