In the process of building my own direction EMF mic (using a photodiode) and set about designing a mic clip for it today. Experimenting with using a ball and socket joint and it came out great! Still a little more chunky than I’d like. Just need to work out a threaded insert for the underside.
Sound Modulated Light is an environment of light and sound wherein sound is not present acoustically, but is carried by light. The space consists of a design of multiple lights. Each light bulb has its own soundtrack assigned to it. The sound is modulated on top of the light by means of intensity modulation. Low audio frequencies result in a visible flickering of the lights. Higher audio frequencies result in a flickering that is too fast to be perceived by our eyes.

Theres a really simple experiment at the end using a plastic cup, plastic foil, solar panel and small amplifier, which i'm really keen to share with some of the youth music groups I work with.
Here’s a recording I made with my photon smasher microphone of some lighting fixtures in Southend on sea, Essex (England). I was totally blown away when I heard the sound from the mic. I’ve added a little EQ and reverb in post, but that’s all.
What you can hear is the PWM of the slowly fading LEDs - probably my favourite field recording (so far at least).

The fan blade has holes from the centre to the edge. As he shines light through it (with his right hand) it’s collected by a sensor behind the blade. He changes pitch by choosing different holes - the further from the centre the faster the speed of rotation, giving a high frequency. Simple but very effective.

Using my Photon Smasher microphone to uncover the drones and tones of theme park lighting!
Perhaps more trippy in sound than visuals? Here I’m Uusing bicycle lights shined at a pair of my Photon Smasher microphones and feeding the sound into guitar pedals for some beautiful drones and delays.
Using a solar panel mic to listen to the LED and neon lights of Tokyo 🇯🇵
In this setup I’m strobing an LED at audio rate and “listening” via the solar cell (crocodile clipped to a small amp). In between that I’ve got a fan blade modulating the light for some fun amplitude modulation - although it does get up into audio rate modulation too!
