Ambient with no reverb

I recently posted here and asked for recommendations on sample based ambient music. And I'm still listening to all the great recommendations and found amazing stuff so far!

Now I'm also looking for ambient music with little to no reverb. Can be weird, strange and experimental but doesn't have to.

Again I will use one of my favorite experimental/ambient albums so far as an example:
- Aka/Darbari/Java: Magic Realism by Jon Hassell
Also I found "Sti.ll" by Taylor Deupree another great match for the description.

I like it when I can "hear" the room in an ambient track or if there is little to no room at all.

ISO "sample based" Ambient

Hey! I'm searching for ambient tracks that are not too synth driven but more based on samples or instruments especially if it's non-instrument sounding. I'm a fan of repetition.

A good example for what I'm looking for is:

- Aka/Darbari/Java: Magic Realism by Jon Hassell (I love the way he used his trumpet with pitch shifting)
- Selected Ambient Vol. II by Aphex Twin
- 13 Angels Standing Guard ’Round the Side of Your Bed by A Silver Mt. Zion (especially the sample from the beginning repeating)

Can be strange, eerie and on the experimental side and (if this subreddit allows) your own music if it fits the description. Thank you!!

I made this short film / experiment 🪰

New short. :) I had this head sculpture, Alice, lying around for quite some time with some ideas floating around. It was kind of a lesson in mixing miniatures (the room), "real-size" elements, myself in the dress, and stop motion together.

The room is a miniature made out of wood with 3D-printed furniture. In Photoshop and with my favorite Final Cut tool, the masking tool, I put it all together.

The music and sound are also made by me, and some vocals in the intro were sung by my girlfriend. :)

BEAR CHASING MAN | Dave Honegger (2026)

I made this short film to experiment and try some stuff out. I'm a fan of Lynch and Jan Švankmajer. It's a miniature set I built, and I did the sound design myself too. :)

I made this shortfilm/experiment 🐻

Another one! I was heavily inspired by David Lynch and Jan Švankmajer for this one. I built the mask a while back. It's close to how the devil looked that one time in a dream where he jumpscared me. He was fully grey.

Anyway, I built this room for another short and placed the devil mask in there to check the lighting situation, and that sparked the idea for this short.

The room is a miniature built out of wood, and I 3D-printed the window. It's a bit of an homage to some of the rooms in Švankmajer's films and shorts. The paws and feet are pencil sketches, and I composited the cactus into the set in Photoshop.

Sound is also made by me, my voice and some objects I found laying around. :)

One time the devil jumpscared me in a dream. He was completely grey. Since then I'm pretty sure he's only depicted as red because of the lighting in hell. In reality, he's grey.

I've made another shortfilm/experiment

I wanted to learn how to implement „real“ elements, such as sculptures, into a 3d scene. So I built three tree trunk/angel sculptures, took photos of them and created a landscape in Blender. The church model I „made“ with Meshy back then. (learned Blender in the meantime :D)

The rest is just some apples thrown on a plastic lawn carpet and a cut open apple getting burned with a heat gun. :D I love doing shorts like these!
