Why is it so easy in my head and hard in reality?

I mentally map out what items I would want to keep, so I'm in my living room and thinking I should keep some basic stationery like scissors, tape etc. batteries, a few board games, my knitting and sewing supplies (which I've already decluttered and don't have a stash of stuff, I find a pattern then buy the materials and do it, but I have knitting needles and some other basic supplies) I've got a small selection of books on a shelf that I want to keep. So I decide to get rid of everything else that doesn't fit into what I've decided to keep. But then I go through my stuff and find spare screen protectors for my current phone, spare chargers and wires, handheld fans, cooling pads, kids craft items and I end up feeling like I should keep them. Does anyone else experience this?

30 days without sugary drinks, next step sugar free!! No more napping everyday

My issue was mostly sugar in my coffee, I had a LOT and I drank decaf so I drank multiple cups all throughout the day. I haven't lost as much weight as I hoped I would, but weight loss wasn't my main goal and I haven't cut sugar out entirely yet, but I have eaten less sugary foods too. I've stopped napping in the day! I couldn't go a single day without napping despite sleeping for 7 hours at night. My skin feels softer. I'm eating more food in the day time instead of surviving off coffee and then over eating in the evenings. I'm going to cut out all refined sugar very soon but before I do that I want to better assess what changes I need to make, for example sweet chilli sauce is sugary and I want to make sure I have an alternative before I just ditch it. I don't want to just switch to sugar free processed alternatives for everything that I consume that contains sugar but I'm also not going to be too tough on myself and not included anything like that.

How do I prevent this?

How do I prevent my nails from doing this? They seem to grow well for a bit and then start peeling and breaking

Anyone used essential oils or similar to improve appetite? It's for my 19 year old Son

Obviously, I don't want to give my son a complex or try to force him to gain weight. But I am worried about his weight. He is 6ft with a 25inch waist, maybe even slightly smaller. What can I do? I know he is self conscious about his weight and wants to gain weight but I don't want to just send him screen shots of advice etc due to not wanting to give him a complex or anything like that, I hope that makes sense. Or should I just let him deal with it? My other son is type 1 diabetic and I'm worried if he also becomes diabetic, he hasn't got any extra weight to lose!

He does tend to eat whatever I make for dinner and it's usually a fairly decent meal. Outside of meals he tends to eat biscuits, noodles or crisps (cookies, ramen and chips if you're not British) I've said he could add an egg or chicken to his noodles for some protein, but so far he hasn't done so.

So I'm looking for dinner ideas, things to buy to keep in the cupboards for when he makes his own food, and any other ideas. I've heard some essential oils can improve appetite, I did usr one years ago for myself and it was something obscure but when I look into it now I only see things like ginger or peppermint recommended and I'm not sure they'd have the desired impact. Had anyone tried essential oils? Or something else beyond the basic advice?

We also recently got a pet dog and my Son is going to help with walking her, I hope that will increase his appetite a bit.

Do they not pay until the end of August anymore?

I got a message saying my Sons UC element will stop 1st of August, but I thought they paid to the end of August for courses ending in the summer?

Libre link up shows no data

My son has been on libre for a couple of weeks and I've only seen data on the linkup app twice in that whole time. Internet is fine on both my phone and my son's pdm and phone. He was in hospital with high ketones last week so it's really stressing me out that I can't see his numbers. is this a common issue?

Dinner plates are making you fat

Dinner plates used to have a fairly thick rim and the bit where you food goes was about the size of a side plate, but with some room for your food to overspill a little onto the edges. Today's plates barely have much of an edge and I think they've been doing this to sell us more food, which we eat because we want to at least mostly clear our plates. Putting a small portion on a big plate often feels wrong and I think a lot of us consciously or unconsciously use the plate as a guide to how much food to serve.

The 'money burning a hole in your pocket' issue

I don't feel like I have it in me to have money in the bank and not spend it on stuff I don't need. Whether that's a second hand book I've wanted to read, and easy dinner or takeaway, or something that's been on my wish list for a while, which usually are things with a purpose like I'm lacking space in my bathroom for products and at some point I'd like to get better storage in there. I'm putting myself on a no buy challenge. I'm going to search Freecycle and similar places for these things during the challenge, but often if I don't find something quickly I will buy it second hand or new, but cheap quality. I'm not in massive debt by any means but I did get some carpets fitted on credit, and have a couple of bills I'm a little bit behind on. Has everyone gone straight to saving or would paying my bills faster be ok to do while I get used to not impulsively buying stuff. I'd really like to have a some savings/emergency fund but I really don't feel I would succeed at this just yet.

Has anyone else had these issues or has everyone just dealt with feeling comfortable with leaving money in the bank? I've also tried second bank accounts and stuffing cash away, but every time I dip into it and then it's gone.

How are you supposed to stand when weighing yourself?

I've noticed that when I weigh myself if I'm looking down at the scales I weigh a few lbs more than if I stand up straight, wait for the numbers to set and then look. But there have been times I've weighed myself a couple of times in a row and got different numbers, so I wonder if it's just random or if looking down somehow does create more pressure(?) and therefore adds weight. Has anyone else noticed this?

It thinks we are trying to reuse the sensor but we aren'

We did put on a new sensor but most of the sensors we have seem to have the same code. His sensor was due to run out this evening, it was saying his blood sugar was 2.2 but in reality it was 17 (UK numbers) so we decided to change the sensor. Yes it's 9117, we often have issues with this code. Why can't dexcom realise that they need more code variations if it's not going to let us use the same code. We've not had readings for over 4 hours now. My son is 17 years old and always tries to avoid finger pricks and he doesn't want to change the sensor again (partly because he will only wear them on his arms and doesn't want to put one on the same spot he's just put one on)

I'm just here to rant about dexcoms lack of variation in codes.

EDIT to add it's now been 14 hours, I cleared the cache on the app, we went to bed and therefore waited a few hours to try again. I used a different code from a different sensor. it still keeps saying we cannot re use the sensor. I'm going to ring dexcom

r/macrobiotics

I have attempted to join this sub and contact the mod team but the attempts go unanswered. Despite weekly traffic to the site there have not been any posts in 3 years and it appears that the mod has deleted their account, but I can't be sure of that. I would like to mod this group to revive it because I love the macrobiotic lifestyle and diet and there aren't many forums or groups online for this. Thank you

How to be an anarchist? I'm really upset with the world and I am looking for advice on what to do with these feelings

I have to confess that I have spent a lot of my life having big ideas and beliefs but ignoring them to go along with the crowd. I recently had therapy and I have been working on being true to myself, which has brought me to this group, amongst other things.

I've started trying to learn more about anarchism and the amount of things I've read/heard and realised that's exactly what I've been thinking but worded/explained much better than I could have.

Today I not only feel upset at the state of the world we currently live in, I feel upset that I haven't been living true to my beliefs. But I feel lost. Anarchy feels like just an idea/belief but I know there is more to it and there are things I can do or not do to live more in alignment with these ideas.

So what things can I do? Is there a way to be an anarchist that isn't just agreeing with the philosophy? I'd also love to hear book/video suggestions but ultimately looking at ways I can take action.

Edit to add: since posting this I have asked to join a local community garden who also have other projects going on to support the community. I'm going to start knitting for charity and I have already deleted my social media accounts. I'm going to look more at what I can do for my local community like litter picking. I am working on being more mindful about where I spend money and trying to make more ethical choices.
