Hey everyone!

This year I have grown my hobby-studio a lot and with this I had to also grow my MIDI-capabilities.

For this I had bought an iConnectivity MioXL MIDI-hub, which works wonderfully in "DAWless" mode BUT

it does not seem to work with my DAW!

If I fire up ableton and open the MIDI-Settings I can see all the connections from the MioXL.

But once I open up a MIDI-channel and ask it to send to e. g. "Channel 9 MioXL", nothing happens.

It feels as if Ableton can currently only receive data coming in from the MioXL, but it is not sending data out to the MioXl (and thus not to my connected gear).

Could anybody perhaps help me setting this up correctly?

The Elektron Digitakt was my first "real" electronic instrument. I bought it about 6 years ago and ever since gradually built a hobby studio with a variety of gear.

That being said: I never really played the Digitakt much, because I just can't seem to wrap my head around the workflow of using samples.

On the other hand, the Syntakt is my most used instrument and I clicked with it almost immediately and quickly get into a flowstate when using it.

With the Digitakt, I find it cumbersome to search for samples and mangling them also feels rather odd (compares to mangling the sounds of the Syntakt).

Now it might be possible that I'm just not a sample-person, but perhaps I just haven't really understood some parts of it.

An example: I often see videos of people jamming on the Digitakt somewhere outdoors. Would you have an entire session of selecting, organizing and loading samples beforehand and then start jamming with that?

What about more melodic or polyphonic stuff though? Do you just have your top 10 favourite melodic loops sitting on the Digitakt and try to work with those?

On a last note: Before the Digitakt I had a Volca Sample and I love using it. It feels just so immediate. But I never changed the sounds and it's just for one-shot duties basically.

I guess I just want to learn how to use samples, because I do love some samplebased music, such as French House.

I hope I managed to describe my problem somehow. 😅

Hey everyone!

Hobby musician here. I have been playing around with various electronic music instruments over the past few years.

I gravitate most towards electronic music, techno, (french) house, minimal.

So far I enjoy synthesis the most and never quite got the grip of sampling, even though I love a lot of sample-based music.

About 3 years ago I got a subscription for both Splice and Tracklib (at an offering), never really used them and forgot about them.

Now I realized that 1.) I pay a monthly fee for those and 2.) I accumulated about 3 years worth of "credits" on each plattform

I would like to cancel my subscriptions - but that will make me lose ALL of my credits!

So now I am looking for recommendations on what to do with this huge amount of credits.

Any samplepacks or whatnot you could recommend? :)

Lebe (33m) seit gut 4 Jahren in Heidelberg und bin nun auf der Suche nach einer Gruppe/Verein, in welcher ich mich regelmäßig involvieren kann.

Primär hätte ich Interesse an kreativen Aktivitäten, wie z. B. Gesang, Theater oder Musik.

Ich habe allerdings in keinem dieser Bereiche wirkliche Erfahrungen, suche daher nach geselligen, ungezwungenen Settings auf Amateur-Niveau.

Ich hatte bereits dazu recherchiert, aber nicht wirklich etwas gefunden.

Hat jemand hierzu eine Idee oder kann eine bessere Suchmöglichkeit empfehlen? :)

After 5 years I finally had to retire my Altra Escalante 2 (?), because my fat Hobbit-feet keep getting wider.

I didn't put much research in, had read that Altra is getting increasingly narrower, but still ordered the Escalante 4.

Just received it and even in size 46.5 it seems way too narrow! :(

Now I am looking for a good, properly wide alternative.

I have recently used the Altra Lone Peak 8 for hiking and really loved it - it seems properly wide! But it doesn't seem fit for my usecase, which is:

Running on asphalt, everday walking, training in the gym. (I will attempt my first triathlon in a few weeks and I am eyeing a marathon next year)

Any recommendations are very welcome!

TL;DR: I haven't initiated sex once in 7 years of relationship and it is understandibly taking a toll on my wife. I am looking for advice on how to initiate sex, ideally in the form of a modern book.

Hey everyone!

My wife(35f) and I (33m) have been together for 7 years and married for 1.

We of course have our ups and downs but generally, we are happy together and constantly pulling the weeds, if necessary.

One part of our relationship has always been rather problematic though, which is sex.

And it seems to boil down to one key issue: According to my wife, I have not once initiated sex. She is always the person initiating.

I am not denying this, even though I wasn't really aware about it. And the matter of fact is, that my wife feels this way and she wishes for me to initiate.

Ironically, the past few years I have often felt sexually starved in the relationship: My wife had some extremely stressful years, due to her mental health and job, leading to burnout. This made me very hesitant to even talk about anything sexual. That being said we already had those problems, before she went into full on survival-mode.

Now this year she finally managed to free herself from her awful situation and tadaa: She's slowly coming back to life and I am so so so relieved and happy for her!

With this, her sexual desire is also coming back (which is lovely!) , but I am a bit paralysed by it, to be honest. I had my issues coming into the relationship, but now I am really just overwhelmed and feel as if I have never approached sex before in my life.

That being said, I have always always wanted to focus on the needs and desires of my partner and I would LOVE to give her what she needs! And cognitively I know, that it really isn't rocketscience to initiate sex. We have often talkes about her fantasies and they are suuuper basic vanilla stuff. But for the life of me, I feel like a monkey trying to steer a spaceship when trying to do so.

I believe, at its core, I'm simply afraid of fucking up. But then again I have already done so - 7 years of making my wife feel unwanted.

I REALLY want to change this and am looking for advice.

Do you happen to know any modern (perhaps feminist books) regarding this topic?

Edit: When we are intimate, it usually is ok to good I would say. I know it's not THE essential indicator, but my wife always orgasms, often through penetration, sometimes we even come together. The main issue really is everything BEFORE the actual intimacy.

Friends and I will attempt to hike the GR20 in Corsica within 12 days, starting next week (beginning of July).

Sadly, we only managed to get a spot in a refuge in 8/12 nights and we will have to bivouac for 4 nights, so we need to carry much more stuff.

It's our first time doing such a demanding tour and to be honest, I find it kind of difficult to prepare properly, because it seems really hard to get proper and non-contradicting information.

E. g. some people/sites say it is nooo problem at all to get a spontanous bivouac spot at a refuge, others say you won't get one without a reservation.

Same is true for the sleeping situation in the refuges: Some people say they provide blankets, some people say they don't. Some people say an inlay is mandatory, some people say it's optional.

My main issue: I will bring a 1p-tent and a sleeping mat for the bivouac nights. I don't know whether I should bring a sleeping bag or just warm clothes and an inlay would suffice.

Currently, without a sleeping bag, I am already carrying 16.0kgs (yikes!) including food and water and it's an awful lot.

Yet again, some nights might cool down to around 11°C and I am not sure if I would like to have a sleeping bag there.

I am considering buying a summer-sleeping bag, which is around 650g and ditch my cotton-inlay (200g) for it, but that would add 400g and much more volume.

But perhaps I would also like to have an inlay for the refuges, because they are supposedly not that hygienic?

Any feedback appreciated!

Ich denke und hoffe, dass auch langsam die Letzten in diesem Land verstehen, dass unsere klimatischen Bedingungen sich rasant verändern und in Bereiche abdriften, welche ein gutes Leben gefährden.

Ich habe noch ein einziges Wort hierzu von Merz und Konsorten gehört.

Gab es da etwas, was ich verpasst habe?

Gibt es die Möglichkeit, direkt an Menschen wie Merz zu schreiben und eine Stellungnahme zu erfragen?

Ich mache mir ernsthafte Sorgen und bin fassungslos, wie wir alle mehr oder wenig unkommentiert in diese Katastrophe hineinschlittern.

I have read though that sometimes it is possible to still bivouac outside of a refuge.

So now I am contemplating wether to get a very simple bivybag or a 1-p-tent for our trip.

Bivybag seems to be lighter, pack smaller and is more stealthy.

1-p-tent seems to be a bit heavier, much more comfortable and sturdy, but also less stealthy (?).

What would you recommend in our situation? :)

I'm looking for a simple, fun to use voice processor for my hobby setup.

I want to be able to just goof around with my voice, perhaps record some vocal one-shots for housemusic etv.

​

I do already own a Boss RC505, which is great for looping and it does have plenty of effects, some of which are made for vocal processing - but I find it rather cumbersome/daunting to use.

​

After some research I have boiled it down to the Roland VT4 vs. the Aira E4.

​

To be honest I am kind of confused about their differences - actually they seem rather similar.

​

I could get either of them at a sale for around 250€.

​

Most important to me would be ease of use/fun and perhaps portability.

​

Any 2 cents on this matter are appreciated! 🙏

Die letzten Wochen habe ich relativ viel per Ebay Kleinanzeigen verkauft.

Da ich in der Vergangenheit sehr schlechte Erfahrungen mit Versand gemacht habe, biete ich nur noch per Abholung an.

In letzter Zeit handelte es sich vor allem um musikalische Geräte, welche ich aus Hobbystudio meiner Wohnung verkaufe.

Die letzten Verkäufe habe ich mir nichts dabei gedacht, hab jeden Käufer in mein Studio gebeten, weil es in der Natur der Geräte liegt, dass man diese vor Kauf nochmal ausprobieren will/sollte.

Gestern jedoch hatte ich einen weiteren Verkauf. Der Käufer hat beim Schreiben etwas unsympathisch gewirkt, was jedoch an einer Sprachbarriere liegen könnte. Kam dann zu mir, war sehr freundlich, hab ihn in mein Studio geführt UND:

Der war so begeistert von meinem Studio, dass er nett fragte, ob er ein Video machen dürfe, um es seinem Musiker-Freund zu zeigen.

Ich freute mich über seine Begeisterung und war wohl sehr naiv und erlaubte das.

Verkäufer macht direkt FACETIME an, legt nach 10 Sekunden aber wieder auf, weil "schlechte Verbindung" (diese ist in meiner Wohnung tatsächlich schlecht).

Fragt nochmal, ob Video ok sei. Ich stimme zu und er macht 10 Sekunden Video von einem Ausschnitt meines Studios, ohne dass ich darauf bin.

​

Wir regeln den Verkauf, ich frage, ob er denn Musik mache/ein Instrument spiele. Er meint "ja, Klavier" und fragt, ob er kurz spielen könne. Ich lasse ihn an mein E-Piano und er spielt ein kurzes, schönes Stück.

Danach geht er und ich bin seitdem angespannt, weil mir erst danach kam, wie dumm das von mir war.

Jetzt stelle ich mir nur die Frage: Was nun?

Ergibt es Sinn, ihm nochmal irgendwas zu schreiben, was ihn etwas abschrecken könnte, wie z. B., ob er Interesse an einem Hundebett hätte? 😅

I had been using a Samsung Galaxy S10 for the past 7 years.

Due to the battery getting really bad and a replacement being expensive + the lack of security updates, I finally decided it was time for a new phone.

Did some research and landed on the Fairphone 6. More ethically sourced/produced, repairable, SD card slot, European, long software life, not one of the technocratic companies.

I read that people are generally happy with the FF6, but that for example the camera isn't the best of the best.

Since my Samsung Galaxy S10 was 7 years old, I thought that the FF6's camera (and performance) surely wouldn't be much worse than the S10's.

Sadly though, I have used the FF6 for about 3 months and I am not very happy, due to some things:

- it feels overall slower/less snappy than the S10

- camera quality (pictures) seems worse than the S10 and is often laggy (doesn't take a picture or with noticable delay)

- video quality is much worse (pixelated, jittery, audio barely hearable when it is a few feet away)

- screen less responsive (or much too responsive when I turn on "screen protector sensitivity", so much so that I often open the emergency menu when I have it in my pocket)

- webbroswer loading times often sluggish compared to S10

- speakers are really tinny compared to S10

The thing is: I'd like to support Fairphone and believe the overall concept should be the bare minimum industry standard.

But overall I am kind of frustrated with the phone.

I am already past the 14-day return policy but could perhaps send it back via warranty policy.

Has anybody else here made similar experiences?

Hey everyone!

We've been happily using our Trangia for 3 years.

Recently I wanted to upgrade from the spill-prone standard fuel-bottles to Trangia's fuel bottle.

Initial handling was nice and much less spilling.

During our last hike we sadly had a really big spill though: An object in my backpack seemed to have landed on the fuel bottles closing mechanism, allowing fuel to exit the bottle at certain angles.

This made me realize that Trangia's fuel bottle can't really be fully closed by e. g. a locking mechanism, which is a real oversight in my opinion.

Do you happen to know a better alternative?
