Are headphones actually banned while walking in Sri Lanka?

Bro, wtf is this I’m hearing? 😭 Walking home from the gym with my headphones on was literally one of my favorite things to do. Did they actually make this illegal in Sri Lanka now?

Does anyone else feel like the tech hiring process is completely broken in SL?

7+ months of applying for internships has completely drained me, so I’m going to vent for a bit.

I’m graduating soon with a degree in Business Analytics. I’ve spent months learning + building, and putting together a well polished portfolio.

I’ve applied through company websites, tailored my applications, reached out to recruiters (WHO NEVER REPLY btw, no matter how friendly their bio makes them look). The one and only interview I’ve landed was through my university’s career day for this top-notch company. I made it through multiple rounds but didn’t get the final offer, which is kinda fair they gave me a chance at-least, also i made it till the final rounds so i def not as dumb, not to land anything else.

Other than that? Almost complete silence- its as if recruiters don’t even look at my profile, i know this is true cuz i have linked in premium and not even a profile visit from an actual recruiter- like tf is a hiring process bro, what does an HR even assess in the initial screening? “Talent Acquisition Partners” they call themselves.

What’s frustrating is seeing people I know get hired when, based on my experience working with them on academic group projects, they were mostly incompetent, but now with fancy job titles. I know that’s only my perspective, but it makes me wonder how bias the entire hiring process is. It’s basically just a joke atp i swear.

And its not as if I’m asking anyone to hand me a job. I just want an opportunity to interview and prove myself. Getting rejected after an interview is something I can accept. Getting ignored by hundreds of applications without even a flinch is crazy.

Struggling to get AI/Data Science internships despite relevant skills

I’m a 2nd-year undergraduate studying Business Data Analytics at a private university in Colombo. I study part-time due to financial constraints, and despite doing well academically and having a strong grasp of statistics, machine learning, and data science, I’ve been struggling to land a meaningful internship. (To emphasize on that- ive spent a whole lot of time self studying these topics, so when i say strong grasp its “strong” enuf for an intern, at least i think so lol)

Halfway through my degree, I realized I’m much more interested in AI, Data Science, and AI Engineering than traditional business analysis roles. The problem is that because my degree title is “Business Data Analytics” rather than Computer Science, I feel like recruiters often overlook me for technical positions before I even get an interview.

I’m trying to change my approach. Instead of relying solely on LinkedIn applications, I want to network more and meet people in person. Are there any AI, data science, startup, or tech communities, clubs, competitions, conferences, or networking events (university-affiliated or not) that you’d recommend? How do i get updates on such events?

Also, what projects would help prove that I can compete with CS students for AI/Data Science internships? I’m looking for projects that genuinely impress recruiters rather than basic portfolio projects everyone seems to have.

Any advice from people who successfully broke into AI/Data Science internships from a non-CS background would be greatly appreciated.
