Akcje pracownicze

Zazen at home

Hi! I wanted to ask how consistent your home zazen practice is and what times of day work best for you.

During kyol che, it feels natural that you just sit no matter what - regardless of how you feel or whether you’re in the mood. It’s the same with my weekly meditation at the temple. Unfortunately, I notice that at home I start making excuses even though sitting is super important for me.

My house is quite chaotic (attention-seeking pets, including a reactive dog), and my work hours (also from home) are pretty irregular, so it’s hard for me to find one optimal time slot. Morning zazen would seem best, but I end up fighting sleepiness and I’m getting these weird dream-like sensations. Can I work on this though? Maybe I can? My focus is best around 8 PM, but that’s when a ton of daily life stuff and chores happen.

I believe (and my teachers agree) that it’s best to sit every day for at least 10 minutes (10 thousand years…) to maintain consistency, but I’m finding it difficult to stay organized. I wanted to ask how you plan your zazen sessions. Especially those who have kids, lots of responsibilities, or generally dynamic households. Thank you!

Tibetan buddhism

Hi All! I'm on holiday and met a girl here who practices buddhism in the Tibetan tradition (Diamond Way I think). I've been practicing zen for some time, and in my sangha I've never heard of the kind of things she was talking about. For example, she said with total seriousness that one of their gurus is the reincarnation of a master who died in the 80s and that he recognized her from her past life. She also mentioned they spend a lot of time exploring "past lives." I don't know much about this at all so I might be naive, but is this the vibe in other schools? It sounds like there's quite a bit of ego trip involved. In my sangha during dharma talks we discuss practice and a clear mind, not who was who in a previous life. Thanks for the response and sorry if I am not making sense but I was baffled!

Your favourite new horror lit?

Hi! I find it hard to keep up with new horror releases, but maybe you can recommend something? Is there anything good that came out recently that you really liked? I'm mostly into ghost stories or psychological thrillers, and I'm not a huge fan of gore. From the more recent books I really enjoyed Kliewer's 'We Used to Live Here', Malerman's 'Incidents Around The House' and 'Piranesi' but that wasn't really a horror book. I am also a die hard Shirley Jackson's fan. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Online SILENT videos

Hi all! I’m becoming interested in qigong as I practice once a week with a local group. I also try to do it at home and I love this morning routine because it’s so soothing: https://youtu.be/cwlvTcWR3Gs?is=sS6Virxmf0t2CWCB. I would love to explore more online because I can’t go to the local school any more often than once a week or once a two weeks.

Now, most of the online qigong classes are like 10 minutes session with a guy or lady talking all the time. I was wondering if you know any sessions similar to the one above: 20-30 minutes of silent, focused qigong without making it sound like yoga with Adriene.
Thank you!

Grzyby

Withdrawal question

I wanted to vent more than I'm looking for advice, but maybe you could share your own experiences. I’m currently in the process of tapering off SSRIs, which I’ve been on for a few years. I rushed the tapering a bit too much, so I got hit with hardcore withdrawal symptoms. Explain to me how this works, because it just blows my mind: I decide to come off the meds because therapy and a healthy lifestyle fixed me, and I have the tools to handle all of my bad thoughts and mechanisms. Then withdrawal causes all my traumas and every single negative memory and experience to come floating to the surface, and my therapeutic tools just vanish. I just sit here, sobbing and unable to calm down. HOW DOES THAT WORK? I hope that once I manage to get off them, I’ll be able to normally use what I’ve learned. For now, I’ve gone back up to a half dose to slow down the taper. WTF IS THIS. No one warned me about that.
