Olivia Rodrigo secretly helped a University of Alabama student graduate when she paid for her final semester’s tuition.

Student Jamie Causey, who graduated from the Tuscaloosa-based university with a degree in public relations, revealed Tuesday that the “Driver’s License” singer gifted $5,000 to cover school costs — after keeping the kind gesture private for more than a year.

Causey, 21, recalled the interaction began in early 2025 when Rodrigo sent her birthday wishes and then messaged her after seeing that the first-generation college student was struggling to pay the semester’s tuition.

“I watched ur last vid about tuition and I’d love to help out if you were open at all to that? So cool that you are so close to graduating! Do you have a Venmo I could send to?” Rodrigo added.

Causey shared a follow-up message from Rodrigo’s rep in April 2025 confirming that the singer had sent her $5,000 toward her education.

The student said she kept the exchange private at the time because she wanted to protect what the gesture meant to her.

“You made me feel like I belong on this platform. You didn’t owe me anything. You just chose to show kindness to a stranger. You’ve always been about giving back to others, and that’s something I’ll take with me forever.”

Queenie Pacquiao is set to begin college after completing her high school education in May this year.

As previously reported, the daughter of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee will study forensic science at Loyola University Chicago (LUC).

Founded in 1870, the institution is located in Chicago, Illinois, and is regarded as one of the largest Roman Catholic universities in the U.S.

“I don’t know how I reached that point. I generally was just looking around the courses, what course I could take…” Queenie told sports journalist Dyan Castillejo.

“[A]fter this year, I was like, I don’t know if I could do law. I’d rather do something in the sciences, so I might as well do something in forensic science.”

When asked about her choice of school, Queenie said: “I think the campus is nice, and they say the people are nice there, too. And I really just wanna visit, like, go there for the city.”

According to the university's official website, the estimated annual cost for the 2026-2027 school year, is around $77,082, or PHP4.73 million, including mandatory fees, university housing, and a standard meal plan.

Queenie’s undergraduate tuition is estimated at $28,465 per semester, equivalent to roughly PHP1.75 million, according to the United Arab Emirates-based newspaper, The Filipino Times.

Based on that rate, her tuition alone amounts to about $56,930, or PHP3.49 million, for two semesters.

LUC describes its B.S. in Forensic Science as a program with a strong emphasis on the natural and physical sciences, giving students a foundation for careers in forensic science and related fields.

The university also notes that the curriculum covers a range of sensitive and complex subjects.

These include drug overdoses, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual violence, domestic violence, postmortem forensic toxicology, homicide and other violent crimes.

According to the university, its faculty members have both the expertise and the appropriate approach to teach these topics. They are also equipped to support and guide students as they navigate the more sensitive aspects of the program.

Sa direktiba ni Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, inisyuhan ng Show Cause Order (SCO) ang rehistradong may-ari at itinalagang drayber ng isang supercar matapos matukoy na gumagamit ito ng pekeng plaka habang bumibiyahe sa pampublikong kalsada.

Sa isinagawang beripikasyon ng LTO, natukoy na ang plate number na ginagamit ng naturang sasakyan ay may ibang alphanumeric combination kumpara sa orihinal na motor vehicle license plate number na nakatalaga rito. Kaugnay nito, inatasan ang rehistradong may-ari at itinalagang drayber na humarap sa Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) at magsumite ng beripikado o sinumpaang paliwanag kaugnay ng posibleng paglabag sa Use of Number Plates, gayundin upang ipaliwanag kung bakit hindi dapat suspendihin o bawiin ang kanilang lisensya dahil sa pagiging Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

Samantala, isinailalim sa 90-araw na preventive suspension ang driver’s license ng itinalagang drayber at inatasang isuko ito sa IID. Ang naturang supercar ay inilagay rin sa alarm status, at inatasan ang Law Enforcement Service (LES) na ipatupad ang pag-impound sa nasabing sasakyan.

“Walang VIP sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Kahit sino pa ang sangkot, kapag napatunayang lumabag, haharap sa kaukulang pananagutan. Hindi magdadalawang-isip ang LTO na kumilos laban sa sinumang lalabag sa ating mga patakaran. Walang palakasan, walang palusot, at walang exemption. Ang paggamit ng pekeng plaka at pag-iwas sa mga obligasyong dapat tuparin ay hindi pinapalampas ng LTO,” pahayag ni Asec. Lacanilao.

Patuloy na pinaaalalahanan ng LTO ang lahat ng motorista at rehistradong may-ari na tiyaking lehitimo ang kanilang mga dokumento, plaka, at rehistrasyon at tuparin ang lahat ng kaukulang obligasyon bago gamitin ang kanilang mga sasakyan sa pampublikong kalsada. Hindi magiging dahilan ang katayuan, pangalan, o halaga ng sasakyan upang makaiwas sa pagpapatupad ng mga patakaran. Tinitiyak ng LTO na mahigpit nitong susuriin at aaksyunan ang mga paglabag upang mapanatili ang integridad ng sistema ng pagpaparehistro ng mga sasakyan at mapanagot ang sinumang mapatutunayang lumabag.

Tycoon Ramon S. Ang has acquired a 25.7-percent stake in Lopez Inc. from Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III’s family branch, as the latter seeks to put a family dispute behind him. In a statement on Monday, Lopez said Creme Investment Corp., the holding company through which his branch owns the stake, had completed the sale to Ang. 

Moreover, Ang made the investment in his personal capacity through his wholly owned holding company. The statement did not disclose the value of the transaction.

Likewise, Ang confirmed the investment to the Inquirer in a text message. Asked whether he had acquired the stake, Ang replied: “Yes, Gabby’s shares.”

Lopez said the family dispute partly drove the sale, as they sought to restore peace within the family.“The first is my family,” Lopez said. “This dispute has not been good for any of us, or for the people who work in our companies. This allows us to take a step towards the restoration of family peace.”

Meanwhile, Lopez said the transaction would also redirect family resources toward businesses aligned with its “personal mission,” with details to follow

Still, He also expressed confidence in Ang as a partner to Lopez Inc., noting the longstanding relationship between their families.

For his part, Ang further stressed that the family branches retaining the controlling majority of Lopez Inc. would remain at the helm of the group.

Alex Eala advanced to the round-of-16 of the Canadian Open after a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win over Caty McNally of the United States, Friday at the Sobeys Stadium in Toronto (early Saturday in Manila). 

Eala had to overhaul a slow start in the third round affair that saw her trail 1-3 in the opening set before finding her rhythm against her American opponent. 

She faltered in the second after taking a tumble in the fifth game and needing to have her right foot wrapped before the sixth. The Filipina had a chance to serve for the match up 5-4, but McNally showed great grit in winning three straight games and forcing a decider.

The Filipina will play the winner of the third round match between Taylor Townsend and Belinda Bencic.

ABS-CBN news caught up with Soberano  at the VIP area of the Peacock Theater after watching BINI’s concert in downtown Los Angeles, Wednesday night. 

She felt like a proud “ate” to BINI after watching them perform onstage. Soberano, who watched the show with the creators of Forgotten Island, shared her excitement for Filipinos to see the movie.

“Sobrang natutuwa lang ako na there’s so many Filipino everywhere. Hindi lang sa Pilipinas, dito sa States, they see themselves in the movie. The whole movie is in the Philippines, right? Even like other nationalities too, boys and girls, find the movie very appealing,” she said.

“I’m just so happy that the Filipino community is embracing it and that they feel seen and just like special because this movie is made for them,” she added.

Calling the project a dream come true, Soberano said, “Super kilig po ako, because it felt like they assembled the Filipino Avengers.” The film features Filipino talents including Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy, BINI, and SB19.

Years after pursuing her career in Hollywood, Soberano admitted that the journey was not easy. “I’m really happy that I’m slowly getting there and slowly achieving my dreams. I mean, it wasn’t easy. There was a lot of hardships that I had to go through,” she said.

“I am very happy that I stayed consistent and that pinanindigan ko talaga lahat ng pangarap ko,” she added, sharing that she hopes to inspire younger generations and others who want to pursue their dreams.

At this point, Soberano said she feels “more free” in her career.

“I feel like, where I am right now in my career, there’s nothing to compare me to really because, I feel like it hasn’t been fully been done like in the way I’m doing it, I’m doing it in a different way,” she said.

She also shared that the Philippines and her fans will always have a special place in her heart, and she is waiting for the “right story” and a meaningful project before returning to Philippine entertainment.

At least 42 projects in Taguig City, the bailiwick of Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, have reportedly been flagged as spurious, including supposed ghost slope protection works and the alleged unauthorized reclamation of portions of Laguna Lake, Politiko learned.

An Iskooper said the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) has reportedly shared with authorities documents and other evidence on the questioned projects around the C6-Laguna Lake area. The materials are expected to be submitted to the Office of the Ombudsman for possible use in the filing of cases.

The PRA is the government agency tasked with regulating and coordinating reclamation projects nationwide.

The Iskooper said the potential fallout could go beyond criminal or administrative charges, with the government supposedly studying whether illegally reclaimed lakeshore properties could be forfeited in favor of the state.

“Alan stands to lose more than political capital if the government pursues this aggressively. Billions of pesos may be at stake, especially if the reclaimed areas are found to have been developed without authority and are taken back by the national government,” the Iskooper said.

The latest information appears to reinforce Sen. Panfilo Lacson’s earlier disclosure of an alleged P14.4-billion web of anomalous infrastructure projects in Taguig funded from 2020 to 2025.

Among the red flags raised by Lacson was the alleged use of appropriations labeled as “slope protection” to finance reclamation activities along the lakeshore despite the absence of required permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Lacson also claimed the reclamation activities continued with little resistance because officials of the Laguna Lake Development Authority feared being publicly dressed down by Cayetano during Senate hearings.
