Scythe Chariots and civs

Hi everyone. I play mostly 1v1 death matches or 1v1 random maps. Depends on my previous experiences, to avoid being confined to gold, I began preferring Scythe Chariots in my civs. Along chariots, ballista towers and heavy catapults are also essential for me. Considering these, which civs do you advise to me?

Offensive approaching

I’ve been playing AOE1:DE since 8 months and my elo is close to 1000. Although my playing habits have been improved tangibly, I still hesitate to attack first even if I’m in Iron Age. How can I come through this timidity?

Same civs same strategy

I come across some rivals in aoe1:de 1v1 games and they have individual same strategy and they play with same civs. For instance one of them play with Chosons and always attack with Legions. No any other strategies or civs. There are more examples than him. I can’t understand why they use only one out of a lot of variations? Do you have any idea?

1v1 Legions

Every now and then, I play 1v1 on the Oasis map against a player I come across in AOE1:DE. His strategy is always the same, but I’ve never managed to beat him. While he defends his base with towers and Heleopolis, he constantly attacks with Legions. What strategy should I use?

Timetabling in my last game

I took screenshots during my last 1v1 multiplayer game in Mediterranean map. We started from Nomad and by 30th minutes I was still in tool age. Could you make some comments regarding my progress. Am I slow or not sufficiently fast? What would you recommend to me?

Greeks in AOE1:DE

I’ve been playing with Greeks since long time 1v1 multiplayer matches in AOE1:DE. I am struggling with them because I am not an expert of this game. The last time I played with Greeks my opponent was Egypt. In first 30 min of the game I had twice as many points as he did. I build my soldier buildings across his base and started to attacked. I destroyed his base but the map was highland and the size was big. So he escaped to the other edge of the map. My units was catapults, helepolises and centurions. He produced endless chariots and won the game in the end. I noticed that without gold Greeks are noting. He produced and attacked me all with chariots and than elephants. I took my another lesson by this game. You need to be sure that your opponent is not running to the another side of the map and you need some horses otherwise till you arrive to the new base of the rival, he would be produced 50 new chariots.

Transition from AOE1 to AOE2

Hi everyone. I’ve been playing AOE1:DE for 8 month. I have also AOE2:DE in my steam and since 2 months I’ve been playing just single player scenarios. I have never played AOE2 online yet. I want to understand first the dynamics of the game to begin multiplayer matches. What should I consider while in passing from AOE1 to AOE2? What are the biggest differences between these two games? The first I noticed AOE1 is more basic and faster than AOE2, and also has a simple interface.

Has anyone else experienced this at Belgium CVO?

I’m taking the online CVO 2.4 Schrijftelijk module in Belgium Flanders region.
Unfortunately, I failed the module because, according to my teacher, my grammar was not at the required level. I know my Dutch is far from perfect, and I accept that I still make grammar mistakes. However, I struggle to understand the fairness of the assessment.
Our online class had about 15 students, and only 3 of us failed. One of those students was mostly absent during the course. I attended more than 90% of the lessons, participated actively, completed my assignments, and even followed extra Dutch courses (Speaking and Grammar) at another campus during the same period.
What I find difficult to understand is not that I failed, but that many classmates who, in my opinion, made similar grammar mistakes still passed while only a very small number of students failed.
The teacher would not tell me how many students had passed because of privacy rules, so I asked several classmates individually after the results were published. Based on their answers, I learned that around 12 out of 15 students had passed.
Has anyone experienced something similar at CVO or another Dutch language school in Belgium? Did you ever feel that the assessment was inconsistent, or did you ask for a detailed explanation of your evaluation? I’m genuinely interested in hearing other people’s experiences.

Any networking or Dutch practice organizations around Antwerp Region?

Hi everyone. I’m a Non-EU job seeker industrial engineer with 8 years experience in my homeland and 1,5 years in Belgium. I’ve been living since 4 years in Antwerp Region. I attend Dutch courses since 3,5 years ana still trying to improve my language proficiency. I’m looking for ways to network with my colleagues and practice Dutch. An organization, a regular event or anything else you might recommend. The job market currently requires fluent Dutch and I’ve been getting rejections to my applications for over a year now. It seems without a fluent Dutch or an extensive network it’s impossible to be able to find a proper job.

How do you actually network in Dutch classes?

I’ve attended several Dutch courses at CVO over the past few years, hoping not only to improve my Dutch but also to meet new people and expand my professional network.
However, that hasn’t really happened. Most classmates have been unemployed newcomers, refugees (many from Ukraine), or blue-collar workers. I rarely met other white-collar professionals such as engineers, managers or office workers, and even during or after the courses there wasn’t much social interaction.
Has anyone else experienced the same? If you managed to build a social or professional network through language classes, how did you do it? Or are there better places in Belgium, especially close to Antwerp to meet other international professionals?

Is Finding an English-Speaking Job Harder?

Hi everyone. I’ve been living in Belgium since 3,5 years. I’m still seeking for a job since 1 year in supply chain and production environment as an industrial engineer. We came to Belgium together with my wife. I worked in two different companies in total 1,5 years in Belgium. Especially during last 2 years, all industry expect fluent or mother tongue level Dutch in addition to English. I’m writing this because I’m curious how many non-EU citizens in Belgium are in a similar situation.

Creating cutomized maps

Hi. I play AOE1:DE via Steam. I tried to create my own maps but unfortunately the AI does not act in the map. I tried every options and variations but my rivals’ villagers do not start farming or hunting. I left open all paths to the food sources but nothing changed. Is there a general problem on customized maps in AOE1?

Death Match in Highlands

Hi, I’m playing aoe:de since 6 months. I started playing online death matches since 2 months in highland map with full explored big map. I choose Assyrians because of their heavy catapults, helepolis and cataphracht. My manageable rival elo range is 900-1000. More than this ELO usually defeat me. My first question how can I prepare myself for a quick tower raid into my base? Because last night two of my rivals attacked me with their elephants and towers. I couldn’t repulsed them. The second question is if you take the first siege in your base, is that guarantee to lose the match or what should be the plan B? I always start building 4 tower centers, and then 10 home and then army buildings and towers. What should be the movement in very first 5 mins to be ready a tower and elephant/centurion?

Hi everyone. I,ve been playing AOE1:DE since january. I mostly play 1v1 nr30 in large Oasis map and beginning age is post iron age and the full tech tree. My win rate in 1v1 multiplayer games is still quite low for now. However, over the last 2–3 days, it has fortunately started to improve. I used to fall behind my opponents in terms of economy, and when they began attacking, I often didn’t have an army ready to respond.

Recently, I have slightly improved my strategy. The last game I won lasted about 50 minutes. I’d like to share some details from that match and ask for your suggestions.

I usually start the game in the post-Iron Age, meaning the full tech tree is already available. So the focus is only on building the economy and producing military units. In the first 5 minutes, I build around 6–7 Town Centers and continuously produce villagers. Then, I divide the map into two halves by building walls and towers on both sides. After that, I construct only Stables and Siege Workshops close to these walls and towers.

I try to build up armies on both sides so that I can launch attacks from two directions. The units I produce are Cavalry, Elephants, Heavy Catapults, and Helepolises. In my last game, at the 30-minute mark, I had 95 villagers while my opponent had 70. Our scores were roughly the same.

My opponent started the attack using catapults, and I responded with my own catapults. Then I broke through the walls and sent cavalry to target his catapults, but he also had towers defending them. So I pushed forward with my own catapults. In the past, I wasn’t producing units continuously and I kept losing. Now, as soon as my gold runs out, I immediately switch to producing Scythe Chariots using food and wood without stopping.

Unlike me, my opponent had ranged units and Centurions, and he kept them positioned behind his towers. I attacked the towers with catapults while protecting my siege units with cavalry. He countered with Centurions, and after a long back-and-forth of attacks and defenses, I eventually won—but it took quite a long time.

In this kind of scenario, what would your tactics be to win faster? What would you recommend?

Hi everyone. I started AOE universe via AOE1:DE and since January I’m playing online 1v1 matches. I almost made 100 Oasis map 1v1 but I lost almost %90 of them. First reason I am not fast as my rivals. I play always no rush 30 min. Nonetheless, I can not be ready neither for attack nor for defense my base. I use full of tech tree so no any advantage of civ. Specific to Oasis maps, what strategies do you prefer/advice? For instance I always build walls bot sides and slide the maps into two pieces to avoid access of my rival to the sources close to my base. I can not decide which units I should produce most.
