EICR remedials

Just a question as I think know the answer, but some of you do more of this than me. 🤔

I did some remedial work for a few C2's on a property which is classed as commercial. EICR was by someone else.

Completed the MWC's so it's there anything else to do? I'm not sure as usually I have to send them to a company which manages all that side of thing, but this is a bit of private work.

WhatsApp messages

If someone messages me in WhatsApp then I can reply no issues, but sending a message otherwise doesn't work.

If I look at my contacts and press one, it opens a screen with 3 'Top Contacts' which I've no idea where they came from as they seem random.

Via voice it keeps saying "who do you want to message" after displaying their name.

If it's a design issue and will only allow you to start a message to one of 3 people then how does it decide who they are?

Test leads

OK for work I use a Fluke so I'm spoilt 😜

But as I only do a few jobs at home/friends etc I can justify buying a Fluke as it only would get used every few months.

To save hassle of bringing my work MFT home then back to work I decided a couple of years back to get a cheap MFT so got a Di-Log 9118 which is fine for the things I do....

.... but I hate the leads/clips etc as they give inconsistent readings, especially on low resistance. Wiggle the plugs and get a different reading 🙄 Plus they feel 'cheap'.

So different lead advice please? Seen Megger & Kewtech do a MFT set for about £50.

Or anything else?

RCCB

Anyone know of a 110v RCCB?

There is the Schneider iC60H2 (an RCBO I know!) but they are quite pricy.

Protek seem to do one, but I'm not 100% sure so I've emailed them.

Before anyone says "you don't need them" it's due to high EFLI rather than additional protection.

When I say 110v I mean a 55-0-55 system 👍🏻

Spurs off a ring

A little while back on here someone argued that you can only have one unfused spur off a *socket*.

I couldn't understand the logic behind this as it's no different electrically to have 2 spurs off a socket (although getting 4 wires in would be a challenge!) or a spur on two different sockets.

OSG 7.2.2 & H2. 4 also BS7671 appendix 15 doesn't mention you can't do this.

Thoughts? Not that it's a great thing to do, just wondering regs wise.

E550W printet

I love this printer.... it's done LOADS of labels for me, but the blade isn't as good as it was.

I was thinking it would be easy to replace, a few screws and a new blade..... but I can't even find if they sell a spare blade. 🥴

Spent the last half hour trying to find anything but can't.

Anyone replaced one?

Marking reports

Just wondering where Waze puts the actual location when you make a report (obstacle on road, roadworks etc).

Is it when you hit the + sign or when you actually hit the button to report it?

It's just it can take a while to hit the +, navigate to the correct thing you are reporting while still trying to look at the road.

If it's when the + is pressed then I haven't got to rush before picking the correct report!

Annoyed...

OK so I needed to get a new circular saw (just the odd DIY jobs) so decided for a battery one.

Got a bare GKS 18V51.... and it is bare! Doesn't even include a parallel guide or even the nut! 😡

How much! (L-boxx)

Why are large L- boxes so expensive!

I needed a new blade on my circular saw, but as it's an odd size I couldn't find one.

Looking about I found a GKS18 which was pretty cheap. It was bare, but as I've a few batteries spare I decided to get it.

Now I like my tools in boxes, so if I get bare tools I'll look for a L-box to put it in..... ouch... it needs an L-boxx 238 and with an insert it's 75% of the price of the saw!

A rethink is in order. 🥴

Click LVT (UK)

We had stick down LVT in our kitchen and had it in a previous house so we like it.

Doing our bedroom we though we'd give click LVT a go as it's cheaper as I can lay it myself.

On the instructions it says to use a PU foil underlay over concrete to stop moisture, but our floor isn't just concrete.

It was built in the early 60's and has a bitumen type covering on the floor which I think was what they put on before changing to a DPM.

Anyways, do I need the PU underlay? Or should I just put in under as it doesn't cost much?

EM lights

Just replacing a few of these, twin spot self test, and was wondering about the auto test.

It might be manufacture specific but do they retain when they did their last test on a power outage? I'm guessing so as they have a battery in them. 😂

Just wondering....

Closed road

Driving last night and the road was closed so went to report it using Waze on Android Auto, but the icon wasn't there....

I guess it because you have to interact with the screen a bit more, but why can't you mark a road closed when using Android Auto?

You can do it on the app when it's not connected.... which kind of defeats the point. 🙄

Old SWA

I decided to throw my old regs books away a while back 'as I wouldn't need them' but......

... I was terminating an old cable which I think is 19/.083 (although maybe 70mm). Anyway it's PVC and 18th only has XLPE. 😕

Anyone got ideas on current capacity? It's 3 phase, reference method E.

3 (?) way lighting

Ok, UK spark here with a question to those over the pond....

In the US you call 3-way lighting what we call here 2-way. i.e. Turning a light on and off from 2 different switches.

Why do you call it 3 way when you have 2 switches.... I'm just confused 🤔

Probably a good reason. 😜
