My first turntable! A gift from a former boss!

I worked for a federal agency as a contractor for a majority of my career. If you check my profile, you'll easily see where. While technically, she wasn't my boss, a civil servant that I worked closely with retired and is moving back to her home state. She's leaving most of her personal belongings behind. When I was at her home to get a desk, I saw this turntable, and she said I could have it. Now I need to make sure it works and buy a vinyl record or two.

My first turntable! A gift from an old boss.

One of my former bosses retired and is moving. She gave this to me, and I thought you would all enjoy the find.

How long does it take for Obsidian support to respond? I'm trying to give them money!

I reached out to Obsidian support Monday morning because I'm having difficulties receiving a verification email. I've emailed them twice, and on the chance that their emails are getting blocked by a filter, the second email copied one of my alternate email addresses. How long does it usually take for them to respond?

Alternatively, what's a good method of cross platform synchronization (macOS, Win 11, and iOS)?

Trade-In Event 15.4 — Turns out I can't read a ship list (revised plan)

So apparently I had some serious wishful thinking in my previous post — Georgia and Alaska aren't on the acquirable list. Hold on for a moment where I learn to read and install a critical thinking module . . . Ok. Back to the drawing board.

Here's the actual acquirable list for 15.4:

Incheon, Monmouth, Seal, Giuseppe Verdi, Sun Yat-Sen, Velos, Minegumo, Dalian, Karl XIV Johan, Loyang, Vanguard, Atago, Mainz, Kaga, I-56, Brandenburg, Scharnhorst, Leningrad, Weimar, Sims, Indianapolis, Atlanta, W. Virginia '44, De Grasse, P. E. Friedrich, London, Dunkerque, Béarn, K. Schönberg, Okhotnik, Exeter, Texas, Murmansk, Siroco, Agincourt

My playstyle is American battleships and German heavy cruisers — I run Bremen and Hawaii at T10 and enjoy ships that hit hard. Given that, the ships that interest me from the actual list are:

  • Mainz (T8 German CL) — was already on my radar before I got distracted by ships that aren't even available
  • Brandenburg (T8 German BB) — fits my German secondary playstyle
  • W. Virginia '44 (T7 BB) — American, fits the gun feel I like
  • Vanguard (T8 BB) — not American or German but I've heard good things

Still planning two trades. Napoli is a coal ship so low risk to trade away. Tulsa is also coal. Looking for input on which targets make the most sense given the actual list.

My eligible trade-away ships:

Tier X: Napoli

Tier IX: Minegumo, Tulsa, Kearsarge, Navarin, Dalian

Tier VIII: Kaga, San Diego, Alabama, P. Bagration, Indomitable

Edit: Full port list for reference

Tier X: Laffey, Hawaii, Rhode Island B, Bremen, Von Zuckerhoff, Napoli, Lushun B

Tier IX: Minegumo, Suzuya, Johnston, GQ Johnny, Tulsa, Kearsarge, Indiana, Navarin, AL Marco Polo, Pilus Prior, Dalian

Tier VIII: Kaga, San Diego, Bridgeport, Alabama, Massachusetts B, Hornet, Saipan B, P. Bagration, Wiesbaden, AL Cheshire, Indomitable, Piñatian

Tier VII: E. Dragon, Boise, Indianapolis, Tashkent '39, Arkhangelsk, München, München B, Nürnberg '44, Weimar, Scharnhorst, Scharnhorst '43, Rodney, Toulon, Strasbourg, Fiume, AL Gorizia, F. Ferruccio, Optio, Lanzhou

Tier VI: Shinonome B, Ise, P. E. Friedrich, London, Montcalm, Xin Zhong Guo 14, Elli

Tier III: Dreadnought

Edit: I ended up choosing Incheon, Sun Hat-Sen, and Mainz. I wanted to grab Karl XIV Johan, but I'll have to acquire her some other time.

Bought my first guitar in 5 years and somehow came out ahead

It took 5 years, but I finally bought a guitar!

I walked into Guitar Center Saturday and this Ibanez Artcore AG95 caught my eye. It was beautiful. I decided not to buy it that day and slept on it, but I just couldn't get it off my mind.

After a stressful lunch and much internal deliberation, I went back and picked it up. Since it was used, I was able to haggle a little. Instead of coming down on price, I got them to throw in a soft shell case and a strap. I wanted a hardshell case, but the sales rep wouldn't budge. Then as we're checking out, he reviews the inventory and discovers it actually comes with a hardshell case. So instead of the soft shell, he throws in a guitar stand. Score!

Unfortunately I didn't catch a defect in the store, but when I got home and started doing finger exercises, I noticed buzzing starting at the 15th fret. After investigation, the culprit turned out to be the 17th fret lifting from the fretboard.

I went back today and told them I wanted to keep the guitar but wanted them to cover the repair. The manager said he couldn't do that, but the repair was only $45, and he refunded me $75 from the purchase price for my trouble. So the repair was effectively free and I came out $30 ahead.

For $470 total, I got a beautiful Ibanez AG95, a hardshell case, a strap, and a stand. The repair required restringing, so I also got fresh strings and the action set lower. I think I came out ahead, and I'm stoked to have a guitar again.

P.S. For anyone curious, this all started with a Reddit post I made five years ago asking about thin necks.
