X Games is dead

I just watched the first 5 minutes of the Men’s Skate Street Full Competition. It opened up with a shot of the competition area and I immediately thought “that’s it?!”

Then I saw drone shots of the crowd. Good lord, none of those people can see shit. What a shame. Bleachers could have done wonders for ticket buyers.

Then shortly after that, all the commentators sound terrible. The host is carrying, the analyst I can barely hear, then the sideline reporter is trying to talk and she keeps getting spoken over.

Anyways, I miss the old X Games. I feel bad for ticket buyers even more. I wish we could go back in time and cherish it more while we had it.

AITAH for calling out this AirBnb Host?

For the record, I use AirBnb as a guest at least once a year and have been a member since 2020. I have a handful of 5-star reviews from multiple hosts for being a very clean and communicative guest. This includes solo travel and multiple guest travel.

I went to complete a booking for myself and my family, and the booking was followed up by the typical, automated direct message from the Host asking a couple basic questions. I usually don’t mind these and always answer them super friendly. Further upon reading the questions however, I was asked if I would sign a rental agreement, and provide photo identification for all my family members. To make sure I was not crazy, I re-read the listing four times, and not once is a rental agreement mentioned in the listing when booking this AirBnb.

The conversation with the host (or management company I’m assuming) proceeded to go as follows:

Me: Hi, with all due respect, I am going to have to cancel this reservation because of the rental agreement. That was not disclosed in the booking description. I do not feel comfortable signing anything, nor do I feel comfortable asking my family members to provide their ID’s for this. I travel a lot for work between hotels and Airbnb’s, and this is a bit invasive to ask as a customer. Maybe things are different in your state, I don’t know, but I just want to be respectfully honest here. Thank you for your time and understanding.

Host: We feel that’s best as we run our properties like hotel and if someone isn’t comfortable with providing what would be needed in a hotel then we don’t want to host them. It’s too much of a liability for us and your explanation is really not needed or desired. For us invasive is expecting us to rent you our clients home without knowing your intentions or identifying yourself. Luckily for us in hundreds of bookings this is the first complaint yet so for clarity we aren’t losing a booking that we would want in our properties- we aren’t a fit and that’s ok. You can rescind your request.

Me: Sounds great! Thank you for that rude and defensive comment. I will book a 4-star hotel for free with the amount of travel points I have. Was just trying to do a favor for my family here. Please cancel this reservation and take care!

Host: Not at all rude. Just direct and I’m sorry you don’t value that but let’s stop wasting each others time. Your message was entitled and unnecessary when you can easily just retract it. We manage properties throughout the area and I’m really not even remotely interested in your opinions or passive aggressive communication disguised as help. Thank you.

I was then blocked. Reservation was also cancelled by me in the process. Thankfully I didn’t provide any payment yet and it was still fully refundable.

Am I in the wrong here? I have never been asked to sign a rental agreement by an AirBnB Host, nor have I ever been blind sided by one that was never mentioned in the original listing. I thought AirBnb takes care of everything in their fine print or terms of service when you agree to use their service? And even IF my family caused property damage, I still claim all fault for repairs as the person who booked the reservation. This was a 3 bedroom booking for 5 people.

I may have gotten too personally invested in my replies, but the lack of professionalism on those replies was a bit of a take back for me. Not to mention, this rental is only booked for the remainder of this month. It has infinite availability right now, so I’m not sure where those “hundreds” of bookings are coming from. I’m going to book two hotel rooms with points and carry on like I said I would, where only the front desk person will ask to see my ID.
