Anbernic RG SP Pearl Pink + MustardOS Test Build! 🌸

really tried to like the stock OS, after an hour of unplayable slowdowns with final burn neo & amiga cd32 it's time to move. Going back to my fav on 40xx-v & 34xx - which is - muOS. 'Andromeda' build is still in the works, but it's beautiful, here's a short sneak preview

RG DS Stock Linux - manually replacing Retroarch Cores (AMIGA)

If you're running Stock Linux on the RG DS, you probably noticed the default PUAE Amiga core struggles and stutters (esp with CD32 games. The lighter PUAE 2021 core isn't available through RetroArch's internal updater, but you can swap it manually in under 5 minutes without touching any config files or adding .info templates.

Here is the quick fix:

1. Grab the Core

2. Put it on your SD Card

  • Drop the renamed puae_libretro.so file onto root of your TF/SD card (or anywhere u like)

3. Replace via File Manager

  • Boot up your RG DS and go to Applications -> File Manager.
  • Left pane: Navigate to your SD card (/mnt/mmc/) where you put the new file.
  • Right pane: Navigate to the system core directory at /mnt/vendor/deep/retro/cores/.
  • Highlight your new puae_libretro.so file, press X, and overwrite this file.

That’s it! Because we kept the original filename, stock launcher paths remain untouched, no need to change core associations or reload info files in RetroArch (since RetroArch views this as a fresh core instance, you'll just need to re-configure any per-game options or re-save your states.)

RG DS Stock Linux Setup Guide • Fixes • PortMaster • Easy Life! 💖

howdy, just made a guide video on the anbernic rg ds running stock linux

  1. stock linux is nowhere near as good as gamma nano or rocknix but its simplicity makes it rather pleasant to use. Forget any updates just set and play. Pretty stable pleasant experience
  2. included a few fixes with regards to powering off the console if you came from rocknix or gamma. This vid shows how to fix it.
  3. Want to try a few portmaster titles on stock? i've managed to fix the scripts to make a few titles work

I thought it would just collect dust...

still having a blast with the stock Linux OS. sure it'll never be as feature packed as Gamma Nano & Rocknix but I honestly love the simplicity of it. Been super relaxing to just pick up nd play lately. I originally planned to skip rgds entirely but the darn thing ended up getting way more playtime than expected 😄

RG DS GammaOS NANO quick preview

just installed, just learning. So far it's great! DS games - shader + hi-res 3d is applied automatically. Azahar may be installed to test if any 3ds title may run (they will barely run but let's see).

want to install GammaOS Nano v1.4 but your RG DS won't boot or turn off after using Rocknix? quick battery reset fix

Here is a quick walkthrough showing how to safely open the RG DS shell using a small allen key to disconnect and reconnect the battery for a hard reset when your handheld won't boot or shut down properly

if you have ever tried rocknix it can sometimes confuse the power management system when you try to switch to a different OS. So if you're dealing with boot issues or the power bug, disconnecting nd reconnecting the battery will often fix the device

flipping through MS-DOS era, few bitmap books from my shelf

i’ve always been fascinated with sci-fi gaming art, influenced by ’70s and ’80s. Pieces with mystery loneliness themes (Another World). Detailed an yet it always left massive gap of wonder. gave you enough detail to spark your brain. back in the day I spent just as much time staring at magazine artwork/ box covers totally zooming out imagining what it would actually feel like being there

these books hold a pretty intimate place on my shelf for that exact reason. And if this whole post sounds like ad for them... well lets just say my midlife crisis hit me

music theme: https://youtu.be/nu8RmFoAe_4?t=859

books on photos:

The Art Of The Box

I’m Too Young To Die: The Ultimate Guide to First-Person Shooters 1992–2002

The Art of Point-and-Click Adventure Games

The GBA Pixel Book

PC Engine: The Box Art Collection

Portmaster on RG DS Stock Linux

getting these ports running on the Stock Linux OS takes a bit of tinkering with the .sh launch scripts, but it works surprisingly well. Will create a mega link with just .sh files & tutorial. Let me know which titles you would like to play (that RG DS may handle)

Linux is the way to play Anbernic RG DS!

RG DS - ditch the clunky stock Android for Anbernic's official Linux build, but, make sure to skip the final optional mod to avoid power shutdown bug! 🔥

406V tried latest stock v1.30... back to GammaOS

Tested Anbernic's latest stock update (v1.30) yesterday after coming from 1.29. I always appreciate seeing official updates (especially things like Linux support for the RG DS) but this one just isn't for me

It feels too bloated with features nd settings I'll never use. All I really need is Daijisho + RetroArch. Stock RetroArch is configured in a way I don't like, installing a fresh version breaks Home button.

So I went back to GammaOS, this time Lite ver. No Google services no unnecessary extras just a clean emulator setup. Once everything wa configured I turned off wifi and bluetooth and it finally felt like my perfect retro handheld again.

But that's just me, maybe you've had better experience with the latest update and feel like they made improvements. Share your thoughts

We'll never let MS-DOS die

No matter how many modern games I play, i'll always come back to DOS. There'sjust something timeless about hearing those old sound cards ,solving point-an-click adventures, & blasting through 3d corridors. nothing comes close to it, it was THE era.

handhelds: Anbernic RG DS, 477V, 34XX-SP, 40XXV, 406V

The GAMES:

  1. Sam & Max: Hit the Road

  2. Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail!

  3. The Legend of Kyrandia - Book Three: Malcolm's Revenge

  4. The Chaos Engine

  5. Duke Nukem 3D

  6. Prince of Persia

  7. King's Quest VI

  8. Transport Tycoon Deluxe

  9. Doom II: Hell on Earth

  10. Wolfenstein 3D

  11. Stunts

  12. The Settlers

  13. Curse of Enchantia

RG DS stock Linux os - is it any good?

Games on the photos (all MS-DOS system): The Dig, Sam and Max Hit the Road, The Chaos Engine, Superfrog, Prince of Persia.

The negatives:

Some DS games have controller issues.

Doesn't have Portmaster or ScummVM dedicated app.

Doesn't have Tate mode for arcades (final burn near or mame - for vertical games that would use both screens)

Doesn't have optimised Amiga Puae2021 core for CD32 games.

The positives:

Waaaay smoother than Android stock OS - games and the system itself.

Pretty stable, no charging issues

Quick boot

Easy to add games, no bios files required

If you've had issues loading any CFW onto RG DS this one is easy to install, not fussy about SD cards, you can flash with any Rufus or BalenaEtcher or burn it with CD-ROM or Floppy disk or c64 tape... anything will work compared to CFW.

Surprisingly MS-DOS works smoother than on Rocknix.

Overall pretty happy with it unless more stable CFW will show up.

What's your experience with it?
