I’m currently trying to decide between the Hardy Marksman in a 5wt or a 6wt as an all-arounder, but I’m a bit stuck and unfortunately I can’t test the rod in a shop before buying.

From what I’ve read, Trident Fly Fishing describes the 5wt as more of a dry fly-oriented rod with a medium-fast action, and a bit softer than rods like the Helios F or Scott Centric. However, in the Yellowstone 5-weight shootout, it seemed to be described as quite powerful and even performing really well at longer distances, better than Helios F and Scott Centric which confused me a bit compared to other reviews.

So I’m not sure where it really sits in practice. Has anyone here actually fished the Marksman in either 5wt or 6wt? How would you describe the difference in real-world use?

Any first-hand experience would really help.

On 19 May 2026, retired truck driver and hobby angler Dieter Steigmann caught a massive catfish at the Bleilochtalsperre reservoir in Thuringia, Germany. Has anyone paired an Evolution LTX 5/6 (97mm / 3.83") reel—or any reel of similar size—with a 5wt? It’s very lightweight, so balance shouldn’t be an issue—I’m mainly wondering if it looks too big or out of place on a smaller rod with no fighting butt.

Kein langer Text oder viele Worte aber bei Podcasts, die wöchentlich als Duo erscheinen, nerven oft die Gastfolgen. Meist kennt den Gast niemand, und am Ende ist er oft auch kein wirklicher Experte. Zerstört die Dynamik und für mich ein klarer Skip.

Ja, ich bin 1989 in der DDR geboren. Aber genau deshalb habe ich von der DDR praktisch nichts mitbekommen. Für manche scheint das unbegreiflich zu sein, als müsste jeder Ostdeutsche automatisch eine emotionale Bindung zur DDR haben. Habe ich aber nicht.

Ich interessiere mich für Geschichte, aber das bedeutet nicht automatisch, dass ich Interesse daran habe, wie der Alltag in der DDR war oder dass mich irgendwelche Ostalgie-Geschichten faszinieren müssen, die mir gegen meinen Willen immer wieder zyklisch erzählt werden. Dieses ganze Gerede von der „kultigen DDR“, den „guten alten Zeiten“ oder irgendwelchen Ostalgie-Mythen lässt mich komplett kalt. Ich verbinde damit weder Kindheitserinnerungen noch irgendwelche positiven Gefühle. Warum auch? Ich war ein Baby, als das alles vorbei war.

Ich identifiziere mich nicht mit einem Systems, das seinen Bürgern vorgeschrieben hat, was sie denken, sagen oder tun sollen oder die Geschichten über Mangelwirtschaft, FDJ oder irgendwelche Produkte aus dieser Zeit. Wenn ich an meine Jugend denke, denke ich an all die westlichen Dinge, mit denen ich aufgewachsen bin: Filme, Videospiele, Cartoons, Musik und die ganze Popkultur, die damals aus den USA und dem Westen kam. Das sind die Dinge, die mich geprägt haben und an denen ich mich orientiert habe.

Ja, ich kann verstehen, dass die DDR für manche Menschen mit Nostalgie oder schönen Erinnerungen verbunden ist. Das ist ihr gutes Recht. Aber ich will nichts darüber wissen. Und dieses ständige „Wir Ossis“ geht mir ebenfalls auf die Nerven. Nein es gibt kein „Wir Ossis“. Ich lasse mich nicht für diese Zeit, diese Identität oder diese Mentalität vereinnahmen. Ich teile diese Begeisterung nicht und der Russe ist auch nicht mein Freund.

I’m trying to find out the exact usable capacity (limit) of the YETI Travel Rambler 16 oz , in oz or preferably in ml.

I know it is listed as 16 oz, which is about 473 ml, but I’ve noticed with some of my other bottles that they can actually hold a bit more than the stated capacity.

What I need is the maximum amount of liquid that fits while still being able to close the bottle properly without leaking or overflowing.

Maybe someone has an idea or can measure it accurately for me?

I’m a beginner and looking for a simple pour over dripper recommendation.

My setup:

• 18 oz mug - usually one large cup with some milk
• normal electric kettle, no gooseneck
• regular pre-ground fine supermarket coffee
• preferably not plastic
• nothing complicated

I want something forgiving and practical, but still the best option for this kind of setup.

Antinatalism, then, is not simply pessimism, nor does it depend on whether people condemn or accept it today. It is the logical consequence of a consciousness that can no longer hide from itself and, sooner or later, that consequence will unfold.
