Does anyone primarily use Melitta brewers for their Pour Over?

It seems the online coffee community, particularly the influencers, are obsessed with V60, with occasional mentions of other brewers.

However, to my understanding the filter coffee method was invented by Melitta Bentz in 1908. In the decades after, her company ultimately refined the design to this.

This is the only brewer I actually see at stores. They have it at grocery stores, walmart, target. They only sell Melitta filters. I had to order my V60 online to get one.

But when I search about it, there is remarkably little content or discussions compared to any other brewer.

So why is that? Does anyone here use it? Or do Coffee Aficionados simply not like it? Is it just a gateway pour over brewer of limited potential?

DIY Drip Assist

I’ve been looking into drip assists. Particularly because I make almost exclusively decaf and require less agitation.

I found this to deliver pretty good results.

I just put some tea tongs and the Aeropress filter on top of the V60.

Just gotta make sure you zero out your scale after adding them on top.

Has anyone seen this false cut before?

I came up with this false cut as a kid. Basically the start of a swing cut combined with the end of an overhand cut. Because I wanted a false cut that I could do standing that didn’t look fancy.

And I still use it.

I can’t imagine I’m the only person to have ever come up with this. Yet I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.

Has anyone ever seen this or done the same thing?

What is the difference between the expensive and inexpensive kettles?

On the coffee side of youtube, I see a lot of electric kettles that are fairly expensive, or at least over $100.

And they look pretty similar to my kettle. It is a black, all-metal, temperature controlled, gooseneck kettle. It says "Aicook", which I would guess is one of those fake brands that just sell stock products from chinese manufacturers.

I got it for $35

I've had it for 6 years and I use it about 4 times a day. Still looks and functions like new. It heats water up quickly.

So I'm not asking out of any interest in upgrading, but more out of curiosity.

This thing was $35 and the popular Fellow Kettle is on amazon for $200 right now.

For such a simple task, is there really anything a $200 kettle can do better?

How do you feel about really obvious shaders on indie games?

I’m noticing a lot of indie devs are using shaders to heavily stylize their games.

Some famous examples would be the posterization on Buckshot Roulette or the CRT effect on Balatro.

You also see a lot of 3d indie games using some effects to go for a PlayStation 1 look.

And lately I see many indie devs posting their works in progress and they are covered in similar shaders.

How do you feel about that approach as a game dev, but also as a player?

It’s difficult to get my dog to eat in general. She is not food motivated. But for the next week she will be with a dog that eats all the food he can get.

She’s always been difficult about food.

Let me preface a few things.

  1. It doesn’t matter what the food is. Kibble, wet food, freeze dried, farmers dog, or even fresh cooked chicken. Even peanut butter or treats. It makes zero difference, her behavior is the same.
  2. She’s always been this way and no vet has found any health issue to make her like this.

Rather She had some sort of abuse in the past and It’s a psychological problem.

So the issue seems to be a combination of pickiness and comfort level. Food itself is a trigger for her.

she has to be comfortable, but not excited and distracted, and if she is not in the exact perfect mood but close, then food that is enticing enough can help overcome the difference. If she’s not close, she will refuse all food.

But also if I spoil her with special food, she gets bored of it after 2 meals and needs something more enticing to overcome nerves or distractions.

Or she just needs to be in that perfect mood and she’ll eat anything. Basically relaxed, bored, ignored (I can’t be too close or watching her), and hungry.

The tactic of giving her 10-15 minutes to eat and removing the food whether she eats or not doesn’t work. It stresses her out and she’ll refuse all food. Even fresh chicken or bacon. I tried it and after a few days, I just couldn’t get her to eat anything because food became a trigger. She continued to refuse all food for 6 days straight, even with a lot of exercise.

So my best solution is I give her dry food with wet food mixed in and leave it out for a couple hours. Most of the time she will become comfortable and go eat it.

This works at home.

Now she is going to spend a week with another dog that I’m sitting.

She is so happy about this. They get along great and all she wants to do is play.

But he will eat all the food he can get. He’ll happily take anything she doesn’t eat, but he’s already overweight.

I don’t want her to go a week without eating again.

She’s already skipped a meal. I had to lock her in a different room with food so he won’t get it. But her only concern is getting out to play with the other dog.

I leave her in there for an hour and she just sleeps by the door and doesn’t touch the food.

I try hand feeding her and she waits till I look away to spit it all out. Even though it is food that she likes under different circumstances.

Ultimately I gave up and let her out of the room and threw out the food. She’s now happily running around and playing.

Idk what I’m going to do for the rest of the week.
I’m alone watching both these dogs.

I was having trouble getting this game to run. I googled it and found others had the same issues. Slay the Spire 2 as well.

But eventually I figured it out. I do not own the second game, so Idk if this works but someone can try it with that one as well.

Basically the problem is that a fresh install of the game does not run in full screen and for whatever reason this makes it crash on GameNative.

  1. Instead of running the game, open the container.
  2. Navigate to the exe file for the game and run it. It may take a minute to start up and just show a black window for a bit. Eventually, it starts up.
  3. When you get to the menu, go to settings and check the box for full screen. It says you will need to restart the game for this change to take effect.
  4. Close the game, close the container. Then hit run, and it may sit on a black screen for a minute, but it eventually starts up and runs great.

I've bought skyrim a few times before, but never on Steam. And I don't want to purchase it again just for my Odin 2 portal (pro 12gb) unless I know it works in Gamenative or Gamehub.

Has anyone had it running well on the Odin 2 portal? If so, how?

Ps3 / Ps4 / Switch Emulation?
Winlator / Gamehub / Game native?

I recently got Oblivion running on the Odin 2 Portal. It's great, but not perfect.
And I don't know if that's because Oblivion is pushing the Odin to the brink, or if it's just such old software that modern windows emulators aren't as optimized for it.

So I wonder how Skyrim would run.

It's impressive to me anytime someone finds a new gameloop that is so simple, it could have worked on an Atari 2600, yet no one had done it yet. Flappy Bird would be an example of that.

Sometimes I see games that are such brilliantly simple ideas that I could make, as a beginner game dev, had I thought of them.
