To pot or not to pot, that is the question

She is variegated and is already really busy pushing out a new leaf 🥰 I thought rather wait longer than shorter (esp. for the tiny spots on the aerial root, but they don’t seem to come through). However, a friend pointed out it might be good to transition now asap to give better support for the leaf growth. Side roots on the upper part seem fine now, I’m still hesitant tho.
What do y’all think?

Felt like my Bloodline Shaman needed a bit more pop

Happy with how this minimal invasive, fast idea turned out in about half an hour :) Thinking I might do more of this kind where I get a nice effect without having to sit there for a month or so haha.

Let me know what you think, what you would have done or especially what your experiences were with similar approaches!

Help identifying (Spider) Mites

https://preview.redd.it/x8xmn5l11f8h1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67b2de608cd79a5f7dcb793d59fb90b9d3948363

Hi, I caught these bad boys / girls on one of my plants. Since I recently also got predatory mites, there's a shimmer of hope that these aren't actually spider mites but one of the good ones? Is there a way for you to identify them? Does seem like a spider mite tho from what I've seen in the first google searches due to the large pincers, or do predatory mites have those too? Glad for any pointers :)

SHE LIVES! … but is now overheating?

I‘m happy to say that my rescue project is entering its next chapter, after this Alocasia shed her original droopy leaf the corm is coming back nicely. I’ve given her the brightest spot in the south facing window with a little sunshade against the most intense sun (and don’t worry, the pine bark is just a layer on top of the actual substrate mix against evaporation).

HOWEVER, with the weather reaching 30+ degrees C, I’m worrying about overheating. Even outside the humidity dome (which I’ve recently added) it reaches over 32 degrees, which I’ve read is too much for the alocasia (?).
Now I’m faced with the dilemma of moving her further back, reducing the sunlight and risking another stress reaction due to movement…

What do you do in this situation, are 32C still okay or is a slightly less bright but also cooler spot the lesser evil? Thanks for all tips.

Pumice, expanded clay (leca) and vermiculite?

Hey y’all,

I’m sure you have a take on the mixture I’m thinking of using for a semihydro setup with a wick.
I already had pumice and leca from my soil mixes and got some vermiculite to fill the coarser gaps in my first venture into semihydro.
Before I’m getting started I wanted to check whether this is actually a reasonable mix and what to pay attention to e.g. regarding the ratio?

Also, if sb happens to have experience with staking up philos up a wooden plank (instead of moss poles, lower maintenance) from semihydro, I’d be curious to your setup too.

Cheers!

Was meint ihr?

Dieffenbachia Air Layering cuts

Hi! I was hoping to find some peeps with expertise on air layering and the best spots to go about it, since I had difficulty finding info specifically for Dieffenbachias / Dumb Cane.

In the picture, I've marked in purple these nodes that have already started growth, and in orange the spots where I plan to make incisions for air layering and the later cuts for cuttings in dotted lines respectively.

I'm wondering whether the purple marked eyes can still turn into roots or are already far enough out that they decided they're becoming leaves? I.e. on the second pic it is only a smaller stub so far. I was considering how this should influence my decision on where the ideal spot is to air layer & eventually cut.

Secondly, I would be super grateful for feedback on the spots I'm planning to air layer and cut; either for plant health or aesthetic or technical reasons.

Curious to hear your thoughts and thanks in advance!

Philodendron White Wave - zusammenlassen o trennen?

Alocasia rescue / revival project

Hi, my friends who have way too little light brought me their little friend who was already in a very suboptimal state when I got her… repotted her and she went into shock.
Are there any chances that she will regrow from the base?
If yes, should I cut this dead leaf from the stem, when and where?
Happy for any clues and experiences you’ve had
