If you're going for status, being fit is more impressive than your watch

If you're using watches as status symbols for clout or respect, just work on your body for better ROI. Ditch the watch. A fit person with an F91W is more impressive than a fatass with a Rolex. Go hit the gym lads. You're going to get a lot more compliments about your weight-loss and being fit than "Hey nice watch."

And this is just me but if you have pudgy wrists and fat fingers, it makes your watch look worse.

Bring on the hate.

To truly appreciate XEQT, you must transcend

by getting absolutely ragdolled with individual stockpicking and options and crypto.

The path to Babylon is through XEQT and a peaceful slumber.

AI has made some opinions here completely interchangeable and those posts or reviews are becoming fucking insufferable

So they typically go something like..(and fair enough it's not just this sub):

Same cadence every time, short sentence. Longer sentence explaining the short sentence. Then some fake dramatic line like “this isn’t merely a watch, it’s a statement.” Then a forced juxtaposition between heritage and modernity, elegance and toughness, restraint and presence, whatever

Every watch is suddenly “quietly confident.” Every dial “reveals itself in the light.” Every bracelet “balances refinement with everyday wearability.” Then comes the grand conclusion about how it “earns its place in the collection”

You could swap the watch names around and the posts would still work, Tudor, Seiko, Omega, Casio, who care

Quarter of the sub sounds like chatgpt. As someone in comms, it infuriates me

Rant over. Sorry. But stop being lazy guys, honestly

Sinn is marketing for people who think marketing only works on other people

Owning a Sinn says you understand the details and care about function and you see yourself as someone who sits outside the usual luxury-watch crowd.

That is clearly orchestrated branding and Sinn does it really well, people who love and buy Sinn are buying the feeling that they are informed and hard to impress.

I'm sure this can be applied to other brands but Sinn stands out to me in particular.

Brand names with adjectives sound ridiculous, I'm looking at you Grand Seiko and Universal Geneve

That's my hot take. Come at me bro....while we're at it, wtf is King Seiko.

Fuck it, Imperial Omega and Absolute Breitling, let's see them

[Discussion] Two months later- sanity check, how are we doing with the Swatch x AP hype

I walked by my Swatch store the other day, zero lines, barely anyone in the store actually. The APs were on display but not attracting any attention. Quickly checked Chrono, some are still selling at ludicrously stupid prices.

So, has the hype fallen through now? How are we feeling about those poor souls who waited weeks outside these stores, spent thousands to flip. Can you walk inside and just buy it?

[Help] SPB509 or Doxa 250T?

Looking for some help in choosing between these two. I’m torn between the Doxa SUB 250T GMT and the Seiko SPB509.

The Seiko feels like the safer pick: better specs, longer power reserve, 300m water resistance, limited edition, and a more conventional diver GMT look.

The Doxa feels more interesting: thinner case, more vintage character, more personality, and probably a better contrast beside my Breitling Chronomat GMT.

I’m leaning Doxa because it feels like a watch I’d actually get excited to wear, while the Seiko feels more like the sensible answer on paper....

Anyone handle both? Or either?

Laco and Stowa make better fliegers than IWC

Let me first start be saying yes IWC makes a great flieger. The finishing is excellent, the bracelet feels fantastic, I get the appeal. But as a flieger, Laco and Stowa make more sense to me.

They have the historical link, they have the tool-watch identity. And the whole point of a flieger is legibility and clean dial. That is where IWC loses me, paying ten times the price for an IWC mark pilot feels hard to justify when the core design language is being done better, or at least more equally well, by brands with equal flieger credibility.

I also want to just say, the screw down onion crown on the Laco is just chef's kiss.

Bring on the downvotes.

Serious question: why are dividendgang and dividend chasers so obsessed with us?

Serious question: why are dividend-focused investors so preoccupied with total-return investing?

I barely think about dividends anymore, but dividend subs keep popping up in my feed, and the tone often seems weirdly defensive. Is it just algorithm-driven tribalism or is there something about total-return investing that dividend investors find especially annoying?? Man it's like being stalked by a crazy ex.

I haven't thought about dividends in some time but I came across the dividendgang subreddit on my homepage and holy cow it's like being stalked by a crazy ex.
