First time DM, question about the finale...

So I haven't even run Session zero yet, that's supposed to happen later today, but my DM style is overpreparing. I did my Tarokka reading ahead of Session zero and Strahd's location is listed as the North Tower Peak. That's right above the heart of sorrow, and I kinda doubt they'll pass it without destroying it while they're on their way to meet with Strahd. I'm wondering how you guys would play that.

Would Strahd be waiting in the room above and come down to attack the party as they try to destroy his heart? Or should I have him be just arriving afterwards--angry that he got there too late--when they get to the room above the heart? Or maybe if they do as I expect and attack the heart we can pretend Rahadin or some other servant was there with him and he sent them down the stairs to defend the heart... technically he will be alone once they go up the stairs and encounter him for the first time in accordance with RAW, but for flavor he wasn't alone before that. And in the very small chance that they don't attack the heart because they want to focus on Strahd first, then Rahadin or another servant was never there with him.

What would you all suggest?

[One-shot][LFP][$5][Roll20][Sunday] Death House

Death House is the optional introductory adventure in the Curse of Strahd campaign, but I'd like to run it as a one-shot this Sunday, 6/28 at 6PM EDT (UTC-4). I'll be using StartPlaying, but the good news is that if you've never used StartPlaying before and you follow my Referral link, you can get $10 credited to your account upon signing up which will be used towards the one-shot. So please join me, we'll have fun!

If you're vehemently against paid D&D for whatever reason, please move along. I'm not interested.

[LFM][One-shot][$5][Roll20+Discord][Sunday 6PM EDT] Death House

1/6 players already joined, need at least 2 more. The session will go from 3-4 hours. It's organized through StartPlaying here and run via Roll20 Sunday, June 28th at 6:00 PM EDT (UTC−4). It's only $5, and the good news is if you've never signed up for StartPlaying, you can use my link to sign up and be granted a $10 credit which you can use towards the one-shot and you don't have to personally come out of pocket for the game.

Hope to see some of you there!

[DnD5e][LFP][Weekly][Mondays][PAID][$15][Roll20] - Curse of Strahd

Looking for a Curse of Strahd game with a DM who leans heavily into atmosphere, roleplay, and immersion? I’m currently recruiting for one of eventually multiple weekly Curse of Strahd campaigns and would love to bring some new adventurers into Barovia.

I’ve been running D&D 5e online since 2017 and have several years of experience running games through Roll20 specifically. I use a Roll20 Pro account and make full use of the tools available to create a smoother and more immersive experience for players, including dynamic lighting, API mods, animated maps/effects where appropriate, and organized handouts/journals.

I also put a lot of emphasis on presentation and mood. Expect ambient music, combat tracks, creepy soundscapes, and distinct NPC voices to help Barovia feel alive (or undead). Curse of Strahd works best when the atmosphere really lands, and I do my best to make every session feel tense, memorable, and cinematic.

For newer players: I share my compendium with the group, so you’ll have access to official Player’s Handbook classes, subclasses, spells, and features directly through Roll20 for easier character creation and leveling.

Whether you’re a veteran player looking for a strong gothic horror campaign or someone newer wanting to experience one of 5e’s most iconic adventures, you’re welcome at the table.

Platform: Roll20

Voice: Discord

System: D&D 5e

Price: $15/session (Session Zero is free)
