New Pen Day!

New Pen Day!

Jinhao 9019. I hesitated posting because I'm still unsure about this one haha

Not sure what I was expecting, but it's quite a bit bigger than I thought it was going to be! Feels almost cartoonishly large, with a big-ass nib (M) to match.

But! It writes undeniably smooth and wet, which I love. Feels perfect right out of the box.

Currently inked with Monteverde Brown Sugar.

Omg!

As a guy creeping up veeeery close to 350 at the start of this, I never thought I'd get to make my own Onederland post.

But folks, here I am. I made it. I freakin' did it!

And now I'm less than three pounds away from my goal!

I feel fucking invincible this morning 😆

NPD!

My first vintage fountain pen - 1960 Parker 45! I cleaned it out the best I could, but it could probably use another go around. There was a lot of old, crusty ink inside of it.

It also still has the original bladder-style converter. I'm not sure how reliable it even is anymore, so I might swap it out for a modern converter.

But for now, I've got it inked up with Iroshizuku, and it works! No skips, no hard starts. It's not as smooth as I was hoping it would be, but maybe that will improve in time.

Everyday Book in/Muir Woods out

I've caught the fountain pen bug, so (for now at least), it's farewell Field Notes 😞

New Nib Day

I received this Pilot VP as a birthday gift this year and I really like it...

But I don't love it yet. And I want to love it SO badly.

So I've pulled the trigger on a <M> nib from Goldspot.

This one came with a <F> nib, and I just can't get used to the amount of feedback. It feels too much like a pencil, and I'm searching for smooth and wet.

Anyway, my new nib is apparently going to arrive in today's mail, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't super, super excited. I'll keep you all posted when it arrives!

7/21/26 Staple Day

I needed a zen break (as the previous three pages were filled with a rant about my 7-year-old's recent antics), so I drew a little beach scene with a couple sailboats and a kite.

Believe it or not, I'm not much of an artist!

NPD! 1970 Parker Jotter Perpetual Calendar

Once my old eyes were finally able to make out the days of the week on the calendar ring, I was surprised to find that they're in Spanish! So instead of "SMTWTFS," I've got "DLMMJVS!"

I think it's pretty cool 🙂

I've made my own!

I've been a Field Notes sicko for ages, but I wish the paper they use handled fountain pens better. So I whipped this one up real quick using Tomoe River 52gsm loose leaf.

Works great, even with my super wet TWSBI Eco & Waterman Expert!

Card stock for the cover is arriving tomorrow, but I just couldn't wait to get this prototype going 😆

Might also get a corner rounder, then I'm good to go!

One year.

I did my 53rd shot today. The first one was a year ago tomorrow, June 29th.

344 -> 209

Never in a million years did I believe I would get this far. It hasn't all been easy; strikes and gutters, ups and downs...but I've never been more grateful for a medication in my entire life.

I feel like I got my life back, and, for once, I'm excited for what the next 40ish years will bring.

Ten more pounds until maintenance, let's goooooo!

My new set

Scored a free vintage set from (I think) 1981. Neighbor left it on his curb with a big ol' FREE sign. Absolutely love the bag.

Moleskine & Schmidt Easyflow

Impulse bought a Cahier 3-pack for the ol' Lochby pocket journal, never having used them before (Field Notes guy up til now). I pretty much exclusively use a Parker Jotter with Easyflow 9000 refill.

Am I going to be delighted or disappointed

NPD!

It's way too light, feels incredibly unbalanced in the hand, the clip feels like it'll snap at any moment, and the refill is shit...but when you rotate the white sphere, the little hamburger spins around whimsically. So I'm calling it a win.

Smooth Sailing

Love it when an overnight cook comes off without a hitch. Thirteen more degrees to go!

(Pork shoulder, btw)
