A cool example of how bike infrastructure makes big cities more flexible for road users

Can you imagine a truck attempting this delivery with two lines of parked cars!

Note: “Stephen Fagg” is the driver’s name, before someone gets upset!

The James and York/Wilson redesign is going to be a gridlocked disaster

After these massive bumpouts are completed, how are we going to run mass transit through an intersection with one lane in each North/South direction, while still allowing car traffic to turn? Beyond the current A Line "Express" getting stuck here, the HSRNext plans wants to send half the buses that currently stop at MacNab to West Harbour through this chokepoint. Turning traffic will not be able to clear the intersection in a light cycle because of the constant pedestrian foot traffic, forcing through traffic to be stuck waiting behind them. Turning traffic will be pushed to dart dangerously between pedestrians on a green, undermining the very Vision Zero goals this redesign was created for.

Did any professionals do a traffic study here or did we just reflexively go "Vision zero machine go BRRRRRRR"? I'm convinced we're going to run into this exact situation with the B Line LRT: the city will insist on safety measures that cripple the tram, forcing it to crawl through the city slower than a bus. If we had the political guts and voter support to ban car traffic on James this intersection plan would make some sense, but that's not going to happen any time soon. Am I missing something here?

[OC] I was way too close to being an idiot this week! A good reminder to watch your speed and that kids are everywhere

Any good experiences with Airwolf frames?

There’s a fairly upright endurance open mold on aliexpress that has an ideal geometry I’m looking for to update my Giant Defy build from 2018… but the most popular seller of it is Airwolf, which has a very polarizing reputation. CWind, who makes quite a few gravel frames and seems to be well liked, also produces the same frame, but it has basically no reviews. Am I making a mistake going with either frame? I’d be using my own FSA headset and stem, so I wouldn’t need to fart around with the typical budget headset drama.

I basically just want a Defy, but with more tire clearance. I’d swap all my Shimano 105 parts over to it and use my carbon wheels. The new Light Carbon endurance frame would otherwise be the top of my list, but the price is escalating and I’m not confident they’ll deliver in a reasonable time frame!

Is it possible to convert a 2018 Defy to use a standard carbon fork?

My 2018 Defy Advanced, which I love, has that wacky old Overdrive standard that Giant used for a time with their road bikes. I have a very lightweight tapered carbon fork that I got for a great price that I’d like to use, but it’s obviously not compatible with the headset. Is there an integrated headset option that’ll allow me to use it?

I’ll head to my Giant shop this weekend to inquire but I was wondering if anyone has tried the same thing successfully.

Thoughts on Spcycle’s huge new gravel frame (G028)?

57mm tire clearance with internal storage- seems cool! It also just showed up on Aliexpress yesterday.

Does anyone else see this superficial argument all the time in northern countries?

“What if I told you that you can reduce your car expenses by 2/3 with one simple trick”

Hopefully some local Hamiltonians will appreciate some West Harbour snark
