Has anyone else had that annoying "use the app" popup start coming up every 5 seconds today?

Normally that annoying popup comes up every 15 minutes or so. As of today it comes up every 5 seconds or so, as soon as i open to read a new post or comment it comes up. It was annoying before but if it continues i will leave reddit. Is this an error in the site or are they ramping it up to annoy users into using it by making the site irritating without it? Anyone else had this issue today?

Edit: this is about 850 calories

Today's ration: imitation Aldi's box dinner

I had planned something else but changed it due to making plans to go somewhere but that fell through and I'm improvising an alternative.

Don't have much left in the pantry to work with so i used about 2/3 pint of macaroni noodles (no idea how old they are), 2 pouches of Velveeta cheese sauce (expired 2023), a can of chicken (expired 2023) and some dehydrated broccoli to make this slop.

I dried the broccoli a couple years ago, dicing small and drying on aluminum trays , kept in a jar to keep dry. I boiled some in water to rehydrate. Rather flavorless and a brown color but mostly pliable.

Shredded the chicken and put it all together then mixed. The hot noodles warming everything else.

This is all I'm eating today and amounts to about 1200 calories for the day.

I have enough broccoli to do this 5 more times.

I dried the broccoli because i am similulating a box dinner that Aldi's used to sell, then they changed the ingredients a decade ago and trippled the price (used to be dry stuff then it became foil pouch damp stuff) I'm sure the price went up again since then. Anyway this is a slightly cheaper and edible alternative to that box mix.

(I was planning leftovers today, then yesterday someone offered me a ride to the food pantry held today, so i ate the leftovers yesterday and thought i would have something better today, looked forward to going out all yesterday and this morning then at the last minute they texted that they were not going to do it afterall, so i had to scrape together something for today out of whatever is left in my pantry, and I'm down to the D rations now lol)

Today's ration: chicken dinner 845 calories 27g protein

I made the boxed stuffing without adding oil or butter, just water equal to what it called for. Had half of it. Half a can of green beans, half a can of cranberry sauce.

The unusual part is the chicken. I used a half cup of water with half a packet of instant gravy heated in a metal mug, then i picked out half the chicken from a can of chicken and mixed them into the mug of gravy after i turned the heat off. The heat from the gravy warmed the chicken pieces.

I'll be repeating this ration tomorrow as leftovers. The open cans will just go in a plastic bag to keep the bugs away and the bag left on the counter till tomorrow, no refrigerator and its as good a place as any to leave it. It takes longer than that for obvious spoilage. I have never got sick eating leftovers like this.

Today's ration: rice and green beans. No salt of seasoning

Green beans expired in 2024. Are among the newest canned goods in my shack. They were not canned with salt.

Rice is 1 cup rice with 2 cups water.

Yesterday i had a can of corned beef hash and 3 eggs around 2pm. Didn't eat anything since, but have since walked 8 miles and spent an hour mowing the yard, since I'm too fatigued and dizzy to continue mowing (regardless of back pain) i am having today's ration early.

This is all i plan to eat today

Todays ration: macaroni and cheese with a side of relish, it was as bad as it sounds

Not much left in my pantry so I'm really scraping whats left.

The noodles were in a jar for years, no idea how old. The Velveeta expired in 2020. 1/4 jar of relish . The relish expired in march 2023 and has sat open unrefrigerated for at least 8 months and as many as 12.

Threw this together because its something.

Yes i ate it, all of it, it was horrible, but i had to eat something. Really wish i had a box of Klondike bars instead but that wasn't going to happen so i just choked this down.

Today's ration: mac and cheese and a side of relish

I have no idea how old the noodles are, used half what was in the jar.

Used 2 pouches of Velveeta sauce, expired 2022.

I added 1/4 jar of relish to the side. The relish expired in march of 2023. Its sat open on a shelf and unrefrigerated for at least 8 months. Was used in my first shittyfoodporn post last summer and was already open long before then. Hadn't used any since so i am doing this to use it up and get it off the shelf.

Not calling it kraft dinner since thats bothered a few people the last few times.

Originally planned to have corned beef hash and eggs today but had it yesterday evening as i had walked 10 miles and was weak and dizzy. Scraped this alternative ration together out of whatever was left in the pantry.

Found a panty shine just off the road on a town road

Nobody lives within half a mile except a retired couple in their 80s.

Panties hang in the trees up and down this stretch of road but just inside the tree line there is this one spot thats the largest concentration of them.

Edit: i meant shrine, that was a typo. Also this us a very rural area a few miles from the Quebec border.

Today's ration: open top dutch oven apple pie, estimate 1600 calories.

Been about 23 hours since i last ate (leftovers yesterday), worked plowing and planting all day yesterday, plus a few evening miles on my bike. Up early though didn't sleep last night from back pain. Fired up the stove since it was 49f in the cabin and humid, made the pie then while it cooled i walked my dogs 4 miles before today's rain starts, it started just as i got back. Haven't eaten or drank in a while and procrastinating to make this post lol.

1 jiffy pie crust mix and water to smear the dough on the oven. Then i dumped a quart of homemade pie filling into it. These apples are firmer than last time so didn't become mushy sauce and the clearjel didn't all become a solid mass at the bottom. I had more cinnamon in this jar but still very little added sugar.

This is all I'm eating today. In excruciating pain and will be bedridden all day, overdid it lol :)

Today's ration: bland flavorless mush! Jk lol, its a chicken noodle pot, with very little flavor and a soft mushy texture.

Hadn't eaten since rice and beans 25 hours ago. Walked 4 miles and biked 15 this morning. Food pantry being held today iirc but its well outside my ability to travel to myself, generally not worth the effort to get to it.

Anyway, this is 1 can of chicken, expired in 2020. 1 can of corn expired in 2022. I can of green beans expired in 2023. A bunch of macaroni i had in a jar in a barrel i buried in 2015 so who knows how old it is, just that im digging up the really old stuff. Also 3 packets of Velveeta sauce expired in 2020.

Normally i have peas when i make a chicken noodle pot but I'm out of peas, almost out of green beans too, except a couple jars of leather britches that were also in that barrel. The peas i planted haven't germinated, nothing has, so my crops are likely a flop. The peas had more calories and protein, the whole can if green beans is just 60 calories.

Edit: only half for today. Will put a cut up piece of an old bread bag over the bowl, weigh it down with a plate, and leave on the counter to finish the other half tomorrow. No refrigerator.

Second edit: I forgot to mention the small can of carrots in it too. That doesn't expire until November

Todays ration: rice and beans. The beans aren't expired they are just vintage!

1 cup dry rice boiled in 2 cups water. Mix in a can if expired, i mean vintage, beans, drained but not rinsed (i don't have indoor plumbing).

So seasonings, salt, etc, just straight up rice and beans.

Yes they are a bit damp, my crappy teeth have an easier time with mush. Spent years trying to see and being refused access to a dentist. Pulling my own bad teeth is not easy.

Legal advice needed dealing with mennonite tractor mechanic in upstate ny

Location: fort Covington ny

In 2019 i bought a farmall 706 for $7500 from a shady farmer/mechanic. I was ripped off and it needed a lot of work.

There were no tractor mechanics in the area who would do anything (i went through them all trying). My back was broken in a logging accident in 2021. A new mennonite tractor mechanic opened in 2023.

I spent about $8000 over the last 2 years (about half a years income wirth of my disability income from my injury) having various problems fixed by the mennonite tractor repair shop, new radiator, tires, etc. hoping to get it working to work my field and stop hiring another mennonite to plow and plant it. last year they put a new engine on it because after all their other repairs they still didn't solve anything, then they opened it up and found the old engine was junk.

Due to my spine injury i can't use it myself, i feel every bump up my metal spine so i was listing for sale after the new engine was put on it last year for $3500 (used engine but better than the old one). A guy i know wanted it, he was hired to use it to plow and plant my field and offered me $13k for it, said he was going to get a loan from another Mennonite i regularly do business with (who i hired to do the field, didn't have time, and hired this guy as a subcontractor). Asked me to hold it till he worked it out.

Guy showed up this spring but it all fell through when we found the engine block cracked over winter and the new radiator was split too ($1000 i had spent on that previously). The guy went to get the mennonite mechanic who realized he messed it up in the shop, admitted that they only put water in it, not antifreeze, to test everything out. Then they forgot to drain the water and put antifreeze in it when they dropped it off at my place in the fall.

He said they would make it right and fix it because they messed it up. Came and towed back to the shop. That was almost 2 months ago. They made no effort to work on it so far. I just spoke to them as they have finally picked up after a month ignoring my calls. The mechanic said they just left it to rust out back because they don't want to buy the parts it needs and are hoping to do it cheap eventually with salvage parts they remove off other tractors in the future.

I can't use it myself so want to sell it now that its planting season again and recover some of what i got in it but the mechanic is jerking me around and not fixing his mistake, leaving me waiting on him before i can sell it.

I am not sure what to do. Should i sue? Can i have another mechanic do the work and bill the first one for it? Should i demand they refund what i paid them last year and just junk it? Mennonites won't appear in court, their religion forbids it, they will just pay whatever is being sued for then the entire community will refuse to speak to the person who sued one of them. Which means i will not be doing business again with the other guy.

Very frustrated and being jerked around so want advice on what to do.

Today's ration: ham dinner (less corn, more beans), 630 calories and 35g protein, no salt added.

1 can of green beans, no salt added, expired 2023. 1/2 can of corn, no salt added, expired 2023. Half a can of ham, not expired until 2027. A spoon of soy based buttery topping and a bit of mustard.

The open cans of corn and ham were wrapped in an old bread bag to keep bugs out and will sit on the counter for tomorrows ration (leftovers with another can of beans).

Walked my dogs 4 miles this morning from 6am to 8am, had another sad bowl of cereal with powdered milk before it. Also rode my bike a few miles around noon after the pain from the walk let up a bit. Gonna do it again this evening.

The ham was lightly pan fried to warm it up and it has a wiggly creamy texture, and i boiled the vegetables in the canning water and drained.

Since my ration tomorrow will be the same thing i won't post tomorrow.

Today's ration: rice and beans, no seasoning or salt

Just an expired can of kidney beans and 1 cup dry rice boiled in 2 cups of water.

Probably shitty given its bland and flavorless.

u/elonmusktheturd22 — 16 days ago

1 cup dry rice, 2 cups water, 1 can if kidney beans, 2 boiled eggs.

Used thyme, tumeric, and curry powder on the rice/beans.

Got no mayonnaise so i used 1000 Island dressing as a binding agent for the yolks, topped with paprika.

Eggs sitting on a shelf at room temperature for 4 weeks, to age them so the shells peel (no refrigerator). Beans and dressing expired around 2023.

Going to have the same tomorrow. Was planning open top pie tomorrow and beans yesterday, but i didn't eat yesterday, so shuffled the beans on the schedule and removed the pie.

1 cup cereal, 1/4 cup powdered milk powder, 1 cup well water, put together and quickly mixed.

Haven't eaten more than once a day all year, but made an exception today :) I'll be stretching that bag until August. First time since last summer that I'm having cereal.

Also figured out how to use the flash on my cheap prepaid cell camera, and it seems I'm able to post more than one picture here again.

Only made in the spring, when i worked for the Mohawk tribe my coworkers were a mix of impressed that i ate stuff their grandparents used to eat, the rest were disgusted and called them "grass clippings donuts" afterwards they warned new hires not to eat my home cooking because I "eat a lot of really weird stuff"

So i pick a bunch of flower heads, raining today so they are closed, they are a member of the sunflower family after all.

I make batter from 4/5 cup flour, a pinch if sugar, a spoon of cornmeal, a half spoon of powdered milk and a bit if baking powder, 1 egg, then water to make batter.

Can either dip the flowers in batter or rip them up and mix them in the batter like corn fritters. Then deep fry them.

Good as is, or with mustard, or horseradish sauce

No idea the calories but i assume over 1200.
