Flam Drum Technique - Crash Course & Artistic Choices

Here is something to help both beginners and intermediate players. This lesson not only covers basics in drum flams, but also how to diverge from the hard rules that are usually conveyed in flam lessons.

Evans EQ4 vs DW kick drum head

Thought this might help newer DW Drum owners who want to replace their stock bass drum batter heads.

Just saw The First Shadow

Curtains just closed 15 minutes ago as I write this. I thought they did a great job with it (mind you I've seen very few Broadway plays). But I felt they did really well on showing Henry's "decent", and that his back story in ST5 makes more sense now. If I were to visit NYC again, might consider another showing, though hopefully they do make a movie version of this.

Choosing a snare mic isn't just about the microphone. The shell matters too. Purpleheart, maple, and metal brass all respond differently to the same mic. Here's some sound samples that pairs 4 mic with 3 snare shells. Hope this helps!

I have a computer with a 2.5" SATA SSD (Samsung 870 EVO). This is a data drive (no OS installed on it). The machine is running Windows 11.

After a power outage yesterday, windows was extremely slow to boot (if it would boot). I tracked down that in Task Manager, the D drive is showing at 100% at all times.

I've since switched to tying to connect the drive via an external SATA to USB3 connector. But even in Safe mode, once the drive is connected multiple things will freeze up. Disk Management won't refresh showing the new drive, Explorer freezes up if I try to click on the drive letter. In command prompt, if I tell it to "cd d:" it just sits on the next line and doesn't output anything.

I'm assuming the drive is failing. My question is, how can I go about recovering the data on this drive?

Based on other events, plus material the shows references, I think Mike could have used El's powers. There are three pieces to this:

* El's and Henry's power source

* Will's connection to Henry

* Parallels the show sets up between El and Jean Grey from the X-Men

The first two are well known in the show.  El and Henry's powers are very similar. They have the same sorts of abilities, and El's power in part derives from Henry's blood. Henry is even able to "steal" El's gate opening power. They have the same limitations (can overexert themselves, bleed from the nose when using their powers). They both go into a trance like state when using the void.

Will shared some psychic connection either directly back to Henry or through The Mind Flayer, and was able to use Henry's power this way. But what's more, he was able to "sense" Henry though this connection.

We also see that Mike is able to "sense" El (which I’m assuming to be a telepathic link similar to Will). Mike can sense El in the void in season 2, and in the police car in season 4. And in Season 3, it's directly mentioned by Max. This isn't surprising to me, as El is referenced as being similar to Jean Grey of the X-Men.

* In the very first episode of Stranger Things, Will wins a bike race against Dustin and lays claim to a specific comic. This issue is where Jean Grey is under possession by the Phoenix, and I believe the Hellfire club is referenced in that comic. And of course the show references the Hellfire club again in Season 4.

* Jean and El both have telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

* In the X-Men, Jean and Scott Summers (Cyclops) share a "telepathic link".

So based on all of the above:

* that Will, a non-powered person, could use the powers of another through a psychic link

* that El and Henry's powers are similar

* that El and Mike share some "connection"

I think Mike could have used El’s powers. What do you think? Am I way off-base? Or are people going to have to re-write their fanfics? :)

p.s. El could have taken Kali's mind when she was dying (absorbing her memories and her "abilities"), just like how Henry took the minds of the other kids from the lab.
