I don’t think aemond has been butchered. I think he’s far more humanized in a show where people being demoralized “aura” characters is considered cool.

Hes not a psycho so obviously damn near killing his brother haunts him, but his character will improve way more if aegon admits he made his childhood hell and they forge a bond like they have in the books.

Viserys kept rhaenyra as his heir even after having 3 sons because of his own guilt. I don’t think he ever truly forgave himself for basically gutting his first wife for a child that would’ve died anyway so he dooms the entire family essentially to try and make up for it.

It feels like aemond is fighting this war because they either win or die. He actually seemed very bothered about the Luke business but has no remorse about turning aegon crispy:

Putting yourself in a characters shoes makes you see things very differently. Imagine being the ONLY dragonrider on your side and your sisters a pacifist and your brothers a fraud who’s never fought a day in his life. The greens acted way too hastily for a team with one trump card. Even before the blacks had the dragonseeds they outnumbered them in terms of dragons.
