Silicon Mirror and Kaleidoscope

Problem: Create symmetric tessellated wallpaper from your own images. Moe's Image Viewer allows you to view most images. The Silicon Mirror is a gadget that operates a bit like the mirrors inside a kaleidoscope. It floats over Moe and reflects portions of the image open in Moe. You can interactively create tiles which when stacked, tile the plane seamlessly. It is pretty fun. At the risk of sounding nerdy, the Silicon Mirror allows you to create wallpaper tiles that conform to the ‘pmm’ , ‘p3m1’ , ‘p4m’ , and ‘p6m’ crystallographic wallpaper groups.

The Silicon Kaleidoscope is a Windows screensaver that uses the Silicon Mirror to create kaleidoscopic images that flow in real time.

Comparison: Adobe Photoshop has some similar reflection modes, but they are not as complete or interactive as the Silicon Mirror. I am not really aware of anything quite like the Silicon Mirror.

One thing the makes the Silicon Kaleidoscope screensaver somewhat unique is that it creates psychedelic patterns from your images.

Pricing: Free. Can be downloaded from the Microsoft App Store.
