Thanks to /u/rusted17 for the inspiration for a Staple Day Collage — and a terrific use finally (and more fully) of my little collage box at work (see 2nd photo).

Paper and Pencil - New vs Used

Happy Monday! Here are scans of the Paper and Pencil Field Notes notebooks (FNxPP-01). These came in a set of two with the first notebook having a first of its kind (for Field Notes) paper deemed "ephemera," and the second being regular ruled paper. You're invited to reply with photos of the cover of your used/decorated Field Notes of the same edition! No link on Field Notes or Pencil & Paper websites. What edition would you like to see next?

Note: This post is part of an ongoing reference project. See pinned post for Master Index (or link here).

In notas de campo // Out east fork

Used the East Fork since November 2025, a lot of memorable notes, my sons first time going to the aquarium, taped the bus ticket in and asked them to stamp my book. I absolutely love these little books so much. They’re absolutely fucking perfect.

New to this…be nice

Long time admirer of journaling and all things related to Field Notes, Lochby, etc. However, I’ve never been consistent with carrying a notebook with me outside of work until recently. With that being said, are there places where people may donate unused Field Notes? The reason I ask is because I don’t want to spend a lot of money on something I haven’t been too consistent with just yet. But would like to start off with a few journals around the house and car to get myself into the habit. The goal is to eventually become consistent and even to have some to bring for co-workers and family.

Selling a collection

I collected field notes for a few years around 2019-2023. I’m looking to sell the collection off. Any suggestions on the best method ?

Should I list individual packs or subscriber sets on eBay ?

What’s the best way to understand values of these old packs and sets ?

What do people use the reporter notebooks for?

I mean other than reporting and lists does anyone have any other uses for it?
There’s been a couple court trials I’ve been interested in so I was thinking of using one to document it and my thoughts/opinions and the overall outcome of the trial.
How do you guys use them?

Log And Jotter August 2026

Curious to see what baseball cards my fellow L+J subscribers got this month. I’m not a big baseball guy, and I have no clue who David Wells is, but this is still a fun little extra this month.

Using “Lucky” to start my annual reading of the 2026 Booker Prize Longlist

Every year I try to read through the booker prize longlist with as many titles as I can get via the public library. Using field notes to track which books I have on hold (empty spaces are titles my library doesn’t yet have) and will fill the book with notes and reviews on each book. Sometimes it takes me an entire year to source each book, it’s a fun little side project.
