Hi, I had a few quick questions about the Writer as Witness "program" that American requires freshmen to do. I've already read this year's book, but I'm unsure of a few things, so if anyone here who has already done the Writer as Witness/First year College Writing class could give some insight, that would be helpful:

1. It says on the Student Checklist and in the Weekly Update they just sent out that the book is due August 15th (this Saturday). Is there actually anything to do/submit for this, or is this just a general guideline of when you should be done reading the book?

2. What is the writing/essay or whatever they have you do on the book typically structured like? I saw we're meeting with the author in the Bender Arena in early September, but I also saw that we'll be writing about the book in class. Is it just an essay on the book, or something else?

Hey, I'm an incoming Freshman and was wondering (if anyone has the answers) a few things:

1. How are the rooms/beds and desks arranged on move in day typically at Letts? Is there a "default" layout the beds come in, or is it just random to how the previous occupants had it?

2. Once Im all moved in and my roommate is also moved in, what is the best way to start conversing with people and making friends? There's orientation obviously, but any other suggestions?

After 2+ years of being with this company, my last day is finally at the end of this week. Transfer was denied, district manager is being an asshole about it, and I finally have my last day scheduled for this Friday. It’s honestly been such a wild ride, and seeing how much this company has changed in just a little over two years ago is mind boggling. From canned energy drinks, to spicy refreshers, and now the return of the Unicorn Frappuccino.

The only thing that allowed me to survive this long was the people I worked with. Shout out to my coffeehouse leader for being the greatest, and my fellow Partners. Without them, this job genuinely would’ve been impossible to last in for this long.

I think my favorite memory was when we had a blizzard and were forced to come in by corporate, but the moment I arrived to my shift, our power went out so we just played uno in the lobby for like an hour until we were allowed to go home.

Been a wild ride, but I’m glad that I was here for the ride, even through the shitty parts and moments of the job.

Okay, so this happened like a week ago, and I kind of forgot about it until the customer came back in today and was being rude again, so I figured I'd share the bagel freakout incident at my store that pissed me off.

Basically, this guy orders a bagel with cream cheese. I'm cutting the bagel (as I normally would), and he shouts from the register, "Excuse me!" I turn around, and he says, "Did Starbucks ever train you how to cut a bagel?!" I kind of look at him, dumbfounded, because I have no idea why he's shouting this or even yelling at all in the first place. I tell him, "Yeah, I guess? But I'm just cutting the bagel like I normally would..."

He basically interrupts me and starts getting even louder and more mad: "You're cutting the bagel completely wrong! And you're getting the bagel everywhere!" Mind you, the only thing that's "everywhere" is the seeds from the everything bagel I'm actively cutting.

This is where my manager steps in because he can see that this guy is getting upset over literally nothing, and the customer proceeds to say, and I quote, "I come to Starbucks because I expect better service and employees than a Dunkin' Donuts."

Sir...what the fuck are you talking about? I'm literally standing here staring at him like he has 3 heads because I genuinely cannot understand why he was getting so upset, so angry, at the way I was cutting his bagel.

My manager tries to de-escalate by saying, "Would you like us to get you a fresh new bagel?" to which he responds, "You guys probobly don't even sell anything fresh here, probobly all frozen." UHHH yep, you're correct, so why tf are you here then at Starbucks if you have a problem with the food?

I genuinely cannot believe this happened to begin with, but I proceeded to make him a new bagel after my manager de-escalated the situation and whatnot, to which he was staring at me the entire time, and also to which I proceeded to cut the bagel the EXACT same way I did the first time, and he says, "Much better," when I hand him the bagel.

Istg, I don't understand how some people function in their day-to-day lives. It's beyond me that shit like this even happens, and how you can even show your face at the store again after basically being stared at like you're crazy by other partners.

And I still, to this day, have no idea why he was yelling over a bagel.

Hey ya'll, so sorry for releasing the new search feature in its current form. It should not have gone out the way it was, especially without a way to disable it.

I just pushed out an emergency patch update to Chrome and Firefox to fully remove the new search ui completley. Another patch will go out in a few days to fix other bugs reported to me about the new version.

Thank you to the many who reported the issues with the new search ui. Appreciate your feedback.

I recommend manually updating your extension in Firefox or Chrome/Chromium so you don't have to wait for it to be pushed out to everyone, which can sometimes take a day or two. The patch is now live on both Chrome and Firefox.

Hello Reddit (once again)!

I just wanted to give those who use BetterAOTY on here a quick update on an update I'm currently working on for my extension, BetterAOTY.

First off, I apologize for the long wait for a new update (even a patch update). It's been nearly 3 months! But good news, an update is in the works.

I don't want to reveal anything yet; however, the update is still in the phase where, if you have a suggestion, I am more than willing to implement it if it's realistic. So, if you have any feature requests or ideas, let me know either below or by DM'ing me.

Hey, I was wondering if it's possible to roommate with someone who's not in the university college program with someone who is? I would assume if you request each other in the housing portal you can, but I'm not sure.
