I had a good time with this one. It feels a bit unfair to compare it to Revenge of Shinobi or Shinobi III, though, since they’re doing different things.

I will say that the last two rooms in the gauntlet and the final boss were brutal — maybe the toughest challenge I’ve faced in a Shinobi game, which was a surprise because everything else here was relatively easy.

On the one hand, the final boss really forced me to learn the mechanics and play right, and I could see what the game was doing and appreciate that. On the other hand, God, it was so hard.

Nazism is mainstream

Hanging out with my high school best friend for the first time in a while, and he just casually drops that he wants to move to Poland because there’s “no migrants there.”

Later on, when he’s scrolling on TikTok, I overhear it. It’s just blatant, inbred-style racism against Indians, black people, and so forth. Then he starts trying to quiz me — a white guy dating a girl who isn’t white, by the way — on whether some cultures just aren’t compatible.

And on and on. Not everything can be anti-Semitism. Maybe Jews do run the world; why’s it so bad to say that? Watch any video of a white girl walking in India and see how safe it is there. Nick Fuentes might be edgy, but he makes good points.

The whole world just feels like some funhouse mirror version of the one pre-COVID where everything is dark and hopeless, and even people I know and care about have changed.

It’s not my favorite Sonic, but for some reason it’s the one I always come back to

Shinobi III: Beaten!

Always got stuck on the last boss. Watched a YouTube video and learned you can block. 🤦‍♂️

Of all the Genesis Shinobi games and Art of Vengeance, this is the easiest by a pretty good gap, I feel like. It’s hard to say whether I prefer this or Rrevenge of Shinobi.

Art of Vengeance was cool but pretty different from these. I prefer the linear, tough, repeat-it-till-you-know-it gameplay.

Played through Streets of Rage 2 for the first time in a while tonight. Last two levels are still pretty tough.

I’ve been playing Streets of Rage 4 a lot over the last few months, but the learning curve is definitely a lot steeper, so I went back to basics and played 2 tonight. Managed to get to the end credits on normal difficulty by the skin of my teeth. Maybe I’ll finally play through the original next.

Before even seeing me, fertility specialist wants me to get off TRT

I’ve been on TRT for about two years because I had the levels of a 90-year-old. My tests came back with 100 total or something, then 250.

I’m 28.

Anyways, I started thinking more recently about how I at least want the option to have kids one day, and so I asked an urology clinic to set me up with a fertility specialist. My hope was to figure out a plan, come off as briefly as I needed to (if I needed to), and just freeze a ton of sperm so I’d have that as a backup plan at least.

Immediately, the doctor who made the referral to the specialist commented that “he’s going to want you to come off TRT.” I thought that was odd because I know some guys have had success just taking HCG or some other regimen while on TRT, and I at least thought he would want to run some tests or something. But I figured I’d wait until I saw him.

It turns out he does \*not\* want to wait until then, because today, one of his nurses messaged me and said he wants me to come off T now.

Honestly, this made me angry because I get the sense this guy is someone who sees a younger guy and assumes he’s just juicing. But I take the prescribed amount and my health, mental health, and everything else has only improved. It’s a night and day difference. My life is so much better now.

Should I just cancel and find a different doctor, or am I out of touch with how this goes?

I’m willing to come off TRT, to be clear. But this felt a little preemptive to me.

I long to be good at DoDonPachi on the Saturn

But I’m not. The shmup gods will not smile upon me.

I managed to 1CC Batsugun with enough practice, and that felt like a reasonable challenge. But I hit a wall in DoDonPachi consistently by the fifth stage. And, in most games, I’ll probably shave off a life or two with some dumb mistake before getting to that point.

Even if I get past Level 5 without trouble eventually, Level 6 will just clobber me all over again, I’m sure.

(This is with me using bombs and the laser, of course.)

I put the game down for a month or so because I had stuff going on, and I can tell I’ve lost a lot of the progress I made over the course of two or three months. I almost wonder if it’s time to just bail, but I really do want to beat this so I can feel good about it before trying a different Saturn shmup.
