I’ve lodged a ticket and now waiting and seeing! It’s my fault, fat fingers and all but seriously, how is there no check on purchases costing thousands of units?!

Update edit: fully refunded. It was 8 hours between me sending a ticket and them responding. Really impressed given this occurred over a weekend!

Frites Atelier pop-up (Darling Sq)

Stopped by the Frites Atelier pop-up on a whim and got their parmesan and basil mayo.

Are they good chips? Yes
Is it worth waiting more than 10 or 15 mins? No
Is it overpriced? A little bit - the one I got was $16. A few others are $12 or $14. Their beef stew one was $22 (comes with ceramic souvenir bowl)

The pop-up runs until tomorrow (11 Oct).

How long does it take to get my Velocity Gold membership pack?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I made Gold for the first time a few weeks ago, but haven’t yet received the membership pack. Is it automatic or do I need to ring them up to request it?

Full Proof (Potts Point) - overrated?

The recent thread about cinnamon donuts reminded me I had wanted to check out Full Proof but hadn’t had the chance. So a friend and I went today and, sadly, we both think it’s a bit overrated.

The made-to-order donuts are a big plus, and they’re received warm, but overall we didn’t find it all that special. My friend and I got the chicken salt and thyme, and the cinnamon sugar donut to share.

We found both to be okay, but there was way too much seasoning and we ended up having to scrape off some of the chicken salt and the cinnamon sugar to enjoy the donuts.

Overall okay but not understanding the high ratings. Are we missing something?

The East Palace really struck all the right chords… [no spoilers]

I’ve been on a really good run with K-dramas in the last couple of months… Teach You A Lesson, Agent Kim Reactivated, and now East Palace, all being absolutely excellent.

East Palace wasn’t on my to-watch list at all, but I found myself needing to take a long flight for work and decided to download episodes to watch offline on the flight.

I binged half the season one way, and the other half on the way back!

The series is super impressive, moody, and atmospheric. The set pieces were well crafted to evoke both Joseon palace life and its dark, demon equivalent. The story reveals itself in layers, with twists and turns, and very importantly, it all fit together really well and felt well-thought out and planned. Such a deeply satisfying story all told in eight episodes without unnecessary filler.

I loved the two lead performances, and I will admit here that I have always been a little lukewarm about Nam Joo-Hyuk. I never found him bad, I just never thought he was that special, but he did incredibly well in this series. The two versions of his character in different worlds were well played, and his chemistry with Roh Yoon-seo is incredible. Their scenes together are great, warm, and funny with the right emotional notes. I also really liked the performance of Cho Seung-woo as the King and Jang Young-nam as the Dowager…both were excellent and held a commanding presence throughout.

I know there’s some talk of a sequel season, but I’m sceptical if they’ll be able to do it well. I hope they do, but if we get no more, I’m happy enough with this one season.

Agent Kim Reactivated, some thoughts on the series post-finale [SPOILERS]

I really enjoyed this series. One of the few that I watched week to week. So Ji Sub never disappoints in an action series, the side characters were a lot of fun and all of the competing factions were well balanced (mostly).

Some of this is a bit nit-picky but here we go.

- The product placement in this series, though funny (Kopiko), was overwhelming. There were so many. Aside from the Kopiko, there were the cars that were just randomly strewn at convenient points all ready to be driven; the commentary on fresh water eel and how delicious it is; the extended sushi restaurant scene in the last episode; the gold company that Ju used to bribe the official and the toothless guy got his new gold teeth - made me think Ju had teamed up with toothless again; and the glasses shop at the end which I am certain was also product placement and felt so random and out of character. Those were the ones I picked up. Any others?

- Disappointed there wasn’t another beat-up of Ju and Nam at the end after the crap they pulled with the kids. That most of it happened off-screen was a bit of a letdown.

- The storyline with the original 66’s younger brother felt slightly underdone and incomplete. Like, he took the SD card before returning the director general to NK…maybe a S2?

- Liked the scene with Ju’s daughter realising her world has collapsed. Would have been good to have seen the arrest or have her at the police station when her dad got stabbed.

- No scene with Ju’s wife at the end. I remembered her being super nasty in the first episode after the bullying claim so seeing her downfall would have been satisfying.

- Would have been nice to see Min-ji in her new life and element, maybe making more genuine friends. Or maybe be introduced and befriending Da Bin and Tae Hun. She was kind of just left with Sang-a.

- Is Sang-a being set up as a romantic interest for Kim for any later seasons? Anyone read the webtoon and know?

- Finally, the mysterious person that Kim called to dismantle Juhak kind of just came out of nowhere and was a bit of a cheat. I assume he’s a character that’s familiar in the webtoon but without any reference in the series, it just felt too convenient.

- Mole Cricket redemption - “he’s actually a softie” - felt unnecessary and not really well set up.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got now that I’ve finished the series. I’d love a season two.

Clash realm event milestones - is there a glitch?

I got to these milestones and definitely recall for each one, I was able to select 10 x the shards. So for valiant it was 10 x 1750 shards. I thought it was very generous. But that doesn’t appear to have accumulated in my crystal stash.

I can’t check what the selectors are now because I’ve claimed them.

Can someone who’s at these milestones or reaching these milestones confirm if it’s 1 or 10?

Osaka DonutLab, first impressions.

I saw promos for this place on my socials and I believe they just opened this week. I walked by today, saw it wasn’t overly busy, and thought I’d give it a try. Around 10:30 am.

A disorganised and frustrating experience. It took me 20 minutes to buy takeaway donuts despite there only being four people ahead of me; the staff seemed confused about what they were doing, several of them moving about looking lost; they didn’t seem to know what was available and what was not, telling me one item I had wanted was not available but then putting through the order for the customer after me; one person was packing the orders, so it was quite slow; the very chaotic entry way due to multiple queues for takeaway and dine-in.

By the time I walked out, there was a queue of maybe 20 people who would likely be waiting 40 minutes or more.

Maybe it’s teething problems with the opening and service might improve. I don’t know.

The donuts themselves are quite small (50c for scale). They were fine but not spectacular. The brioche texture is not as soft as it could be and a bit dry. Not worth the effort or price, to be honest.

Overall, very overhyped, but I guess I should have expected that given its association with KOI. Suggest if you want to try them, wait a few weeks when the hype will inevitably die down for a less frustrating experience.

Drama: My Royal Nemesis

I was sceptical of this series but really enjoying it and now struggling realising I’ll need to wait another week for more episodes!

…thinks Kim Ju Ho (played by Choi Daniel) is hotter than Soon Rok, right? I know he’s painted as the antagonist for this season and slightly childish but I think he’s straight up hotter and probably a pretty fun guy to hang around.

Anyone else? lol
