Wash/Shade Minis

I have to accept there’s no way I’ll paint all these figures.

Has anyone ever thrown a quick wash or shading over the mini’s existing color just to make the details pop out?

Thankfully red is a pretty iconic color for the hero figures in HQ so I think it might just work out.

Where I thought Picard S3 Was Going

I couldn’t have been the only one who thought the villain of Picard S3 was going to be a resurrected Locutus, right? The Borg even had Picard’s body and everything.

Turn-Based Blobbers, do you prefer commands all at once, or as each party member’s turn comes up?

As per the title. When playing classic turn-based blobbers (Wizardry, Might & Magic, etc.) do you prefer:

* You issue commands to the party all at once and then an entire turn of combat plays out.
* You issue commands to characters as their turns come up, and the command is executed immediately?

I actually find myself preferring the first, despite it probably being less tactical and giving a less control over characters. It meshes more closely with my love for classic wizardry and viewing the party as “resources” rather than characters.

Drake in Heide’s Tower

Is there a way to approach the drake in Heide’s Tower without getting knocked down a couple times by its breath?

I can kill it easily enough ranged and the breath damage is low enough that I’m sure I can survive taking a few blasts but I’m curious if there’s a way to close to melee range that I’ve not figured out.

Alchemy

Seen a lot of discussions of mixing expansion decks into the main deck et. How do the alchemy cards work when mixed in from the start? I’ve been picking up expansions faster than I can play them but thought it’d be nice to have those included from the start if it works well.

Dark Souls 2 is hilarious

After finishing Elden Ring I started a replay the Souls titles. Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls were easy.

Started Dark Souls 2.

I died six times.

In the tutorial area.

I kept sliding off ledges to my doom.

I struggled my way out of there though to the safety of gank squads. Who despite their reputation have proven to be a fair and manageable challenge to an experienced player such as myself. Mobs with shields charging me while firebombs are being lobbed my way? Yawn. I’m gud.

Until I ventured onto a precarious perch to fetch a halberd.

9.8m/s^2 out of 10 experience so far. I’m saving up for that catfall ring.

USS Enterprise, NCC 1701-P. As in pizza.

My sister bought this for me as a gag gift for my birthday way back when Thinkgeek was still in business. Ten years ago? Fifteen years ago?

It's our primary pizza cutter to this day. Our regular pizza cutters get misplaced due to their size but this clunky, hard to hold and hard to store beast of a constitution class pasta divider is still here, and still cutting strong.

Gargoyle Gear

For my replay of DS1 I went for the Halberd and it’s been a fantastic weapon. Ended up switching to the Gargoyle’s Halberd when I finally got one in Anor Londo and think I like it even more. Wearing the Gargoyle Helm as well because it’s a surprisingly good helm, and it makes me kind of sad we don’t have more Gargoyle Gear to build a “set” out of.

I’m upgrading the Gargoyle Shield for the fun of it even though it’s suboptimal (upgrades well at least), but where’s my boots and gloves and stuff?

Given the halberd and I think even the axe inexplicably have weird resistances on them, other armor pieces having somewhat haphazard pieced together bonuses would’ve been a fun concept for a full set.

TOS Remasters Question

I don’t remember, and I was hoping someone would know: do the TOS remasters that had CGI replacements for some of the effects have an option to watch it without the new effects? Preferably still otherwise remastered.

Where to take yard waste

Where should yard waste (weed trees, brush, etc) be taken for disposal? Far too much and too large to just bag up for pickup. I’ve seen people recommend the Henderson landfill in general, would that be best for this as well?

Slower Soulslikes

Recently finished Elden Ring, and while I loved the atmosphere and world and exploration and almost everything else, the high speed, frantic boss fights were something I dreaded every time. My brain just cannot process all the delayed attacks and elaborate animations.

Are there any titles out there that hew closer to Demons souls and dark souls with the slower and more deliberate pace, particularly with respect to the bosses?

For reference, my introduction to from software was Kings field and while there’s a burgeoning market of homages to that on PC, I’ve been stuck gaming on ps5 where there aren’t nearly as many.

I don't have much to really say here - just hit the Forbidden Lands and entered the Mountaintops of the Giants and hoo boy. The difficulty spike is real. Royal Capital Lindybeige or whatchamacallit was tough but manageable. I finished DS1-3 as well as Bloodborne so I'm confident I can finish ER, even if I'm four years late to getting started.

Just got my Dark Moon Great Sword which I worried would trivialize the game but that's not proven to be true. In fact, I think having to learn the new range and timings vs old reliable Carian Knight's Sword aka "Pretty Good Straight Sword" is the main thing killing me right now. Well, actually the Knights of Zamor are the main thing killing me right now but being clumsy with my new weapon isn't helping.

Level 97. 37 vigor, 23 mind, 20 endurance, 16 strength, 12 dex, 58 int, 7 faith, 9 arcane. Despite having the DMGS still mainly relying on stick and move sorcery for most of my damage dealing -- at least until I get used to my new big sword moveset. I know the coiling twin thingy sorcery is supposed to be good, and I don't have comet azur, but I'm not sure if they're necessary or just nice to have. glintstone cometshard seems to be the best balance of damage to FP cost in my arsenal right now.

My biggest problem is I think I'm getting close to burned out. I've sunk 85 hours wandering around and suspect I've spent all the gaming energy I have getting this far, but I also worry that if I take a break I won't get back to the game and finish it. I'm enjoying ER but it's definitely taken commitment. The mental fatigue I get from being sufficiently "on" to play well in Soulslikes takes its toll.

I think I'm in the later part of the game, and it's basically a straight line from here to the end, correct? Unless I really want to grind, I shouldn't be doing a lot more wandering around? That'd definitely make this a good point to take a break and drink from some flasks of real life.

Side note - I'm not sure I like how strengthening weapons works. I get that they want to have an upgrade system, but a) without looking into guides I have no idea how to actually compare staves since they apparently scale weirdly with int and it may not be obvious until you've strengthened them? and b) it makes it a slog to switch to a new weapon since you have to go through the effort of strengthening it, which may mean buying or tracking down ingredients you don't have, just to find out if it's as good as the one you've been using all game long.

I definitely get that the goal was to make it so any weapon could be viable via strengthening, but it has the side effect of making strengthening necessary. and thus making me feel risk-averse regarding throwing resources at trying new weapons. Maybe it's just me.
