Squatting post op?

I am 1 week post op (open mesh with 25 tacks). Is it ok to squat down to get things down low (Asian squat style, knees bent, but low). It doesn’t hurt too much to do so and I can’t figure out how to pick things up without pain otherwise. It seems like it mainly uses leg muscles I feel like, not so much abs…

Are there vegetables that prefer more water as opposed to less?

I ask because I have some lush leafy zucchini plants and the fruit aren’t really growing very big. A shared garden neighbor with massive zukes on similar sized plants told me they need a lot of water to produce bigger fruit.

I have the following plants. Do any of them need especially more water for bigger fruit. Do any prefer less water?

Cucumbers (plants are getting huge, just started flowering a lot, producing first fruit)

Tomatoes (they are out of control big, just started flowering a lot and producing first fruit)

Zucchinis (tons of little zukes that hardly develop)

Tomatillos (plants growing very slowly)

Bell peppers (plants growing very slowly)

Hot peppers (don’t remember variety, growing very slowly)

Kale

Watermelon (doing well, I’m watering a lot)

Strawberries (sad, I didn’t water enough and they have hardly grown)

Isaac bashevis singer question

I am looking for some particular short stories of his that I read in a collection years ago. One that really stood out was a village party that turned into a sort of demon orgy, and in general I love the darker stories with fiendish and diabolical deception, chimeras and the likes. Of course I also enjoy the general old polish village vibes. I just read “Gimpel the fool and other stories” and I couldn’t put it down.

So yeah, if anyone knows where I can find that specific demon orgy…

What to ice after inguinal surgery?

Just had inguinal open mesh surgery with tacks today. I saw a video recommending icing and it is possible the doctor mentioned it post op but I was pretty out of it at the time due to meds. Do I only ice the incision site (over the bandages of course) or do I ice my genital region as well?

Thanks!

Let dog hang out in sun during heat wave?

Here in France we have a short haired (and stomach-bald) street dog from Martinique. She is loving the heat waves we are having and she is loafing for long parts of the day in the sun or under the hot veranda. It will be 33-35 Celsius these next few days. She has water and she is only outside when one of us is inside. She’s fine, right? This is just dogs being dogs? I mean, this is surely less hot than her first few years in the tropics…

Bolting lettuce

Why did all my lettuces go straight to seed this year? They grew about this size in the photo and then bolted (as the top right one is doing). They were planted from different batches of starters in various places in my garden plot. Other plants nearby seem to be happy.

Can I use any leather cream on my iron rangers?

I was about to apply my mink oil that I was given with my boots, but I don’t want to darken the leather too much. Will any non-redwing brand neutral or colored shoe cream (the right color, of course) do the trick or do I just have to accept a yearly darkening of my boots?

Also I never use conditioner, how important is it?

Stomach problems on rotuvastatin—do they go away?

I took atorvastatin for 5 years ago for extremely high LDL (my body’s compensatory mechanism for having almost 0 albumin—I am lean with a very healthy wfpb diet, low fat) and suddenly I had debilitating muscle pain for months on end so I stopped.

I started etizimibes a few months ago and had a week of stomach discomfort before it calmed down (I was told that might happen). My doctor just added in rotuvastatin in the mix and I’ve been up nights with stomach cramps. Is it like with etizimibes, will my body get used to it?

Since the match group destroyed dating apps, why doesn’t someone make one that works?

I used to use okcupid and it was frickin awesome. I had a very long profile and I answered 1000+ questions (often with written responses). As a result when I went on it I almost exclusively contacted 98-99% matches whose long profiles I liked and the connection was often immediate. Over 15 years I had many successful relationships, sex partners and friendships from that app and I am now married with a woman who I met there just before the match group bought them.

From what I understand the match group owns lots of apps and makes them crappy on purpose so that users keep coming back to pay for their services. They did this to okcupid apparently, because the original model worked too well and they lost too many “costumers”. I recently convinced a friend to make an okcupid profile for him and I was amazed at how bad it has become. He (an incredible sweet and caring man, a real catch who wants more than anything to start a family) told me all apps are like this, and he struggles just like most people nowadays.

So I guess I have multiple questions. First off is a successful dating app like okcupid bound to tank financially because of the user base diminishing as people find love and leave the app? Did okcupid sell out because of greed or because they would have gone under if they didn’t?

Why doesn’t someone just create a good app again? Is it really that hard to code a dating app? I know you need a support team but honestly that was OkCupid’s weakest point and I got over that pretty quickly.

Couldn’t a dating app be opensource? Nonprofit? Government sponsored? That is, created without the incentive of making the most money possible?

Poop question

I have been eating high fiber for 3 years after reading fiber fueled. In the beginning I didn’t care about going slow, I went all out, had uncontrollable farts for two months (it was really funny tbh), then it all settled down. Except…

I still have very messy poops. I need to use a bidet every time, and without going into details, it isn’t simple. Every once in a while I will eat white pasta, white rice or a baguette, and my poop becomes “clean” again for a day. But the rest of the time it’s a war zone down there.

I don’t know if this is because of my new diet or because of a bowel disease I may or may not have (inconclusive results with GI specialists), which is why I am asking you if this is your experience.

For info I eat several servings of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, whole wheat bread, lots of lentils, some beans, eggs, vegan protein powder, and no dairy or meat. I probably get about 30-40g fiber a day, but I don’t calculate.

Microwave started heating bowls, not food

Our microwave worked great for a long time but recently it has started heating bowls that it didn’t heat before. They are so hot I use oven mitts to take the bowls out. No settings have been changed. Is it time to get a new one?

Can I guide a watermelon to a certain part of the garden?

Like when the vine is still young can I give a direction to make sure it goes to the right part of the garden?

Also can it grow on an active compost or will that burn it? I always see pumpkins growing out of compost piles…

We are redoing some wood cladding (don’t know if that is the word but doesn’t matter) using light pine wood and we want it to be approximately this color and sheen. That is, darker but not at all shiny. Would basic walnut stain (brou de noix) get us close to this?

I spent a few hours cutting bamboo to make tomato stakes last year. All my tomato plants were rotten by October and I just left the whole mess in place until now. Is it a bad idea to reuse these bamboo structures again this year?

Pictured here are the new plants with the structures set up but I can take them out and make new ones with bamboo. It’s just extra work.

EDIT:

I am asking about mold/mildew issues, not about sturdiness. They are def sturdy enough this year and these are cherry tomatoes anyways.

My friend is a high level professional jazz guitarist, regularly headlining festivals in the style he plays in, but he doesn’t know how to read music.

He has a lot of free time when he’s not performing because he doesn’t really need to practice very much (yes it’s infuriating). So he has finally decided to learn to read.

He is learning by reading progressively harder music on note names in rhythm using classic European style solfège books. He does some reading with his instrument as well. He has trouble singing the notes because he has no vocal technique and quickly goes hoarse.

He is wondering if there are other things he can do to make the process more varied and interesting. Please inform!
