Peephole camera?

Hello,

I live in an apartment where I can't change anything on my door. I'd like to fit a camera in the inside to look into the peephole as I often order food deliveries and would like to monitor who is at the door.

I have a server with Home Assistant and everything to support a wide range of devices. Wifi, Bluetooth, Zwave, ZigBee... I pretty much got it all. However, I haven't been able to find any camera that could fit there easily. Local RTSP stream would be ideal but I'm open to suggestions. It would have to be battery powered.

Does any such device exist?

Lug bolts fit and mag offset question

Black edition MK8.5 (2025) in Canada. I have the 19" Warmenau black forged alloy wheels, the ones with 10 spokes. I'm looking at a set of mags for this winter. Someone on Marketplace is selling the Austins (OEM GTI MK7) for a good price. my understanding is that they are a perfect fit: 18x7.5", 5x112mm, 57.1mm center bore and ET49 offset.

I have two questions:

  • will my lug bolts fit as well?
  • as far as offset goes, for winter usage is it preferable to go with a lower offset (say ET40) or a bigger one (I've seen ET51 recommended)?

Thinnest cable for 50'PoE+?

I have to run a few cables around a room and to another room over baseboards. I'm in Canada, so looking at PrimeCables they have plenty of white cables that could work. Is 28 AWG too thin for that length and PoE+? Knowing I will be running 3-4 cables together, are interferences an issue?

also, as for specs, I keep seeing acronyms such as SSTP, STP, UTP, 500-550mhz, patch cable, molded cable, snagless cable, etc... not sure whether any of this matters?

thank you!

Wireless charging Pixel phones

Pixel phones have big camera bumps. Currently having issues with both my P9P and P10P. Removing the case doesn't help.

I'm wondering if there are existing solutions other than plugging in a cable to charge it (with or without a separate magnetic wireless charging pad)?

Wheels and tires for winter

I'm in Canada and just purchased a Golf R MK8.5 Black Edition. It comes with the black 19" wheels but I need to purchase winter tires of my own. I've read a lot about downsizing to 18" for winters. Is it enough? Is 17" even an option? Also, do you get regular rims or higher end mags? In my experience heavy snow sticks to steel rims thus unbalancing the car momentarily. I don't know whether mags are better or not in that regard.

Replacing one tire only on MK8.5

Hi y'all,

I'm buying a used 2025 Golf R and the dealer (Honda, mind you) detected a problem with one of the tires during their routine inspection. So they are going to replace it.

Now, I argued with them that they should at least replace 2 tires. There are about 10k km on these tires and they certainly don't look new. However, they said that only replacing one is fine. I don't have the exact thread depths but I will make sure to check when I actually get the car.

Are there any official guidelines from Volkswagen that I could show them to have them replace at least 2, if not all 4 tires? I keep reading on Reddit the tolerance with the Magna differential is about 3/32" but I don't have any proper official Volkswagen source for this and nowhere in the owners manual does it say to replace all 4 tires because it's AWD. It does say however to replace both tires on the same axle but nothing more and without any regard to the thread depth. I'd like to have a better argument when I call them back on Monday (the car is supposed to be ready Wednesday).

Thank you!

How normal/quiet can it be?

I'm considering purchasing a 2026 R Black Edition (Dolphin Gray with black roof) with the Akrapovic exhaust and the cloth seats. I'm pretty excited about the car and was able to test drive a 2024 but in the limited time that I had I wasn't able to test out everything. There are a lot of menus, custom settings etc that can only be mastered through ownership.

Anyways, I was very pleased with the performance. With that being out of the way, I'm wondering how normal can the R be driven? Let's say hypothetically I was to transport my grandma in this car, would she ever notice it's noisy or could it be driven perfectly normally with comfort mode?

One thing I've read in the reviews is that the transmission makes it really hard to behave normally. It wants to be pushed.

Anyways, I'm curious what your input might be on the *sleeper* personality of the card.

currently redesigning my living room setup and I'm having issues fitting my current stereo speakers setup. I have floor standing speakers (Paradigm Monitor v7) and while they would physically fit on the new cabinet, I've read it's not optimal.

I'm open to just changing them to bookshelf speakers but I'm worried whether it will affect audio quality overall? curious what you guys think, thank you.
