People interested in middle eastern fantasy, tell me what you would want to see in a fantasy story set in the middle east.
This could be tone, content, style, a specific inspiration. Or anything that would make you want to read it.
What are some good sources to read on early post Byzantine music?
I am an Ottoman classical musician and would like to know more about the origin of the music I play. I know it is derived from post Byzantine music, with some small influences from Iran as well as some later internal developments in the Ottoman empire.
Vocal şarki in segah makam.
Truly one the great melodic songs of its era. Its modulations are creative and unexpected. It utilizes the makam segah in ways not often done anymore.
AITA? A someone is harassing me and saying I deserve it.
Someone in a social group(who is rather popular within it) I am in harasses me and bullies me whenever we interract. It started about a month and a half ago. Things used to be fine, but then we started arguing more and more often, things kept getting more heated. She would always try to prove how I was wrong about everything and how she was always "right", I got mad at her every time she said this. Eventually I got tired of it and then backed off. A while later I decided to start talking to the person again, who acted as if everything was fine. But then she began to repeatedly belittle me and irritate me as much as possible, generating large reactions from me. She bullied me no matter how conciliatory I was, or how much I appeased her.(though some appeasement would occasionally just make her ignore me) This bullying continued for weeks until I finally confronted the person on it. She said that she was bullying me because she found my behavior "annoying" and that she was just immitating how she saw me to behave. I asked he to stop repeatedly, and she said that she wouldnt because I "deserved it". She then also said that she enjoyed it and that she wouldnt stop because she enjoyed it and that I had no authority to make her stop. (this conversation lasted over a half hour, with me being near the point of tears) I lashed out at her briefly, then I got someone else to intervene. This third person asked for both of our sides of the story, then the third person asked the person to explain herself. She said that she did it because she enjoyed it and that me asker her to stop made her want to do it more. The third person convinced the two of us to stop interracting with eachother. So we did for a while, but since the people I liked in the group interacted with her alot, she was hard to avoid, especially since she still kept trying to irritate me even when I was ignoring her. Out of desire to interact with the people I actually liked I decided to re enter the spaces which she frequents. When I did the behavior continued in full. I asked one of her friends about all this and he said that she is "just abrasive" and "doesnt communicate well".
Am I the asshole? (she certainly thinks I am)
Could I be the asshole for unknowingly being incredible abrasive, or is she the asshole for her bullying behavior for the period after?
Please only use geopoll if you poll specifically benefits from using it
Alot of the time people are needlessly using geopol. Unless you specifically want region data above all else it makes for a significantly more inconvenient poll for people to answer.
In a time where traditional regional musical styles are becoming harder and harder to find due to the glut of fake generative context clogging up searches, it is important to have places to discuss this music that do not allow this slop to pollute peoples perceptions of traditional music.
This server is specifically devoted to music from west asia, southeast europe, north africa and central asia. Though we also discuss other forms of modal music like klezmer, calabrian folk, traditional irish music as well as Indian classical music. Our members range from musicians, to listeners, from people interested in the theory to people studying the specific regional traditions out of fascination or cultural pride. Our users are both from these regions of the world, as well as outside of them.
