how difficult is cello

I'm a singer-songwriter, piano is my main instrument. I'd love to be able to play some kind of strings to accompany my music and it seems Cello has the most versatile range. My aim's not to become pro but just be able to play pretty simple sections and melody's. Without 1 on 1 teaching, how achieveable is this?

Does this sound too similar to Cameron

Came up with this piano bit for a song. At first reminded me of I won’t say I’m in love from Hercules. But the more I play it the more I’m scared Cameron winter is coming through. Is it too similar to some of his stuff already?

Digital String sections

Anyone have any idea on how I can get a similar string/ cello sound with digital instruments on logic?

Cameron Winter dilemma

Waits is a massive influence on me personally as a singer songwriter. More lyrically I’d say, though Closing Time is a big influence musicality wise. However, whenever I try to let this come through in my own work I get Cameron winter allegations. Obviously winter has been inspired by waits also, but whenever I make a song that has that old Waits + Cohen feel, it’s like that sound has been coined by Winter (in the modern era, that is). Anyone have thoughts on this?

Is this too Winteresque?

Came up with this morning but unsure whether to keep working on it. Does it sound too Cameron wintery?

How to get a record deal with no contacts

I’ve had a few meetings with some management companies and one major record label who both asked to chat with me after some demos of mine got to them. But it’s like they only want to meet with me for the sake of saying hi incase the music gets bigger and they can then swoop in an involve themselves. I get it, they’re building the connection. But it seems like no one wants to actively support my stuff BEFORE it gains larger attention. So, how do I get this attention. My stuff is pretty solid, but I am very reluctant to spam post on socials (which seems to be the only way). It feels like if I had a connection to the industry my life would be sm easier. How can I start creating momentum that they are then comfortable amplifying?

Playlisting an the Algorithm

I’m an alt indie folk artist. Thinking about releasing independently on streaming services and wondering how playlists work and how helpful they are to actually grow the traction and reception of a track. How do you get a track (especially your first single release) on one of these playlists? I feel like there’s a whole underworld of this playlisting system that I haven’t uncovered. Also, how would a label help (in terms of streaming numbers and such) compared to an independent release?

Cleaning noise and colour distortion

How noticeable is the colour distortion in the blacks (probably hard to tell on iPhone size) is it noticeable to a fresh viewer? Played around on davinci and this seems the best I can get it to so any tips? Also wonder if it’s too dark and how the background/ set looking? Filmed in my lounge and worried it ruins the look. Thanks

Logic being a little bitch

My Roland Fantom-08 is connected to Logic, with KRK speakers running through a Rode AI-1. Logic playback and the metronome work fine, but I’m getting no live sound from the Fantom even though input monitoring is on and Logic shows it’s receiving signal.

It also won’t work properly as a MIDI controller, despite the Roland driver being recognised. I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and the Fantom is detected, just not functioning properly.

Everything was working perfectly a week ago, then suddenly stopped. Weirdly, an older Casio keyboard works fine as MIDI in Logic, so the issue seems specific to the Fantom. Fantom settings are correct too — USB driver is set to Vendor and nothing’s been changed.

I’ve put out, and am continuing to put out, demos and music on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. I think gigging and live performance are my strong suits, but when I do perform, it’s mostly just for friends and some family. I refuse to post reels and TikToks, it feels dehumanising to me. How do I get to the next level? It’s exhausting waiting for someone to believe in you. Would having a manager help me gain traction and guide me on what to do? I love the practice of music, sitting at the piano with pen and paper, and I’d do it all day, every day if I could get paid for it. But the thought of running myself like a business, constantly chasing attention, kills me.

What does it actually take to prove yourself and earn a team that will support you and help you reach your goals? Money, sure, but how do you get to the point where people are willing to invest in you?

I'm going to shamefully link my insta here if anyone wants to check me out: instagram
