nullband
NULLBAND is a live, anonymous, networked sound work. Anyone in the world can transmit sound into it, with no name and no account, and on a desktop up to eight live signals are blended into a single continuous stream for anyone to hear.
Every signal is then returned to the world over a series of progressively eroded generations through fidelity loss, reverb and compression, until the final generation is little more than noise. Then it is deleted. No recordings are kept. One signal behaves differently: a reflection, when it qualifies it returns at once, reversed and half-decayed. Attention alters what survives.
The result is a constantly shifting field of anonymous sound, made by everyone and no one, that remembers imperfectly and ultimately forgets. NULLBAND is a meditation on memory, anonymity, and impermanence. In an age when almost everything is recorded and kept, a system built to let go.
CELLSEQ
CELLSEQ is a data driven MIDI sequencer based on Microsoft Excel.
A bang cursor traverses any CSV or Excel file as a grid. Numbers fire MIDI notes and advance the cursor by their value. Letters execute operators that redirect, spawn, modify or destroy bangs. Empty cells are freeways. The pitch is folded into a selected key and scale. Velocity maps to column position. Note duration maps to distance travelled since the last note.
The app sends MIDI via IAC Driver, syncs transport and BPM to Ableton via Carabiner and Ableton Link, supports up to 8 simultaneous MIDI channels mapped to column bands, and includes live cell editing, copy/paste, and a full operator reference panel.
The operator alphabet covers 26 letters and 9 symbols, direction changes, spawning, value modification, grid mutation, timing control, and teleportation. Loop detection prevents bangs from stalling. The system is dataset agnostic any structured data with numeric columns produces a unique melodic and rhythmic output.
Always LIVE
If you want to broadcast a live session anonymously, nullband is worth knowing about.
It’s an anonymous broadcast platform built on Icecast. Signals appear on an SDR-style waterfall display when you transmit and fade when you stop. No accounts, no names. Multiple people can broadcast simultaneously and listeners on desktop can blend up to 8 signals at once in 3D headphone space using HRTF spatial audio.
Qualifying transmissions return later, processed and degraded, cycling through generations until the signal is gone.
Desktop via BUTT, iOS via iziCast. Free token at nullband.org/transmit, no account required.
Drone day platform
Drone Day is May 30. If you want to broadcast your session anonymously, as usual nullband will be open all day.

Going to seed drone transmissions in the days leading up to it so the ghost chain is already running deep by the time May 30 arrives.
Desktop via BUTT, iOS via iziCast. Free token at nullband.org/transmit and you’re live in minutes.
There will also be a simulcast YouTube live window 10.00 AM UTC
Vocal double or pitch fx ?
In Conversations it sounds like a +12 octave effect on his vocal or is just a double he has done and octave above ?
nullband - LIVE
nullband is an anonymous transmission platform. there are no profiles, no names.
signals appear on the waterfall for the duration of a transmission and fade when it ends.
the waterfall display shows active transmissions as vertical signals on a frequency spectrum. each band of colour represents a transmission from somewhere in the world.

Looking at using MeshCore to log telemetry data to CSV for a generative music project. Packet metadata like RSSI, SNR, hop count, GPS, temperature, light gets fed into a sequencer as a live data source.
Is there a Python SDK or API for MeshCore equivalent to Meshtastic’s Python library? And how does the depth of accessible telemetry data compare?
Trying to work out if MeshCore exposes the same fields or more before committing to a device.
I make generative music and I’m looking at using incoming packet metadata (RSSI, SNR, hop count, battery etc) as a live data source feeding a midi sequencer.
Possible ??
The anonymity and ephemerality of the protocol is what got me interested in the first place.
Just getting into the hardware, looking at the Heltec V4 to start.
Anyone else using Meshtastic in a musical or generative art context? Curious what people have tried.
Built a sequencer that plays spreadsheets as MIDI.
I call it CELLSEQ.
Drop any CSV onto a grid.
The data becomes the sequence. Numbers fire notes and jump forward by their value. Letters redirect the cursor. Empty cells are freeways.
No programming. No manual sequencing.
The dataset has a melody already, this just reveals it.
Been running Kaggle datasets, work data, sleep/stress surveys through it. Each one sounds completely different.
Sent a few sessions live last night at https://nullband.org/
Happy to explain how it works if anyone’s interested.
Still a WIP and I may make it available one day.
