Internal spoke nipples feedback

Hi,
I am an experienced builder, but there is always a first!
This time for me is : internal spoke nipples.

I have already serviced wheels with upside-down nipples (Enve…) but this time it is a clean sheet assembly. I am on the spoke length calculation step and I am wondering which NSD add-on I will add to the rim ERD.

The nipples are not decided yet, as the goal is to have the lightest wheel I have been asked for aluminium nipple. In that case I would chose the Sapim Upside-Down in 12mm
But I recomment brass nipple for corrosion prevention (it will be a carbon rim with tubeless tire and sealant, so corrosion will happen), so I adviced for a Sapim brass upside-down, 10mm should be sufficient.

In any case, it does not solve my issue : the NSD add-on. I do have the luck to have those nuts in stock so I cannot measure myself and ask for a help : what are the values you use, for which kind of nipple?

Best Allroad/Light gravel tire in 2026?

Hi, I have just bought a Cannondale Synapse to replace my former gravel bike, and as I bought the bike without wheels I am now searching for tires.
My previous gravel bike was running on Tufo Thunderos 40mm, I liked them a lot and were perfect for the bike. Light, very resistant to puncture and wear (not a single problem in +2000km) and quick everywhere.

Lately I rode mostly pavement/Cat.1 Gravel (this is why I chose the Synapse over a new gravel bike) but I still want to be able to cut through gravel trails. Some roads around me are very damaged and dirty/muddy during winter so I do not want a slick tire, I want to keep some confidence in downhill/braking. So I search for what I think is an AllRoad tire, the frame has a 42mm capacity but I do not feel the need to go this big (and I have kept my gravel wheels if I need big tires)

I narrowed a list to those products, maybe some of you have already ridden them and could help me chose?

  • Continental Terra Competition 700x35c Race Rapid : 355g so as light as a similar sized GP5000, I suppose the center thread will quickly wear and become slick, seems to be a nice tire for allroad while keeping some performance feeling on the road?
  • Tufo Thundero in 700x36c : 385g, it could be the most safe or conservative choice as I like the handling of the thread, but I just want something quicker than a full thread gravel tire
  • Michelin Power Adventure 700x36c : 390g, slick center which might be perfect on road but a review on bigger size rank it way slower than gravel tires which is strange
  • Specialized Pathfinder TLR 700x35 : 380g, seems an in-between the Michelin and the Tufo on paper but cannot find any review in this size yet

There might be other tires that could suit this bike?

Yes, those are more gravel tires than road tires! I am more a MTBiker so I miss some confidence with full slick tires on greasy roads, and cannot refrain me to cut through some trails !

New bike, what to expect?

Hi all!
I currently own a Megamo, it is a kind of prototype Megamo used for their team (its name is CX Team UCI 2019) but I think it is just an open mold bike that Megamo ordered from their chinese maker, in order to give to their team a frame for the winter CX season (they have never made a CX bike I think). You can find similar frame under the name « GR029 » in several chinese sites, the specs and geometry are similar.
Anyway, this bike has been really great so far, I used it as a Gravel/Road bike with 40mm Tufo on it. With a single ring GRX Di2 groupset and custom 35mm Carbon wheels. It is around 8kg today. I like it but after 6 years I just want to change for something more modern
I have an offer made to me on a Cannondale Synapse 2026. What is fun is that the tire clearance is the same (42mm) so I can re-use my Gravel wheelset if needed, and the geometry is exactly the same!!! Reach, Stack, Top Tube, Chainstay… have the same values down to the millimeter. Only the BB will be some 5mm lower, and Front Center is 10mm bigger due to a larger offset on the fork (55mm on the Synapse vs 45mm on the Megamo)

I really like the look of the Synapse with the hidden cable routing, it also has a storage on the down tube and UDH hanger that are great additions.
But in the end, if I keep my current 1200g wheelset (not the one from the pictures), what can I expect from this bike change? Only the look of a more modern and aero bike?

X2D Firmware update 1.02.00.00

I have received a firmware update prompt on my X2D, from 1.01.01.00 to 1.02.00.00
The AMS 2 is also asking to go from 04.01.21.95 to 05.00.22.19
I could not find any documentation on this new version, nothing on the Wiki (and I am not part of the bêta firmware program) : do you have the same update? Anyone did it already and can report the results?

I was opening my AliExpress app, and the magic of internet cookies brought me this disk facing tool on the main page

It seems to be a mix of the Var tool and the Park DT-5.2, but with a single facing cutting disc which is spring loaded.
For nearly 1/8 of the price, do you think it can worth it for someone who has to face a frame and a fork every 2/3 years?

Home Assistant on Android tablet or HikVision indoor screen?

Hi all! I am searching for an external point of view on my installation.

We have a relatively new house, and are currently building the gate. I plan to install a HIKVision video intercom (DS-KV6124-WBE1) that will be used as a video doorbell/gate actuation thanks to its integrated relays. On paper it can call me on my phone when someone ring and I am not at home, and can also be used as outdoor camera.
Inside the house, I already use the HIKVision AX Pro alarm that I can pilot with Home Assistant (not perfectly as there is some delay but it is at least very reliable), from phone/tablet/computer.

I plan to install a small tablet inside, at the main door that will primary be used to answer to the gate doorbell, and activate/desactivate the alarm. It would be great if we can also pilot some device of the house from there with a small dashboard where only the main devices will appear (lights/covers/temps). I would prefer a small size for this screen (approx. 8in)

HikVision provide their own indoor screen panels, but they are not compatible with Home Assistant (except maybe some old Android stuff but they seems really underpowered and slow anyway). So I will not be able to pilot the house from there, but I suppose it will be perfect for the gate and the alarm.
If I find a suitable Android tablet, it will probably be perfect for the Home Assistant dashboard, but I fear that the compatibility with the HIK-Connect app might be laggy (I might not be able to have a 100% local usage and might be dependant to their cloud and internet connection).

Does anybody here have the same usecase (HIK Vision alarm + video intercom)? How do you handle it?

Tire nerds : which agressive combo for a DownCountry bike?

Hi! I own a Scott Spark RC in 120/120mm, currently with Schwalbe Racing Ray/Ralph in 2.35 which are ok for most of my ride. I weight 70kg. I loved my previous years as downhiller but some wounds told me to calm down a bit 🥲
I have sold my Mondraker Foxy as I did not use it enough (my new area is not technical enough). The Foxy was a perfect bike and lately had a tire combo Magic Mary/Rock Razor which was really fun and quite efficient even on technical trails from south of France.
I do not plan to Endurize the Spark (it will not work) but I still travel from time to time to the mountain and I also want spare tires to play with friends and their All Mountain bikes. As the Rock Razor is not available anymore, I search for another fun combo that can pedal.
I narrowed to those sets, do you have any feedback on them?
- Schwalbe Tacky Chan Race Pro Soft / Romy Race Pro Mid : 1025g/970g in diagonal casing, this combo seems very interesting, weight is ok but not much feedback for now. I thing the Race Pro casing should be enough, Radial versions are heavier but seems interesting
- Continental Kryptotal Fr Trail Soft / Xynotal Trail Endurance : 1060g/1060g, just a touch heavier but does it mean more grip? I have read some difficulties with sealing and wobble on the casing,
- Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M / R in ProWall casing : 990g/940g read some nice reviews about them but the side knobs arrangement is unusual
- Maxxis Assegai / Dissector 2 : heavier set, at least with Maxxgrip for the front, maybe too much for a 120/120mm bike?

I have used my Radar EV Prizm Trail for several years now, and I was very happy with them but the coating is damaged and I need to replace them. I use them exclusively for MTB riding and I really like those lenses, I switch to clear lens in winter tho.
But I want to change, I have used RadarLock then Radar EV for… I cannot remember how long but I feel it is too long now.
I have ordered a pair of Sutro S with Prizm Trail Torch, the S size is what I need and the Prizm Trail Torch seems to be ok. But I was surprised as there is no rubber boots on the branch.
This seems to be only present in Sutro « Lite » models (standard or S) but I cannot find any Sutro Lite S with Prizm Trail anywhere! Is this model discontinued?
I ride in forests mainly so I cannot have a dark lens, but I feel the Low Light is really too clear. Do you have any recommendation?
