Is it true that non-Muslims can get a "Shari'ah divorce" in the PH if you just pay a fee? Or is this a scam?
Hi, I need a reality check for my cousin because his logic makes absolutely no sense to me.
He got married under Christian rites just last Nov 2025. Last month, he broke up with his wife because he’s seeing someone else, and now he is dying to get a quick divorce so he can be with the new girl.
Since actual annulment takes years and and a ton of money, he is proudly claiming he found a shortcut where someone can get him a "Shari'ah divorce" in 6 months for less than ₱200k. When I pointed out the obvious that Shari'ah law is strictly for Muslims he literally told me, "No need to convert to Islam, you just need to pay." He even claims he knows someone who did it.
For context, both he and his wife are born-and-raised Christians. He has zero ties to Islam.
Is there actually any universe where a Shari'ah court handles a Christian marriage just because money changed hands? Or is he just falling for a massive fixer scam / TikTok myth because he wants an easy way out?
Thank you!!
