Actuary created a video game that uses stock market to balance

Hello - I've been a P&C actuary for over 20 years and a hobbyist gamedev for about 11 years. My first commercial release on Steam does something pretty innovative - the game auto-balances based on what players are purchasing in game.

I also decided to add a little side game where you can buy call/put options on minions and spells to bet on the direction they'll move over the next 24 hours.

Player reception has been really amazing and I wanted to share here. My guess is my crude implementation of options pricing won't live up to the scrutiny of experts in this subreddit, but happy to go into the gory details for anyone interested!

Released today - a PvP autobattler that uses a stock market to auto-balance

After three years of solo development, released my first commercial game.

Kind of feels hollow - may just need to take a nap.

The game is good, and has true innovation with the market-balancing system, but it's not on the path to commercial success (or recouping costs). I think I'll keep developing it though - I want to see the world grow and there are some truly dedicated (obsessive?) players that keep me excited.

Just so many confusing emotions right now.

I added derivatives to my PvP autobattler

I know that doesn't make much sense, but my game autobalances using a market system - the more players use a minion or spell, the more it goes up in price globally. So, why not have players be able to bet on the direction with 24-hour put or call contracts? This is the type of stuff that makes being indie fun - you can do weird stuff and nobody can tell you to stop wasting your time!

An online PvP autobattler that is perfectly imbalanced

Demo was released today while I rushed to the airport - I'll make a better post tomorrow but I think members in this subreddit will really like Flawed Tactics.

The most unique thing is the game auto-balances based on the global market. The more players play a minion or spell the more it will cost for all players - the meta is always shifting and understanding what is both a good value and a good synergy is key.

Lots of synergies, scaling (economy and power), and other really fun mechanics. The matchmaking is also quite innovative and happy to go into the details if anyone is interested.

Thanks for checking it out!

A PvP game that balances itself

Looking for more playtesters to join Flawed Tactics, an online PvP (async and live) where the prices of minions and spells change based on market demand. Think a minion is underpowered? Use it now before everyone else concludes the same and the price increases. If you're a fan of TFT, The Bazaar, Backpack Battles, Super Autopets, or any strategic PvP game then please give us a look. Thanks!

I created a PvP autobattler where the global economy balances the game - looking for playtesters on Steam (PC)

Game Title: Flawed Tactics

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2600970/Flawed_Tactics/

Platform: PC

Description: An online PvP autobattler where the prices of minions and spells change for all players based on market demand. If everyone is playing the Abduct spell then it will increase in cost. If nobody is playing the Cactus minion, it will drop in price. The synergies between different minions and spells are strong, but finding what is overpriced/underpriced is where the best players shine. Play in async PvP mode where you play against the ghosts of past players (similar to Backpack Battles, The Bazaar) or play in live PvP where you face the same opponent each round. Thank you for giving it a shot!!

Free to Play Status:

  • [X] Free to play (click "Join the Playtest"
  • [ ] Demo/Key available
  • [ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement: Solo dev with some talented contractors working on the 2D art and music.
