Dial My Tone’s Tone Master Pro update is live—preset downloads, USB sending and more

Hey everyone! I posted about Dial My Tone here a little while ago. The TMP support needed quite a bit of work back then, so I wanted to come back with an update now that it’s in much better shape. It's still free to use, while i test it out and gather feedback.

I generated the song Little Sister by Queens of the Stone Age as a test. see screenshot for resulting signal chain and click the link to see this chain on Dial My Tone, you can follow this link to see the full generated preset on Dial my tone.

I’ve since spent time testing with a physical TMP, playing through the presets and fixing the things that weren’t working properly.

Here’s what’s now live:-

- Download a native preset and import it through Fender Pro Control.

- Audition a tone over USB, then save it to a slot on your TMP from a compatible desktop browser.

- Parallel signal paths and Scenes, with different sounds for different parts of a song.

- Updated amp/effect settings, better volume balance between clean and driven scenes, and fixes for settings that were making some presets go silent.

The hardware testing was on firmware 1.8.58.

For anyone who missed my earlier post, Dial My Tone is a guitar tone and preset generator I built because I spend way too much time chasing tones myself.

You can ask for a particular song, an artist-inspired sound, or describe something you have in mind. DMT uses your device, guitar, pickups and how you’re listening—headphones, FRFR or an amp—to put together the amps, cabs, effects and settings.

A few other things you can do:

- See the researched original rig behind a song and how it translates to your gear.

- Ask for changes like “less gain,” “warmer lead” or “less delay” without starting over.

- Save your tones and share a preset link with someone (similar to how i shared above).

- Generate tones for other supported gear too, including Helix/HX, Fractal, Spark, HeadRush and more.

The idea is to give you a really close soubding preset to original song with artists gear, so you can spend more time playing. Your guitar and setup still make a difference, and there’s always room to tweak things to taste.

If you tried the TMP on DMT before and it didn’t work out, I’d love for you to give it another go. And if something sounds off, tell me the song, your setup and what you’re hearing. That feedback has already helped me fix a lot.

I built a Guitar tone generator that dials in HeadRush Core rigs from a song name, just added Core support (Dial My Tone)

*****

BIG UPDATE : 9/28

- Headrush Prime and Flex Prime are now added to the available modelers list as well!

- I have added a Beta feature to Send the generated Preset/tone directly to your headrush from Dial My Tone. There is a button at bottom of the preset to do that.

- For the 'Send to device' capability, I would appreciate if I could get some Headrush Core owners as testers. If you can run a request, use that functionality, and validate if the send is working that will be awesome and really helpful.

- Lastly, If it works on HR Core, it should theoretically work on Prime and Prime Flex as well. Those are next in line for me to add for send to device function.

Thank you guys!

Hey everyone! I'm a guitarist and software engineer, and I've been building a tool called Dial My Tone for about a year. It's been running for Spark, Helix, Fender, Fractal and the Tone Master Pro, and I just added the HeadRush Core. It's in beta, so I'm looking for Core owners to test it.

The idea is simple: give it a song and artist (you can ask for a specific section optionally like the intro or the solo), a player you want to sound like, or just a style with a bit of direction, and it builds a Core rig from the amps, cabs, mics and effects that are actually on the unit, with the HeadRush names.

A sample signal chain for Knights of Cydonia by Muse, generated on Dial My Tone, is attached as screenshot.

You don't have to write prompts, feed it gear info, or go back and forth for at least half an hour to get something that might be playable. All the needed things are already built in. All it needs from you is a song name or a sound idea. Within 1 minute you'll get to your sound

A few Core-specific things I cared about getting right. It lays everything out on the Straight Path routing across the 14 slots, so what you read is what you can build. Clean, rhythm and lead land as footswitch scenes. And it uses the amp and cab A/B doubling, so a song that needs two amps gets both in one rig and a scene picks the half.

One thing I want to be upfront about: there's no send and no preset file for the Core. HeadRush doesn't give us a way to do that, so you get a numbered build sheet and enter it on the unit or in the Remote Editor yourself. It's a few minutes of work, and I'd rather say that here than have you find out later.

If a tone isn't quite there, hit Revise and tell it in plain words either but custom text instruction or keywords like, "less gain", "darker", "tighter low end", and it reworks the settings with the Core's own parameters. You can also save the ones you like so they're in your library later.

It's free to start, no card needed:

Dial My Tone

The Core page with a full example is here: Supported Platforms on Dial My Tone

Of course there are still limitations like the gear you use, the quality of effects on a certain device, modeller's quality. but so far the one's i have tested sound really good.

What I'd really love is for people who know a particular tone well to try it and tell me where it gets things wrong. Amp choice, gain, the scene layout, anything. And if you've got a song with a weird or difficult guitar sound, throw that at it. Those are exactly the cases I want to find while it's in beta. Thanks in advance to anyone who tries it!

We are continually improving, so stay tuned!

I built a Helix tone generator that creates actual .hlx presets — looking for beta testers

Hey everyone! I'm a guitarist and software engineer, and for the past several months I've been building something I originally wanted for myself called Dial My Tone.

The idea is pretty simple: spend less time researching/tweaking tones and more time actually playing.

There are three ways to generate:

Song-based: Enter a song + artist (and even a specific section). It researches the guitar tone/rig and translates it into a practical setup using the amps, cabs and effects available on your Helix/HX.

Inspired-by: Give it an artist — Steve Vai, EVH, David Gilmour, etc. — and it'll build a tone inspired by that player's sound rather than targeting one specific song.

Style-based: Pick something like Rock, Metal, Blues, Funk, etc., add your own direction if you want, and have it build a tone around that.

You also choose your guitar or pickups and how you're monitoring the sound, so the result is built around more than just the song name.

For songs that need different sounds, it can build snapshots for different sections as well.

And the part I personally wanted most: for Helix Floor/LT/Rack/Native and HX Stomp/Stomp XL, you can download the actual ".hlx" preset and import it into HX Edit instead of manually copying every block and setting.

You can also revise a generated tone — less gain, more sustain, warmer, less delay, etc. — without starting over.

This isn't audio profiling/tone capture, and I'm definitely not claiming it'll magically reproduce a finished studio recording 100%. The goal is to give you a really good, researched starting point built for your actual gear, then let your ears take it from there.

Dial My Tone is currently in beta, and the whole website is free to use while I'm testing it, so feel free to put it through its paces:

Dial my Tone Website

I'd especially love feedback from experienced Helix users. Pick a song whose tone you know really well and tell me what it gets wrong — amp choice, gain, effects, cab/mic, snapshots, levels, ".hlx" import, anything.

And if you know a song with a particularly difficult or weird guitar tone, throw it at it. Those are exactly the cases I want to find during the beta. 🙂
