Want to write a book on NVLD, where do I start?

Knowing how little awareness this disorder has, I want to write a book on NVLD. It would serve as a message from those (including myself) with NVLD to their family, friends, teachers, coworkers, doctors etc to demonstrate what life is like with this learning disability. And how it's distinctly different from autism and ADHD. So many people seem to think and even argue it is autism especially, and I want to offer a perspective on why it's not.

My journalism background could be beneficial to this too possibly. I just want to see more of a push toward bringing this to light and on the table in medical conversation. So what are people's thoughts on this? How would I go about writing this?

News outlet Facebook comments: are they usually volatile?

Are facebook commenters usually brutal?

Is it normal for comments on your news outlets' facebook posts to be incredibly volatile and nasty?

For background, I work at a local broadcasting station in a small city, but not in a "red" state. I feel like so many of our posts are filled with an insane amount of rage for a simple story, and they're usually all older people of course.

Even our usual posts about weather get quite a bit of anger, so I'm not shocked that when I made a facebook post about my story relating to a local disability community related event facebookers were talking about wanting straight up white supremacy, and calling all of the city "mentally disabled" etc. I do know this is part of the job. It's normal to hear from angry, hateful people. But I'm genuinley just curious why it's always Facebook.

Part of me also worries there's more hate in saturated this city of 120k than I thought too, and it makes me question my safety. Maybe someone can assure me the comments we get on the job aren't a reflection of most normal people?

Not even other neurodiverse people get it.

I'm a journalist/producer with NVLD and autism its the one job that felt right for most of my life. It was always the one thing i felt like i could do and be GOOD at, so i held onto it with my dear life. Enter the professional world, and I'm useless and "stupid" again. I got fired as a freelancer for constantly needing verbal confirmation to get my work done. And not even my autistic coworkers could understand what was wrong with me, everyone just assumes I'm stupid instead of giving me a chance.

My autistic mentor was frustrated and disappointed in me until I told her why I kept getting directions wrong. My previous editor, also autistic said she doesn't know what my problem is either and that I'm "untrainable". And then proceeded to send me a bunch of ADHD resources which bingo! Have not been helpful!

I hate how much extra I need from others just to be NORMAL. I only ever seem to understand life normally when I'm talking to process it. Yes, I have a high verbal IQ but I'm stunted in every other regard. And to be told you're a defunct that will never go beyond retail even by other autistic people is the most dehumanizing, alienating experience of all.

I did find a job as a producer after being fired previously, but with how slow i am I don't think i can ever be a full time reporter again. I don't know what it takes to be seen as a competent capable person in this society. I don't want to constantly be explaining to people this foreign, ugly way of learning anymore. I just want to fit in.

I made a terrible mistake in reporting

I mixed up a source's phone number with my landlord's. They coincidentally had similar numbers, and my car was broken into last night so I had an immediate panicked reaction to let my landlord know. I was looking at the mess in my car at the same time, so I immediately thought was him when it was the person I'm interviewing later today.

I feel like an idiot. I totally blew it because it was a very panicked text, detailing what stuff was stolen and how my wallet was safe. I hope my source understands. I apologized this morning profusely to him.

When to quit and move on?

I work for deathstar for a wage of $17/hr before taxes, and I'm just not sure when enough is enough and I find a job that pays me more comfortably. I've been here for four months as a digital producer, after struggling to find something for nearly a year after budget cuts laid me off from an NPR starion.

Things were manageable when I had medicaid and SNAP before trumps big beautiful bull, and now I'm just stumped. Half my coworkers live with their parents well into their early 30s or they have a wealthier spouse/partner to sustain them. I'm autistic/adhd and can feel the burnout sinking into me. The goal was to shoot to be an actual reporter again but my body and mind are so exhausted that I don't know how I'd write 4 stories a week anymore let alone one....i used to love the craft and was willing to settle for a lower pay for it but at this point, I'd rather move back home. It feels so pointless.

As bad as this sounds, working more jobs on the side this careers pay doesn't feel worth it. I'm not special for complaining about that, I know. One job alone for me is already a choice between working and having leftover energy to take care of myself. I was once a disability reporter that thrived on making new ideas constantly with stories, and now I'm just an extra warm body that can't even come up with much extra due to ny chronic exhaustion.

I like my coworkers, I'm thankful we have a union, and I'm finally getting used to where I live but the pay just isn't feasible long term. I live 2 hours from family so they stock me up on basic essentials thankfully. But right now, I'm even questioning if i can out right leave the country and take a break from the industry by teaching abroad.

Afraid I'll never be taken seriously

Sometimes I (24 FtMt?) will never be taken seriously because of my androgyny. I recently realized a major reason for why I became a trans man was because of how in school I just be friends with everyone without being seen as dating every boy I hang out with.

Feminity rejected me as an autistic person that was built more masculine looking too (tall, lanky) I thought maybe I just was a man. And now Ive found a middle ground where I've leaned into my androgyny. I feel attractive for once in my life.

But this self expression i like doesn't attract who I like (men sadly) enough for them to take me seriously. I've had two relationships, and I can't help but get sad knowing they probably would all just choose a pretty conforming girl over me.

I feel like the only way I could attract the kind of people I'm attracted to would be if I was a conventionally attractive 100% cis woman. Right now I worry no matter how hard I try to find the right love they'll get sick if me and leave because I'm not cis at this moment.

I'd rather die instead of being a slave the rest of my life

I forced my way into a top school, earned the best grades I could all while being burnt out a vomiting through it, and what did that get me? A $17/hr job BEFORE TAXES and $120k in student debt.

I was told it would pay off. My "affordable payment plan" for student loans (private) is about to end (going from $90 to $700 a month), and nothing about my income has changed. I'm livid. I don't want to give them anything. I don't feel like these paychecks that I make myself get sick to earn deserve to go to these evil corpos. I want to leave the country, but I also don't want to leave my loved ones. I'm scared I'll never find friends or a partner if I leave.

I am only able to surivive from the generosity and kindness of other people in my life. I'm classified as a "professional" but relied on SNAP and medicaid before the big beautiful bill took it all. I have no healthcare now and I get food from friends and the food bank.

All I want is a way out. A way to not comply and kiss their asses. I am so delusional. But I just can't bring myself to pay, even if it makes me a criminal. All I wanted to do in life was pursue something I enjoyed, I worked really hard with the promise it would pay off, and it never did.

And the others get jobs that pay more in my field without even trying. I don't get it. I spent 8 months finding this one alone. I'm tired, I'm sick, I miss out on so much that makes life beautiful. I don't see a point in living if I can't enjoy life either. I didn't want to waste my 20s, the peak of my youth, being a slave. Especially after how my childhood was robbed of me.

On the fringe of leaving the industry. Is it too soon?

I’m loosing my motivation to stay in journalism. Is it me? Or the state of things right now?

I’m a news producer at a local TV station in a smaller rust belt city.

With my low salarly, prices skyrocketing, and moving 1,800 miles away from most of my friends, family, and partner I'm becoming jaded. I used to love the craft, my dream was investigative reporting. Or doing correspondency between the US and Canada. But now I think I resent it. I don't have any motivation to do any stories/reporting when I get the chance now, I just do my basic tasks of writing up press releases, etc. And not to mention I don't have the harsh backbone other reporters always seem to have. I'm too soft.

I'm saddled with guilt knowing I spent 8 months trying to land this role, and that I sacraficed much of my financial future by taking out loans to go to a competitive journalism school after starting in community college. I cared about this career alot and loved it.

I have all sorts of ideas of pivoting. My need for community, or having a more comfortable/flexible life is overriding my desire to stay in this field more and more. But maybe I'm just depressed with how the world is now, and I need to hang tight.

▲ 1 r/BPD

Posting on here because I want to learn how to be more supportive of my partner...from those who also have BPD.

I don't understand why people always demonize this disorder, because even at his lows points and splits I have not felt hurt. Especially knowing it's not a reflection of who he is and what he wants.

He has never lashed out on me, or said/done anything awful to me, but is afraid of hurting me. He takes mood stabilizers and just signed up for DBT therapy.

We've had so many honest conversations with lots of communication so far, and I've felt nothing but safe. He's very explicit about his past relationships, how he feels seriously about me vs his past ones, etc. I was worried about how quickly hes gone through other relationships, but he has never had a serious one before either. Only time will tell and I'm keeping my eyes open.

He said he's gone quickly through some friendships, but others are close and last a long time. Besides these patterns, he really has been nothing but sweet to me.

We met and dated about 1 month before I found out I had a job offer somewhere across the country. He drove back with me, and we mutually agreed our values were aligned and long distance was worth it for both of us. He's likes to take care of me ALOT, and I love caring for him too. At his best, we share the same hobbies, love deep conversations, and I feel like I can share my concerns or thoughts without being afraid for the first time, like I said before.

We call daily. He visits monthly. We both have a goal of closing the distance after I stay at this job for a year but on the other hand I've been warned that this isn't a relationship "worth that". My one friend said straight up, because of the BPD, "I don't think this person will be the one for you." That scares me, and I want to hope it's not true. The stigma feels wrong, and I want to decide for myself...

He takes me seriously enough to listen to me when I say he needs to seek DBT therapy. He respects my boundaries. He's self aware, and even pauses during splits to ask himself if what he feels is rational, rather than ever making it my fault. He never victimized me once.

He carries alot of importance on making sure I'm settled into where I live right now before I make any rash goals to close the distance with him, because he knows how badly things can go if we move too fast.

So is it worth it? How can I be there for him and make this work if it is?

With fuel prices skyrocketing because of this war, I'm really scared. I never wanted to move this far away for my job and its so nomadic that I'm even wondering if it's worth it if it means I'm being torn away from my partner and the people I care about.

My boyfriend makes a stable, good income where he is right now so he can't dig it up and leave for me. He already made it clear that my field (journalism) is so nomadic, that he cannot sustain a career if he goes to be with me. I get it. Of course I do. But I hate being so far away from him.

So much of what kept me sane before was knowing he could come see me once a month with his income. Mine was not great, and I get ~10 days of PTO (0 now) starting in August but he has over 4 weeks of it already. But now that tickets are going up, it's getting harder and harder. I know I sound spoiled and I'm lucky monthly visits were even possible.

I'm just trying to keep my head up, knowing this job is not my ultimatum. We don't know where we want to close the distance yet and that scares me too. He doesn't want to live where he is and I don't like where I am. We don't know anything right now.

24, AuDHD + CPTSD. I started my first job in my industry (journalism) and I'm already too tired. It's an easy job as a News Producer, but I'm already jaded, can barely function outside work and want to quit.

Context: I'm 2k miles away from my boyfriend now, and completely alone in a small rustbelt city with no friends so far, so maybe that's taking a roll on me too. On top of this, I'm applying to appartments with a terrible credit score and it's been a long, stressful process.

As soon as I get home I don't even have the energy to cook, so I've lost tons of weight. I just...doomscroll and fall asleep fast. I'm still slow at work with publishing stories, and wonder if journalism is really for me when i sit there and overthink it all. I don't see myself being able to publish 4 stories a week in the future. I don't see 40 hours of work a week being doable in my future long term without burning out. I stay up LATE to "make up for my whole day spent at work" too. My body is a ticking time bomb and I wonder when it'll finally collapse. But i have to keep going because private student loan debt doesn't wait for you. Bills don't wait.

And the pay is so awful that I may need two jobs when even one seems impossible without me breaking down right now. I used to think this was a calling, now I don't care. All I care about is what career can I pursue that is financially rewarding and has a work life balance. I'm horrible with STEM and tech, so not much. I resent how these jobs pry you away from people you care about too. I want to request 1 day off a month, or work remotely 1 day a month to go and visit my partner, but I feel like I can't.

I feel lazy and insane and I know this low paying job only HAS to last a few months but I seriously don't know how I'll make it. Or what to do. Have any of you made a career pivot into something else? What was it? How do you make it work with different support needs in mind?
