Cryptids at the coffee shop!

A coffee shop I like to go to does a community input question and this week it’s about cryptids! Some of them made me chuckle and I had to share!

How to get painters tape adhesive off?

I took a break from this bark quilt project and left Painters tape on it for too long. Peeled it off and there’s lots of adhesive left behind. Surface is wood, painted with acrylic. Google says to use some kind of oil to remove the adhesive, but I still need to paint on the surface. Any suggestions??

Should I just let my greys grow in?

I’m a 34yo woman, and I’ve been covering my grays for about 10 years at this point. I’m probably about 10-20% grey. I’m scared of letting my grey hairs just grow in because the growth process seems arduous (kind of like a years-long in-between stage of growing out fuck ass bangs). I always told myself I would wait until my hair was almost completely grey, but this can be exhausting!

Thoughts??

How to support my grandmother

My grandmother had a really bad fall about 2 months ago. The fall resulted in a major brain bleed, with some subsequent mild seizures. She has been either in the hospital or nursing home ever since, with hopes that she can eventually recover to a level to return home. Prior to this event, she was an incredibly active woman who volunteered, exercised, and socialized.

At this point, she is starting to say short phrases, but very mumbled. She has very little control over her body. She just started being able to eat pureed foods that are spoon fed to her (otherwise she utilizes a g-tube). Her fine motor skills just aren't there, so she can't even use the TV remote. She seems very aware of her surroundings, she recognizes visitors.

She has become very emotional in the last couple days (in 65+ years of marriage, my grandfather has never seen her cry before this -- she's very stoic with her emotions). We think she is coming to terms with the severity of her accident and the difficult recovery ahead (a recovery that likely won't result in functioning the way she once did). I assume she feels like a prisoner in her own body right now.

Here's where I'm wanting guidance: What are some things I can do with her that might be stimulating and enjoyable? I imagine she's getting incredibly bored with being confined to a hospital bed (with occasional recliner/wheelchair time). Thoughts??

Kitten rejecting the cone of shame

My 6 month old male kitten got neutered today and he’s not handling the cone very well. He came home in a hard cone from the vet, which he found very uncomfortable and eventually got out of while in his carrier in the car. We picked up a soft inflatable recover collar, and he keeps getting out of that too. He’s already tried licking his incision multiple times, so no cone hardly seems possible. Idk what to do — I have to go to work tomorrow! 😩

Advice please!

Automatic toys?

My newest addition (male, approx 6 months old) is a playful chaos demon. He’s terrorizing everyone at night. My 15yo cat is not interested in playing at night. Kitten is constantly pouncing on me while I’m sleeping, biting my toes and fingers. Also pouncing on my older cat.

I have an automatic laser toy that helps (I just take him to the toy, turn it on, and it helps redirect him for a bit) but he’s already getting bored with that. Does anyone have suggestions for *quiet* nighttime toys to keep a kitten entertained?

I just need to say this in a safe space.

My husband and I have been TTC for 4 years. No pregnancies, no losses. Good results on fertility testing.

My grandparents are older (88 & 90) but in great health. Ever since I realized we were struggling to get pregnant, my biggest fear has been that I won’t have a baby before one of them passes. My grandma took a pretty bad fall 10 days ago, and she has a brain bleed. At first, it seemed like she was recovering. Now, not so much. It’s getting very scary.

My grandma is so special to me. It is absolutely destroying me that I’m still not pregnant, and my fears may be coming true. I hate this so much.

Considering purchasing, but how long were you TTC before getting pregnant with Inito?

I just learned about this product in the last week and immediately headed to Reddit to see what people had to say. It’s very reassuring to see all the “BFP” posts! But my husband and I have been trying to conceive for 4 years now with zero luck (no pregnancies, miscarriages, etc.) with no explanation for why we can’t conceive. I’m wondering if Inito could even potentially help me.

Advising client on handling loved one's delusions

Hi all, I will try to be as vague as possible to protect the client's HIPAA rights.

I have been working with this client long-term. They have a loved one who is in a psychiatric correctional facility. A major stressor for my client is that their loved one experiences lots of paranoid delusions. Client is a major source of support for their loved one. Client has learned to "go along" with the delusions to keep the peace. Client notices that when they try to challenge the delusions, their loved one becomes more anxious, angry, and explosive. When this happens, my client's mental health is majorly affected. Client asked me if going along with the delusions, rather than challenging them, is the best course -- and I said I wasn't quite sure!

My gut tells me that it is the best course, as it's not my client's responsibility to treat their loved one's mental illness. However, I would appreciate some feedback. I let my client know that I didn't know the best strategy, but that I would do some research.

Kitten/pig advice?

Looking to see if anyone has been through a similar experience and has any advice. When we brought guinea pigs into the family, we already had 2 adult cats. Shockingly, they didn’t seem to mind/care about the guinea pigs much (beyond a little curiosity) so we’ve gotten pretty lucky!
Enter our new kitten, Petey. Petey has quite an interest in our girl Willow. I don’t see any signs of aggression (thank goodness). He seems to really want the pig to play with him. However, he won’t stay out of the damn cage!!! We pull him out and firmly say “NO.” Many times we’ll take him back to his quarantine room, in hopes that he’ll understand that we’re separating him as a consequence.
(To be clear, he is not around the pig cage unsupervised AT ALL. We are paying very close attention. He’s still quarantined for a lot of the time because he can’t use the same litter box as my other cat until he’s cleared by the vet.)
Has anyone been through this scenario and figured out a solution?

Kitten doesn’t care for wet food

I’ve had this kitten for 2 weeks, he’s about 4.5 months old. At first, he ate the wet food pretty well. Now, he’s disinterested and prefers the dry food. (For context, wet food is Fancy Feast Kitten and dry food is Royal Canin Baby Cat.) Some days, he’ll eat most of his morning wet food. But other days, like today, I’ll find he didn’t eat his dinner wet food and won’t really touch the morning food.

I’ve only ever had full grown cats. It seems like all the sources on kitten care regard wet food as vital for them. Thoughts??

Help me figure out the next 24 hours!!

To preface, I feel like an idiot for thinking I was getting a kitten from a safe situation. This woman in a Facebook group was sharing about foster kittens and I got duped into thinking she was legit. But this was more of an animal hoarding situation.

I couldn’t leave the kitten behind, so here we are. I have a male kitten that’s about 12-15 weeks old. Not neutered. She says he’s had 2 FVRCP and FelV vaccines, but still needs his 14-16 week shots. She says he’s had “a round of” amoxoclav and ciprofloxacon eye drops. She says he’s had revolution flea treatment this morning. I don’t know how much I trust this information.

He clearly has an upper respiratory infection. I gave him a bath because, despite her giving him a bath today, he smells quite bad (but clean — her home smelled very bad). I’ve flea-combed him a bit and found one live flea. I have him quarantined in my bathroom because I have another cat. Anytime I leave the bathroom, he screams his head off.

I know I’m just an anxious mess because I feel like I’ve gotten myself into a big scary mess that’s going to cost a lot of money to resolve. But I need some guidance on how to get through the next 36 hours, until I can get him to a vet.

I hate this so much.

I’ve been TTC for nearly 4 years now. Never had a pregnancy or miscarriage. This week my period was late by 4 days, so I thought maybe! I picked up a test after work yesterday. Took it this morning. Literally as I was peeing on the test, I started bleeding.

I’m so mad 😩
