(2011 Honda CR-V 2.4L) Looking for a mechanic in Milford, CT for a second opinion before I buy an engine.

I'm looking for an experienced mechanic, preferably someone familiar with Honda/K-series engines, in the Milford/New Haven, CT area who might be willing to come out and inspect my 2011 Honda CR-V EX-L 4WD.

The car currently cranks but won't start, and I'm homeless and stranded. I've already had someone look at it, and I have diagnostic codes and compression-test results for 2 cylinders, but I don't want to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on an engine replacement until I know for sure what's actually wrong.

Here's what I know so far:

2011 Honda CR-V EX-L 4WD
2.4L K24 engine
240,000+ miles
Engine cranks normally but won't start
It occasionally sputters/tries to start
Cylinder #2 compression: 60 PSI
Cylinder #3 compression: 130 PSI
A small amount of coolant was found in the cylinders
Misfire codes were present
Radiator was recently replaced
Alternator was recently replaced
I've been told the engine may have a blown head gasket and/or internal damage, but I want that diagnosis independently confirmed before I spend money on an engine
The battery is currently dead and only needs to be charged; it does not need to be replaced

I don't want to buy an engine and pay for an engine swap if the diagnosis is wrong, if the existing engine can reasonably be repaired, or if there is another issue causing the no-start condition.

What I'm looking for:

I'd really appreciate an experienced mechanic who could come to where the vehicle is currently located, inspect it, and perform whatever diagnostic checks are appropriate to determine what's actually going on.

I'm primarily looking for an honest answer to:

1. Is the engine actually bad?
2. Is a replacement engine really necessary?
3. If it does need an engine, is replacing it worthwhile on this particular CR-V?

I'm willing to pay for your time and diagnostic work. I'm not asking anyone to repair the car for free; I just want to make sure I make the right decision before putting money into it.

I'm currently in the Milford, CT area. If you're a mechanic, Honda/K-series enthusiast, or know someone nearby who might be willing to take a look, please comment or DM me.

I can provide the diagnostic codes and photos of what the car is doing.

I'd really appreciate any help or recommendations. Thank you!

Homeless, Living in My Car, and Now Stranded After Major Engine Failure.

I never thought I’d be making a post like this, but I’ve run out of options.

I’ve been living out of my 2011 Honda CR-V since October while trying to get back on my feet. I had recently started doing delivery work, and for the first time in a while, it felt like I was making progress. Then my car broke down on I-95, and everything came to a stop.

To make matters worse, my wallet was stolen, so I’ve also been trying to replace my driver’s license and other important documents while dealing with all of this.
I reached out to 211 and other local resources for help, but without a working vehicle, I haven’t been able to access many of the services they referred me to.
After weeks of overheating problems, the car was inspected. The compression test showed only 60 PSI in cylinder 2, and coolant was getting into the cylinder, plus misfiring in multiple cylinders. I was told the engine has a blown head gasket with major internal damage and needs to be repaired or replaced. The car won’t even start anymore.

Right now I’m stranded in Milford, Connecticut. My car isn’t just transportation, it’s also where I’ve been living and the only way I had to earn an income. Losing it has affected every part of my life at once.

I started a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of getting the car back on the road, along with related expenses while I work through this situation. My goal is simple: get mobile again, get back to work, and start supporting myself instead of relying on the kindness of others.
I’ve included photos of the diagnostic codes, the vehicle, and what I’m dealing with because I want to be completely transparent. I know there are a lot of people asking for help online, and I want people to be able to see that this is a real situation.

GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/fc3d9b58a

If you’re able to donate, thank you. If not, sharing my fundraiser would mean just as much.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story.

Homeless and stranded on I-95 South in Milford, CT. Looking for advice on accessing resources without transportation.

I’m posting here because I’m trying to figure out what options I have in Connecticut and I’m hoping someone familiar with local resources may have advice before I go insane.

I've been homeless and living in my vehicle since October. Recently, my vehicle stopped running while I was on I-95 South in Milford, CT, which has left me without transportation and without the only shelter I had. My biggest challenge right now is that I’m not mobile, so even when I find resources, I’m having trouble physically getting to them.

I contacted 211 and explained my situation. They provided me with several organizations and resources, including shelters, drop-in centers, and outreach programs. I've started reaching out to those organizations, but many of the services require me to be able to travel to their locations.

Right now I’m struggling with basic needs:

  • I don’t have regular access to showers, hygiene supplies, or a place to take care of basic necessities.
  • Food has become difficult because I currently have no income and limited ways to access resources.
  • My wallet was stolen, including my ID, bank cards, and important documents.
  • I have SNAP benefits but cannot access them because I do not have my EBT card and I don’t have a reliable mailing address for a replacement.
  • I’m trying to replace my documents and get back into the workforce.
  • I have a storage unit with my belongings that I’m trying not to lose.
  • My phone service is also at risk of being disconnected, which makes contacting employers and resources harder.

I’m not posting this to ask for donations. I’m looking for advice from people who know Connecticut resources, especially around Milford/New Haven, or anyone who has experience navigating homelessness when transportation is a major barrier.

Are there any outreach programs, organizations, transportation options, or resources in Connecticut that specifically help people who are homeless but unable to physically get to services?

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Homeless, stranded in my vehicle, and trying to figure out my next stepsHomeless, stranded in my vehicle, and trying to figure out my next steps.

I’ve been homeless and living in my vehicle since October, and I’m trying to figure out what my next steps should be because I’ve reached a point where I feel completely stuck.

I’m currently in Connecticut, and my vehicle recently stopped running while I was living out of it. Losing my vehicle has been rough asf because it wasn't only my transportation, but also the place I was living. My biggest problem right now is that I’m not mobile, so even when I find resources, I’m struggling with how to physically access them.

I contacted 211 and explained my situation. They gave me with several resources, including shelters, drop-in centers, and outreach programs. I've been reaching out to those organizations, but the biggest barrier remains the same: most services require me to get to them, and I currently have no transportation.

Because I’m stranded, I’m struggling with basic daily needs. I don’t have regular access to showers, hygiene supplies, or a place to take care of basic necessities. Food has also become a serious issue because I currently have no money and limited ways to access resources.

On top of that:

  • My wallet was stolen, including my ID, bank cards, and important documents.
  • I have SNAP benefits, but I can't access them because I don’t have my EBT card and I don’t have a reliable mailing address for a replacement.
  • I’m trying to replace my documents so I can get back into the workforce.
  • I have a storage unit with my belongings that I’m trying not to lose.
  • My phone service is at risk of being disconnected, which would make contacting jobs and resources even harder.

I’m not posting this to ask for money or donations. I’m hoping to hear from people who have experienced homelessness or been in a similar situation and can offer advice.

For anyone who has been homeless while living in a vehicle, without transportation, or without access to basic resources: what helped you get unstuck? How did you handle getting documents, accessing benefits, finding shelter, or getting connected with outreach when you couldn’t physically get anywhere?

Any advice or insight from people who've been through this would mean a lot.

Suicide doesn’t sound so bad or selfish to me right now.

I’ve been past my breaking point for quite some time.. Ever since I moved from FL to CT my life has been spiraling downhill in the worst way. Got laid off in October, and have been trying to find another job ever since, ended up being homeless. No family or friends, to help or speak to. I’m about to lose everything in my storage and my phone will eventually be turned off. My trauma has been stuck on overload. I’ve tried anything that can come to your mind to help myself for all these months and nothing has worked for me. Now to top it off my car’s ignition coils went bad, causing misfires which eventually caused my car to not start at all. So I’ve been stranded at a service plaza on a highway for so long, with nothing but a broken car as a roof over my head. Everyday puts my mental in a deeper hole of survival mood. Finding food feels like a battle. Every day I’ve woken up in my car since being homeless, the first thing that’s been on my mind is just walking the middle of the highway and saying fuck it. I’m tired of trying, I’m tired of people talking to me like they understand or being there in the fakest way. I’m tired of trying to stay afloat in a life where nothing makes me feel alive. I don’t love myself and I have no desires to keep living anymore. I fear this is the month I lose it all, including what’s left of my sanity. I can’t fight these demons anymore. Death can have me when it earns me, and it’s done more of a job than I have in this current life I’ve been trying to live.

NEED HELP GETTING MY CAR RUNNING SO I CAN GET BACK TO WORK.

I’m in a situation where I’ve been trying to solve this on my own, but I’ve reached a point where I need some help getting over this huge setback. I've been trying to get back on my feet after losing my job. I’ve been staying in my 2011 Honda CR-V at a service plaza in Milford, CT, and my only way to earn income recently stopped working.

My car developed a severe misfire and now it cranks but won’t turn over to start. After troubleshooting and getting my car scanned, the issue is all 4 of my ignition coils. I’m trying to raise about $200 to replace the coils and get the car running again so I can return to delivery work and continue applying for jobs. I told my personal mechanic my situation, and he says he would charge me $100 for labor. I also don't have the tools to do the job myself either.

I’m not trying to fix everything at once, I’m just currently trying to get my car working again so I can start earning and move forward.

My wallet was also stolen, which has made things reallly harder because I’m currently trying to replace my license, Social Security card, and bank cards. I’ve cut my expenses down as much as possible. My phone and storage unit are the main things I’m trying to keep current because my phone is how I apply for work and stay reachable.

If anyone can help with the repair, share this post, or point me toward Connecticut resources that could help someone in my situation, I would truly appreciate it. Even advice or a lead on a mechanic who can help would mean a lot. I can provide whatever proof is needed for anyone who is skeptical for any reason.

Homeless and Stranded!

My name is Akeem, and I’m asking for help because I’ve reached one of the lowest points of my life. Since losing my job in October, I’ve been homeless and living out of my car at a rest stop on I95 South in Milford, CT. For months, my car has been my bedroom, my shelter, and the only place I have to call home. I’ve endured freezing nights, unbearable heat, hunger, dehydration, and long stretches without being able to shower or take care of even the most basic needs.
As if that wasn’t enough, my wallet was stolen, taking my driver’s license, Social Security card, bank cards, and the few important documents I had left. Losing those wasn’t just an inconvenience, it made an already impossible situation even harder. Without them, accessing resources, replacing my identity, and getting back to work has become an overwhelming challenge.
Now, the one thing that was keeping me alive (my car) has failed me too. It won’t start because of engine coil misfires, leaving me completely stranded. My car isn’t just transportation; it’s my only shelter. Without it, I have nowhere to sleep, no reliable way to get food, no way to get to interviews, and no way to earn money. Every day that it sits broken is another day I’m trapped with no way forward.
I’ve been applying for jobs constantly and doing everything I can to change my situation, but nothing has come through yet. I don’t have family or friends who are able to help me. I’m fighting every day to hold onto hope or just to eat, but it’s becoming harder as each day passes.
I’m asking for help to repair my car so I can get back on the road and start working with Grubhub to earn an income. Any support will also help me replace my stolen identification and documents, buy food and water, and find safer shelter while I continue searching for stable employment.
