XXL 38" CurverK Eames Chair Replica Video Review

XXL 38" CurverK Eames Chair Replica Video Review

As promised in a previous comment on this reddit, here is the video review.

So I'll give you the good, the bad, and the nitpicky.

Background, as I said I'm 6'4" 32" inseam so mostly torso for height. I have a background in prototyping, industrial design degree, and leather working is a hobby.

Start with the bad: honestly not much. The only bad and it's more of a eames chair design and not a curverk issue is the angle of the top section isn't the most comfortable for resting your head. To comfortably rest my head back a pillow behind the head is required. But my head does hit the head rest. The chair isn't a recliner, so you're not really meant to sleep in it. I went to DWR/Hermin Miller and sat in the OG tall eames chair and it was the same body position/posture, just shorter. Other bad, assembly of the arms, specifically attaching the padded arm wrest to the bracket that holds the bottom and top is a bit of a pain in the ass. 2 bolts on each arm rest and It was the only bolt that didn't want to align easily and I nearly cross threaded one on each side.

The good: build quality seems very sturdy. The plywood looks great, good/smooth edge finish all the way around, feels well fabricated. No squeaks or creaks, nothing feels loose. No china factory smells. Leather quality is good as well, it's a middle weight upholstery leather and should age/wear/patina nicely, especially if taken care of. Foam is stiff as expected of new furniture. Its comfortable to sit all the way back in the chair with no need to slouch, but a small pillow behind your lower back if you want to sit lower also works well.

The nitpicky:

Shipping: Comes as 2 boxes and the bigger box of the 2 is very large so if you drive a camry and have the boxes shipped to work (FedEx sucks) the larger of the 2 will not fit and you will need to take everything out and fit the pieces in your trunk. The website made it sound like it shipped freight but it's regular FedEx. They also don't have signature requirements and will leave it outside.

On mine the ottoman has a strange very slight wavy pattern in the leather, which comes from their protective packaging during shipping. Will be waiting for that to relax out

As this is the nitpicky section, there is also the smallest dibbit from their router process right on the top center. If you've ever hand routed something you know you sometimes get a tiny dimple where you first start or end. I only found it because I put my arms over my head and was idly fingering the edge. You wouldn't ever see it unless you were looking for it. No other edge on the whole thing has that defective, real bummer it's right where my hands will end up occasionally.

Future concerns, I reached out before I purchased about how the cushions are attached and they said Velcro. Not necessarily my favorite answer in case I want to change out the foam in a few years, but we'll find out then I guess.

In general, I'm glad I bought it am enjoying having it and look forward to breaking it in. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

My Experience with Chase Sapphire Travel Hotel Price Match Guarantee

At the beginning of July I planned a trip for the end of August to go to New Orleans for a long weekend. I had never used my Edit credits but the opportunity presented it self. I am also apparently in the beta group that were given the availability of price match for chase travel hotels. Great double whammy. So I find an Edit hotel that was well priced and qualified for the credit, and also happened to be listed cheaper on another website. The price match policy only counts if its submitted within 24hrs of booking and only after you've booked it, and with exact room type, cancellability (there is slight difference here of 3 days before vs day before), max up to $150 match price etc. That's not a problem, it all matches (well enough).

Hotel Price on Chase Travel (charged) - $432.80

  • 2 x 186.40 nightly
  • $58 Resort fee
  • $2 city fee

Hotel Price on other website - $329.41

  • 2 x 138.48 (included $29 per night resort fee)
  • 52.45 taxes/fees

Take the screen shots as required, hit submit, all good. Next day I get a determination letter of acceptance, sweet claim is approved! But wait.... I got refund $32.04, what? huh? How the hell did they come up with that number?

I can see a refund of $95.84 (nightly difference) or $103.39 (total price difference), but seriously where the fuck did 32.04 come from?

I've called in and had a ticket opened to explain it but just got a call (3 weeks later) and all I can be told is it was determined to be correct, but no further explanation. I'm so confused. Anyone got thoughts or know who I should contact to get a better explanation?

Advice on pulling ethernet?

Need advice/tips & tricks on pulling some Ethernet cable. My apartment is a long 2 bedroom apartment that has 3 old phone ports that are daisy chained from the primary bedroom to the 2nd bedroom, and from the 2nd bedroom to the end of the living room. I would like to replace the phone cable with Ethernet. I am not sure if anything is stapled, but at least from the primary bedroom to the 2nd bedroom I can tug on one end and move the other. Not sure about the 2nd to the living room yet.

Minimum goal "easy" goal is 1 Ethernet from br 1to the br2 which I think should work out ok. Second not so easy goal is from the primary to the living room. Ultimate goal (hardest I think) is from the primary to the utility closet off the living room. More about that one in a bit

Easy Goal:

I'm thinking to start I would pull back the phone from br1 to br2 with a polyline attached, then use the polyline to either: pull 1 Ethernet with a 2nd polyline or 2 ethernet cables at the same time.

Second Goal:

Attach the second pulled ethernet to the phoneline from the 2 br to the living and pull the ethernet along, or do a polyline first then pull the ethernet through.

Ultimate Challenge Goal:

My perfect goal would be to go from br1 to the utility close, but there is not existing line there. In the utility closet is a hole in the ceiling drywall where I can stand on a ladder and peek into the space between my ceiling and the roof, about 1.5ft of clearance space. The studs do go along the route, but there is duct that crosses the path from br1 to the closet.

I don't have experience pulling Ethernet or wire, just handy at most housing and fabrication things. In addition I have borrowed a friend 100ft fiberglass fish tape. I've only ever used fish tape for straight shots down from a 1st floor to a basement where you have lots of access. Any tricks for getting a fish tape to bend a corner?

  • Any thoughts or general advice before I start thing?
  • No additional holes in the drywall
  • I wont fit in the crawl space....

Pi4 to older mini PC, benefits?

Currently running HA on a PI4 with an A1 micro sd, 4gigs of ram. No problems, lag, etc

I have access to a free HP Pro Desk G4 mini PC, 8100t 3.1 GHz, with 8gig of ram and 256 sata ssd.

Thinking of switching from the pi to the mini PC but curious what benefits would get besides longer term durability? Currently not running any heavy automations, but thinking about maybe moving away from my Google homes to local voice control to degoogle my life a bit. Would those specs be able to handle that? Would there be any other noticeable changes or improvements?

Currently on my HA: Adguard, local thermostat control replacing nest controls, some lighting automations relating to the weather/TV backlight & firestick, dashboard showing flights above my apartment, and starting to add some zigbee devices (lights and window open sensors to tie into a controls).

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

Setting up some sensors for work, pressure differential?

I'm setting of some minor sensors to monitor some stuff at work. I searched and it's come across this reddit a few times over the years, but nothing recent. Has anyone seen or setup a pressure differential sensor for something that would help monitor air filter restriction? I'd like to add a manometer type sensor to a fumehood. Thoughts?

Anyone have experience with the Curvex 38" XXL?

I'm a pretty big guy 6'4" 230lbs, and all torso (32") inseam. Came across the Curvex XXL tall which would definitely fit me, but my only pause is the cushions don't come off meaning when my big ass wears out the foam I can't easily replace. Does anyone have experience with that version?

I have also see some comments from people directly contacted the company that the 350lb weight limit is actually closer to 260 for regular use, 350 max, but I'm wondering if that was for the regular/xl version and if the XXL version is newer?

Thanks for any help!

▲ 1 r/Adguard+1 crossposts

I'm trying out home assistant and adguard as a replacement for my pihole.

- I've got HA running on a pi4, easy setup there.

- I changed the network settings to be static for IPv4.

- I got adguard installed, selected: start on boot, watchdog, show on sidebar.

- Start the service

The issue I am having is when I go into the adguard settings and look at the setup guide it only shows listening to 127.0.0.1. restarting adguard, the pi, uninstalling adguard and reinstalling etc, can't get that to update showing the static IP.

The first time I tried I setup adguard before setting the static IP. I uninstalled made sure it was set and reinstalled.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

I am looking to upgrade my apartment wifi for both data security and network experience. I currently have a Google Wifi Router mesh with main unit and 1 node. I'm trying to degoogle and want more through put (I get 900 down at the router, I want better than 150 in the same room as the main node). I am looking at the udr7 and potentially a mesh node (looking for rec).

At work I've setup and manage 2 unifi networks, 1 dream machine pro with 6 hardwired ap, cameras, vlans, etc, the other location is a simple deployed UDR7. The UDR7 is currently installed at a warehouse and gets crazy good signal and speed across the facility. I really like the control and interface of the unifi controller and potential expandability. I've been able to borrow the UDR7 to test at my apartment before pulling the trigger. It's crazy how accurate the unifi designer estimate of signal loss is.

My apartment is not conducive to hardwiring, rental and layout of the apartment. The rest of my apartment is also not conducive to long range wifi, i.e think from main router to center of living room is 1 doorway, a zigzag hallway, multiple drywall layers, a tile layer, kitchen cabinet with dishes multiple closets, etc. Currently my google mesh node is about halfway from the bedroom main node and the living room at the other end of the apartment. It definitely boosts what otherwise would be a terrible signal. So my questions for a unifi solution are:

  1. I understand that the typical blanket statement is to stay away from mesh, it doesn't have a dedicated backbone and will share the 5ghz bandwidth. I assume there hasn't been an update remedying that or a new product specifically for this issue?

  2. When they say you will lose 50% on each node hand off, can I estimate that as if I get 1gig down standing next to the udr7, and say 300 standing where I would put the mesh node, I would get 150 in my living room (2nd half of the total distance)?

  3. One complaint I have for the Google wifi is it is horrible about mesh node hand off, meaning I will remain connected to whichever node my device saw first unless I basically loose signal and reconnect. The AP's at work are great at handing off, how's unifi hand off between nodes on mesh?

  4. Has anyone got a better recommendation to remedy my situation?
