Are CS roles vanishing because of AI?

Hello everyone,

I studied CS myself so maybe I get to speak here.

So, with the current market in the world, did CS lose its value?

Short answer is Yes, a longer answer is.. Not in the way you think.

You have to know that since the humanity existed, jobs appear and disappear, when printers were invented, lots of writers lost their jobs because all they did was to manually write and copy books.

Another perspective for that is that: typewriters DO NOT type on their own! the demand one people who could use it MASSIVELY increased. and writing that was such a highly demanded craft became not a trend anymore.

The same pattern happened when calculators were created, when maps were invented.. etc. Markets have always shifted in history.

It's only hurting us now because it's happening to us!

So, CS jobs to answer your questions will not disappear, it will create newer roles:

1. Highly Specialized Software Architecture: AI is still bad when it comes to understanding complex, large-scale system architectures, legacy code integration, and hyper-specific business logic. The role of the "code monkey" who writes basic boilerplate code is fading, but the demand for System Architects and Engineers who can design secure, scalable, and robust systems is higher than ever.

2. AI & Data Engineering : AI models do not build or maintain themselves. There is a massive shift toward roles that focus on the infrastructure behind AI:

  • Data Engineers: Cleaning, structuring, and pipeline-managing the massive datasets AI requires.
  • MLOps (Machine Learning Operations): Deploying, monitoring, and scaling machine learning models in production environments.
  • AI Integration Specialists: Connecting LLMs and AI agents to existing corporate software safely and efficiently.

3. Cyber Security & Resilience: Probably the most critical of all, as AI generated code is very vulnerable. AI cannot autonomously defend a network without human oversight.

4. Human-Centric Product Management: An AI can generate code based on a prompt, but it doesn't understand human frustration, market gaps, or user experience (UX). CS graduates who find the gaps and bridge that messy demand of the client to the AI system will never be unwanted in the market.

So let us know what roles are vanishing, and which ones are going to POP in the upcoming years?

Algerian students who had BAC: Are you interested in Pharmacy?

Hello people of culture!

Inshallah tkono labas,

So, let's talk a little bit about Pharmacy, a specialty that some people find frightning because of the fear of unemployment.

Let's talk about what pharmacy can lead you to:

1) Officine work: well, the most obvious and known one, you need to apply for agreement (hard to get) and then you can open yours. Unless you apply in the south of Algeria as there is a lot of demand there, your process is going to run smoothly.

2) Hospital Phamacy management: Pharmacies in hospitals needs managers, so they do have openings for a pharmacy manager which is closer to being 'Officine' but in the hospital.

3) Working in pharmaceutical production: Pharmaceutical labs need to hire specialized pharmacists to work in producing different products.

4) Residanat: YES, there is residanat for pharmacy too! since you will graduate as a doctor in pharmacy, there is no higher education than that except residency. Pharmacy Residency is more narrow than medical ones and highly selective, has roles like: Biochemistry, Immunology ...etc

5) Teaching in university: Yes darling you are a doctor now, you can definitely apply to academic roles with your phd.

6) Owning your own lab: requires passing through residency in precise specialties to be eligible.

Pharmacists of Reddit, let us know more about your specialty! Do you recommend it to incoming freshmen 👀 ?

Do you guys miss people?

I'm trying to find out if it's an ENTP thing or not.

I DO NOT seem to miss people, many of my friends tell me that I may not initiate a text or even a meeting in a while until they do and I don't even notice that or feel empty because they are not around.

I'm trying to know if it's an ENTP thing, or some other issues to deal with?

Is everyone meant to find love in life?

When I see the desperate rush to find a partner, ranging from a genuine desire for companionship to people mass-DMing every woman they see, I genuinely begin to wonder. We live in an era flooded with useless information, especially from online couples bragging about their romantic lives or constantly redefining the 'bare minimum.' This constant exposure makes us crave the same experiences. We get so distracted that we forget their lives aren't a 'bouquet of flowers every day' or 'a trip every weekend.' Honestly, life would probably be incredibly boring if that was all it was about.

Love starts with that intense initial excitement (حماس البدايات). The idea of being in love and finding someone to spend your life with is captivating. But is that flame going to burn forever? Obviously not. So, what happens next?

Is being in love an ultimate life goal, or is it just a secondary side quest? Why is everyone trying to make romance the absolute center of their universe, and is that truly where it belongs?

When I watch TV shows, I am always drawn to the 'second chance' plots or storylines with a new lover. Two people can be together for years, get divorced, move on, and find love again. Even if nothing goes wrong, a partner might pass away, and it is completely normal to move on and find someone else if you can. Why is there this cultural obsession that we must end up with one person no matter what?

I hope my point is clear, it's not that love isn't good, but some people just don't find that ultimate uttopist love in their lives, they get different things in life, and some get it and then it doesn't last forever. But we all want the same narrative to all of us, don't we?

I am really interested in hearing your POVs on this. Does love actually deserve to be romanticized and glorified as much as it is today?

ENTPs, are you also so good at finding the most special names?

someone just pointed out that in a comment to someone else and I had a moment with myself.

I'm always known to be really good at picking the most random but special name for things. My account for example is named after a galaxy (Dragonfly44). I have other special names for other accounts across social media and people tell me that your name is EPIC.

Is it an ENTP thing?

Cross platform tool choice.

Hello everyone.

I graduated freshly from college, I don't have enough money and I am working towards creating my own app.

I'm aware that the app will be free for at least 1 year after the launch, to gain audience. So I know that I won't be making much money from it anytime soon and I'm looking to create an app effectively.

My background:
CS Grad, with focus on backend systems, never worked on a mobile app before. I'm currently using a linux operating system and it's where the development will happen.

I have some experience using Javascript. Nothing with Typescript.

The community I live in uses androids most of the time, so android is my top priority, but I still want it to be cross platform.

The product complexity:
It's supposed to handle demands from users and answers from suppliers, later it should also integrate payments, but I don't find the app is that complex in terms of features.

What do you recommend to use, between Flutter and React Native. And why?

From North Africa to FAANG: What's best to do?

Hello people, I'm a Software engineer graduated in 2025, currently unemployed but had some work experience.

Most of my friends went to study in Europe, I didn't for financial constraints mostly, and really want to know especially from recruiters,

is there any advantage in being in Europe/US at the moment of application? or applications are taken equally worldwide?

Or I can just apply where I come from (Algeria) and I could make it?

Is it best to get work experience or focus on DSA and is it still a thing with the new AI assisted coding interivew?

Thanks!
