What are these?

I saw these beauties today on a walk through southern Rhode Island (USA). Hand is for scale. What are they?

Can someone say with confidence whether these are or aren’t cubes?

A month or so ago, I had a tub of golden halos that got contaminated. No pins had formed, but I dumped it in a shady area in my yard and crossed my fingers. I went and checked it a week or so later and I couldn’t believe it, but the entire cake was sprouting fruit! Since then the cake has been just ravaged by a skunk and other animals, but when I checked it today… more mushrooms! There’s no longer a cake for them to sprout from, but they’re growing out of the ground exactly where the cake was. They could almost certainly not be anything else, but I’m just looking for confirmation that these are what I believe them to be. (I trimmed them and washed them, that’s why the caps look a little funky around the edges.) TIA.

What is the best way to learn Pinochle?

I REALLY want to learn how to play Pinochle. I’m looking for any resources, from books to websites to apps, that you would recommend. TIA.

No way! Are these ok?

A week ago, I dumped this tub outside in my garden because a mod in the contam fam sub said it had become contaminated with a penicillium. (FWIW, I have no doubt he or she was correct.) I checked on it today and saw this! Are these good? They are the golden halo strain.

It’s only my second grow, and I have no idea if this mycelium is healthy or cooked?

My first grow went well, but the mycelium looked very different from this. Those were golden teachers, and this is golden halo. What do you think?

A question for the old timers.

I first tried mushrooms in college. I was in the class of 1985, and the mushroom scene was drastically different then. Growing as a hobby was unheard of. Would the mushrooms that I got back then more likely have been grown by somebody for sale on the black market or foraged and plucked from the wild?

First harvest! And questions

It may be fairly modest, but I’m pretty psyched about my first mushroom harvest! Golden teachers. I do have some questions now, though. you can see in the photograph of my tub how many small mushrooms and aborts there are. I try not to mess with this too much throughout the day, but I know the fuzziness means I need to provide it with even more air than I have been. Are aborts still good? And what about how small most of these are staying – is that normal and are they OK (in terms of strength I mean)? I understand my second flush will probably produce more normal-sized mushrooms, right???

Update: contaminated spawn, or bruising?

Hey everyone, the day before yesterday I noticed these bluish green spots in my jar of rice. When I asked the community here a couple people said that it could be bruising and not contamination. I am a newbie so I was surprised. Here’s where things stand now. What do you think? TIA.

So yesterday, I posted a picture of my grain spawn bag because I thought it looked like it might be contaminated. At the suggestion of one of the community members, I did a gentle break and shake last night. When I checked on it this morning though, there was a mushroom growing in the bag. I have no idea what to do. Help!

Novice grower here. I was looking at this bag this morning in anticipation of mixing it with substrate tomorrow, and I’m concerned that I’m seeing some contamination. It’s hard to see in these photos, but there is (maybe?) an area in the upper right of the grain where it’s a little grey and not white. Does this look like contamination do you? TIA.
