Senator Erwin Tulfo on Thursday disputed Senator Pia Cayetano’s claim that no one from the minority bloc checked on members of the majority after the May 13 shooting incident inside the Senate complex, saying several senators sent messages in their group chat that night.
According to Tulfo, he and other senators from the minority bloc—Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Bam Aquino, and Sherwin Gatchalian—sent messages in the WhatsApp group, where senators from both the majority and minority blocs communicate following the incident.
“We have a WhatsApp group chat that includes all members of both the majority and minority blocs. Messages were sent there by Sen. Kiko, Sen. Bam, Sen. Sherwin, and I also,” Tulfo, speaking Filipino, said in an interview with Unang Balita.
Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri was also among those who checked on the majority bloc, according to Inquirer sources.
Meanwhile, Tulfo said he personally sent a message around 9:57 p.m., saying, “Praying for all of you.”
Families of the missing sabungeros (cockfight enthusiasts) came to the National Police Commission (Napolcom) on Wednesday to report that most of the complainants were now under the monthly payroll of fugitive gambling tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang for P40,000 in exchange for their non-appearance in court hearings and dropping of cases against the alleged mastermind.
Of the 34 initial cases of missing sabungeros, five families were left fighting for justice. According to Diane Loyola, whose husband Ferdinand Dizon disappeared in Sta. Cruz, Laguna in 2022, 18 families were no longer appearing in Sta. Cruz hearings after striking a deal with lawyer Caroline Cruz, Ang’s legal counsel who, the families said, has been offering each one “financial assistance” guised as a foundation.
The victims presented the money used to bribe them. Loyola showed P30,000 cash, two other families showed envelopes of cash allegedly from Cruz.
Loyola said the promise was an initial amount given in the form of apologies for the “hassles” of the case and if they agreed, a monthly provision of P40,000 split into P20,000 every 15 and 30th.
“Lahat daw po ng pamilya ay nakausap na kaya po pala wala na mga umaattend. Sa halagang 40k a month pumayag po sila na hindi umattend ng hearing,” Loyola said.
Quoting Cruz’s supposed statement, Loyola said the non-participation of the families would weaken the case against Ang, who was expected to reappear to give a big amount to all families.

Filipino comedian and actress Melai Cantiveros visited South Chungcheong Province with her family and production crew as local officials seek to attract Filipino Catholic tourists ahead of World Youth Day Seoul 2027.
The actor and social media personality toured the province from Tuesday to Thursday as part of a promotional trip organized by South Chungcheong Province and the Korea Tourism Organization’s Manila office, officials said Thursday.
Cantiveros has a combined 21 million followers and subscribers across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, according to provincial officials. She is also serving as an honorary ambassador for family travel to Korea for the Korea Tourism Organization from 2024 to 2026.
The tour focused on Catholic pilgrimage sites, including Haemi International Holy Ground, the Wake-Up International Youth Center in Seosan, Hapdeok Catholic Church and Solmoe Holy Ground in Dangjin, known as the birthplace of Korean Catholicism.
On Wednesday, Cantiveros and her family visited Haemi International Holy Ground and the Wake-Up center, where they filmed vlogs and short-form videos. An Indian priest at Haemi and a Filipino staff member at the youth center accompanied the group and explained the sites, according to Seosan city officials.
The itinerary also included family-oriented tourist attractions. Cantiveros visited the Taean International Horticulture Healing Expo, experienced a mud foot bath at Boryeong Mud Theme Park and spent time with her family at Sapgyoho Amusement Park in Dangjin.
Seosan city said it provided English-language tourism materials and promoted historical and cultural attractions in the Haemi area, along with its religious tourism resources. Officials said videos from the trip are expected to help introduce South Chungcheong Province’s pilgrimage routes and local attractions to Filipino travelers through social media.
The campaign follows Seosan city’s participation in the Philippine Travel Tour Expo 2026 in Manila in February.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday said Senator Ronald dela Rosa will be arrested if he tries to leave the Philippines.
Justice Sec. Fredderick Vida, in a press briefing, confirmed an international Criminal Court (ICC) warrant of arrest against the former Philippine National Police chief.
"I do confirm that there is a valid ICC arrest warrant and a pending request from ICC… it has been duly received by the Philippines," Justice Sec Fredderick Vida said.
Vida said while the DOJ respects the Senate as a co-equal branch of government, he expects the upper chamber, which placed Dela Rosa under its protective custody, to turn him over to the DOJ once all legal issues have been resolved for his arrest.
"The DOJ will treat any attempt of Sen. Bato dela Rosa to leave the country as a mockery of justice," he said.
"Kung siya ay magtatangkang aalis ng Pilipinas, ibang usapan na iyon," he said.
"I'm giving specific orders to law enforcement agencies for border control authorities that if Sen Bato dela Rosa would try to leave the country that the appropriate arrest should be made," Vida said.
He said the Office of the Solicitor General will submit its reply no later than Saturday to the Supreme Court order that asked government officials to comment on Dela Rosa's plea for a restraining order on the implementation of the ICC arrest warrant.
"Mga kababayan ko, naliligaw din po tayo ng landas sa pagtingin natin sa proseso. Dito sa DOJ ang pilit nating pinupunto, tignan din po natin ang biktima. Tandaan po natin itong arrest warrant ni Sen Bato dela Rosa dahil may mga Pilipinong naghahanap ng katarungan," he said.
"Dito po sa DOJ pag may kinasuhan po kami, kaya nga po People of the Philippines, kakampi ng biktima yung people of the Philipines, inuusig natin. Tandaan po natin sa mga nakalatag na ebidesnsya sa ICC, may mga biktima po na naghahanap ng katarungan."
The ICC on Monday unsealed the arrest warrant against the former Philippine police chief.
Walang narekober na CCTV footage sa mismong posisyon ng mga tauhan ng Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) at Philippine Marines kaugnay ng shooting incident sa Senado noong gabi ng Miyerkules, Mayo 13.
Ito ang inihayag ni OSAA Chief at Retired Major General Mao Aplasca nang tanungin ukol sa mga ebidensyang posibleng magagamit sa pormal na imbestigasyon.
Ayon kay Aplasca, tanging ang posisyon ng mga ahente ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at ang “dulo ng tactical personnel” ng Senado ang nahagip sa kanilang pagrereview ng mga CCTV.
