Higher end alternatives to Watchdives EXD?

Higher end alternatives to Watchdives EXD?

After a few days with my Watchdives EXD 40mm black titanium, I’m a little embarrassed to admit how much I love this $100 watch.

Here’s my question - are there any higher end <$1K titanium dive watches out there in roughly the same dimensions (40mm bezel, 48mm lug-to-lug, 10.6mm thick), with the black finish? I have skinny wrists & have really struggled finding something that fit me just right.

Working on my next 30-day fitness tracker review

For those of you who read my 30-day review of the Panther Eclipse fitness tracker, this week I began evaluating the Amazfit Helio Strap Pro for my next 30-day review.

Who else has one & what are your initial thoughts? I have to say after ~48 hours with it, I’m pretty impressed.

Before choosing a fitness tracker you need to know your priorities

There are so many options out there. There’s a ton of information in this sub if you just start reading. However you need to have a few things in mind & know where your priorities are:

  1. Screen or no screen?

  2. Budget for the initial tracker purchase?

  3. Are you ok with a monthly subscription?

  4. Do you want it to look like a fitness tracker or do you prefer it to be as slim & minimalist as possible?

  5. Which stats are most important to you? (Sleep, workouts, heart rate, BP, steps, etc.). Each tracker will have certain things it tracks really well & certain things it does not do well, especially if you opt for one of the smaller profile trackers - you will most likely sacrifice some functionality for aesthetics.

  6. Do you want it to integrate with your native health app on your phone or are you ok with your data only being available in the app that comes with your tracker?

Once you answer these things, then you’ll have a better idea of what you are looking for in this sub. There are many good options out there, but none of them will be everything for everyone. I can tell you what I love, but my priorities may be different than yours.

Update to my 30-day Panther Eclipse review

After an additional 10 days with the Eclipse, I thought it was worth providing a few updates to my original 30-day review:

While my experience with Panther’s customer service through email was lacking a bit, I ended up reaching out to them through Facebook and whoever monitors that account has been incredibly responsive. I can only assume this is not the same person who handles their emails. I learned that the “mystery haptic vibrations” are health alerts for when any of my vitals exceed the minimum or maximum limits I set. While I’m relieved to know the haptics were a feature & not a flaw, I did tell them that without a push notification of some kind, I thought having my wrist buzz 15 times without a push notification was not incredibly helpful.

Also blood pressure monitoring is still a work in-progress, due to limitations in technology. It’s meant more as a baseline. Me personally, I don’t think it’s helpful when it always says my BP is high, even when I know it’s not. But I’ll give them a pass here since I feel like they are actively working to improve their product.

The newest app update added the ability to see your “health age” compared to your biological age. It also shows what percentile your vitals fall into & it gives you a 1-10 rating on the overall intensity of your workouts.

Still lacking are Apple Health integration / historical data, and the intensity of the haptic vibrations. But I still really like this device and I am still wearing mine. Panther is still a new company with a new product, so as long as I see them making continuous improvements to their product, I’m here for it!

Looking for a small plates restaurant

I recently went to Cafe Tu Tu Tango, in Orlando & loved it. They had a huge menu of mostly small shareable options across a wide range of cuisines. Also the ambiance was fun & eclectic.

I’m looking for something similar in the DFW area (prefer east side).

Best option I’ve found so far is Hawkers. Any other recommendations?

3D File Creation

What AI tool do you recommend for taking a detailed prompt from me & creating a .stl or similar 3D art file that I can print with my 3D printer?

I have been using ChatGPT but it is hit or miss. Sometimes it gets everything right & other times it’s a total mess & I just give up after 10-12 tries.

I posted this on my Facebook 2 years ago but thought it was fitting here

A few months ago I purchased the bottle on the left for around $4 (it was $3 a year ago). Today I went to Walmart & purchased (I thought) the exact same bottle for $9. I get home & realize it also has 2/3 the number of pills as before.

Price 1 year ago: $0.01/pill
New price: $0.045/pill

That is a 450% increase in price!

Pelagos 39 Backordered?

I went to my first AD yesterday, hoping to try on the Pelagos 39 & make sure it’s what I want. The sales associate told me the 39 is in high demand & is backordered, so they have a waitlist. But she said it could be months before one comes in & there are other people ahead of me. Is this common for the 39?

I wasn’t planning to buy yesterday, but I did assume for a common Tudor I’d be able to walk in & walk out with it the same day.

Panther Eclipse Review: My Honest 30-Day Experience

After wearing the Panther Eclipse 24/7 for 30 days, I wanted to share my experience for anyone considering purchasing one. To be clear, I am a real person and have received no compensation of any kind in exchange for this review.

I tracked battery life daily, compared health metrics against medical devices, tested it during workouts, sleep, hiking, yard work, and everyday use.

*What I Liked*

Design & Comfort
The Eclipse is one of the best-looking fitness trackers I've seen. It's slim, lightweight, low-profile, and doesn't scream "smartwatch" the way an Apple Watch does. The stainless design looks premium and the packaging and presentation were excellent.
I also appreciate that Panther uses standard 18mm watch bands instead of proprietary straps. That gives users a lot more flexibility when choosing alternative bands.

Battery Life
Battery life was outstanding.
My first charge cycle lasted approximately 14.5 days, and my second charge cycle lasted almost 14 days. Coming from an Apple Watch that required charging every 1-3 days, this was one of my favorite aspects of the device.
For people who dislike daily charging, this alone is a major selling point.

Activity Tracking
Step counting, distance tracking, and general activity monitoring were surprisingly good.
I tested the Eclipse during workouts and on a 6-mile hike, and the distance tracking and pedometer appeared very accurate. For basic fitness tracking, it performed well.

Simple App Experience
One of the reasons I was interested in the Eclipse was because I didn't want information overload.
The app is straightforward, easy to navigate, and focuses on the basics:
• Sleep tracking
• Heart rate monitoring
• Activity tracking
• Workouts
• Basic health metrics
If you're looking for simplicity rather than endless charts and menus, you'll probably appreciate Panther's approach.

*Areas That Need Improvement*

Blood Pressure Accuracy
This was my biggest complaint throughout the review period.
I repeatedly compared Panther's blood pressure readings against:
• Multiple home blood pressure cuff readings
• Doctor's office measurements
In almost every comparison, the Panther consistently reported elevated blood pressure when my actual readings were normal.
Heart rate measurements were generally close to my off-device readings, but blood pressure was often significantly off.
If Panther is going to advertise blood pressure monitoring, accuracy needs to improve substantially.

Haptic Notifications
The vibration motor is simply too weak.
Compared to an Apple Watch:
Apple Watch: 10/10
Panther Eclipse: 4/10
I frequently missed text notifications because I couldn't feel the vibration. I'd love to see adjustable vibration intensity added through a future firmware update.

Sleep Tracking Consistency
Sleep tracking improved over the course of the month, likely due to app and firmware updates, but it wasn't consistently accurate during my testing.
Early on, I experienced:
• Sleep scores that didn't match how rested I felt
• Delayed sleep data updates
• Missed sleep periods
• Incorrect sleep start times
By the end of the review, sleep tracking appeared noticeably better and more representative of reality, so this may already be improving through software updates.

App Features & Data Access
The app is intentionally simple, but there are some features I'd still like to see:
• Historical data beyond the current month
• Data export options
• Faster syncing when opening the app
• Better Apple Health integration
• Automatic weight syncing from Apple Health
These aren't deal breakers, but they would significantly improve the user experience.

Bugs & Reliability
Throughout the month I encountered several issues:
• Random unexplained haptic alerts
• Occasional sync delays
• One temporary battery reporting error
• Apple Health sync interruptions
The good news is Panther released multiple app updates and a firmware update during my review period. Several of the issues either improved or disappeared entirely before the end of the test.
While some bugs remain, it's clear the company is actively developing the platform.

Customer Support
My experience with support was mixed.
My first email received a fast response. However, follow-up emails regarding unresolved issues never received a reply.
For a device in this price range, I would like to see more consistent customer support.

Final Verdict
The Panther Eclipse succeeds at what originally attracted me to it:
✔ Excellent battery life
✔ Attractive minimalist design
✔ Accurate activity tracking
✔ Simple, easy-to-use app
✔ No subscription fees
However, there are still some areas that need refinement:
✘ Blood pressure monitoring accuracy
✘ Weak haptic notifications
✘ Limited historical data access
✘ Occasional software bugs
✘ Inconsistent customer support
Overall, I think the Panther Eclipse shows a lot of promise. The hardware is attractive, battery life is genuinely impressive, and Panther appears committed to improving the platform through updates.

If your priorities are long battery life, basic health tracking, and a minimalist design, it's worth considering. If highly accurate health metrics and smartwatch-level notifications are your top priorities, you may want to wait and see how the platform matures over the next several updates.

My overall rating after 30 days: 7.5/10.

Cardata Mileage Tracking Program

I am a 100% remote sales rep. When I was hired by my company part of my offer was that I receive a $500/month car allowance + taxable reimbursement of gas receipts for both business & personal use of my vehicle.

My company is now announcing that we will be replacing that policy with a new mileage reimbursement program through Cardata. This is being presented to us as a beneficial change, but it seems highly suspect to me. Is anyone familiar with this program?

For reference, I drive a very nice 10 year old paid off vehicle.
