Esphome and CYD with single USB C corners swapped

I struggled with this for hours yesterday. Tried swapping XY, tried mirroring. I could never get the corners to align properly. I had Claude make me a grid of 10x10 rectangles where each one would be colorized as tapped. Tapping the bottom right corner and the upper left corner filled them properly. When I tapped the lower left corner, the upper right corner would colorize.

This also helped me find a dead spot. So at least I'm going to return it for that.

Anybody seen this before?

Part of a Rolls Royce just rolled through my shop

It's not every day that you see a big chunk of a BR715 on a pallet. Actually. I see this every day where I work!

In defense of HC-SR04 sensors

Most discussions around presence or occupancy mention PIR, but then herald mmWave as the best way. But I'd like to defend the HC-SR04 sensor for a specific application.

My desk/workbench has a lot of activity around it. Heavy traffic area, much loitering. The center 6' of this 18' area is where I do detailed work that needs plenty of light. When I am seated at this center section, the HC-SR04 that is mounted under my desk sees when I am seated at that area. It is installed about 2 feet from the edge of the desk. The automation is set so the lights turn on when it sees a return at around 3 feet, then off when more than 4 feet for more than 30 seconds. Any traffic or loitering in this area would keep the work bench lighting on with PIR or mmWave.

This has worked perfectly for this area, it rarely turns on from the traffic or loitering, as I have to be seated or standing in the area where I would be if working. Since I use a wheeled stool when working there, the stool is not seen by the sensor because of the height.

Is there an easy bandaid for the Wyze issue?

I've read several of the Github threads and it seems there are a few fixes, but most seem like they would not apply to my simple Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi setup. I don't even know what a docker container is and I'm not running this on a vm.

Is there a temporary easy fix for the Wyze issue?

How many ESP32s have you killed?

I have 36 in my fleet, though 7 are currently unemployed. Only one has been killed, a simple jumper error on a breadboard.

Curious how many you guys have killed and what happened? And blue smoke bombs?

Smart outlets with inching option less than a minute

I am working on something for someone who has no real smart home experience or hardware. We need a smart outlet that has an "inching" setting where the outlet can revert to off a second or two after being turned on.

The end goal is that this outlet will be energized using a smart phone. The outlet powers a relay. The relay is wired to a gate remote. We need the outlet to power off after a second or two.

What are some outlets that we should consider?

Odd behavior when using an ESP32-C3 on a breadboard

Additional info: when I use a single jumper wire to connect GPIO21, 20, or 8 to an empty breadboard, the log freezes.

Removing the wire causes the log to catch up on everything that didn't post in the log.

ESP32 C3 goes dormant when mounted on breadboard

On two different ESP32 C3 SuperMinis, the log is pausing when I mount the side that has GPIO5-21 into the breadboard. When I pull it off the breadboard, the log continues. The log shows 'Uptime' which continues to increment during the pause. Yes, the ESP32 is straddling the channel down the breadboard. The ESP was mounted at Uptime 467, i waited a little while, then pulled it off. That is where the green log text is.

With Tile going with rolling MAC addresses, my Bermuda is losing its functionality

What trackers are still using static MAC addresses and also have a reliable way to find them outside of the HA ecosystem?

After hoarding ESP32s of all varieties, I have a few spares

Rookie mistakes were made. I got addicted to ESPHome devices early in my Home Assistant implementation. I started making a bunch of single purpose devices. Thermometers, Bermuda trackers, LED strips, security sensors, etc. I even have some on my HVAC filter doors to track filter changes and on dog food buckets to track feedings and supply levels.

Now I've consolidated a bunch of them and have a collection of perfectly capable but unemployed ESP32s. I don't want to post the typical "what should I make next" but I am bored and I'm not sure what to do with my hands.

Get BT mac address of new tracker

I need to get the mac address of two new trackers, for fine tuned location tracking in Home Assistant. I have a BLE scanner app on my phone, but it isn't picking up the new devices, even when they are inches from my phone. The app does see other devices in the room. Just not the new ones.

How do I get the mac address of the new devices?

How do you keep up with what devices are where and what they are doing?

I found myself accidentally overwriting two devices that had similar names so I added a numbered sticker to each device and added an entity to show it in HA. What are you guys doing to keep up with the fleet?

Auto start stop eliminator

I refuse to pay 50 bucks for something that has less than five star reviews, when I can build it at home. The output of this relay gets wired parallel to the mechanical push button on the dashboard that cancels my auto start stop function. Bonus part is the ds18b20 sensor that will monitor my temperature while my car is warming up in the driveway during winter months. This temperature controls LED lights in my living room and den that indicate the car's temperature while it is running.

'23 Forester and AAWireless

I just got a 23 Subaru Forester and I'm using an AAWireless device. I keep noticing notifications on my phone that Android auto wireless is connecting. Why is the USB port that it is connected to being powered occasionally while the car is parked?

Could this be related to my subscription to mySubaru?

Home Assistant and Subaru integration

I just got a 23 Forester Sport and signed up for the StarLink, it was only $50/year. Really like the remote start and location stuff. Odd that there is an entity for each tire's pressure, but not a "running" or "not running" state entity or anything about climate control or cabin temperatures.

Anyone here using this integration in Home Assistant?
