Hello, our dog is currently at the emergency vet awaiting an ultrasound and I was hoping to get some answers and what we can expect next.
He woke up at 4:30 this morning and started retching, he threw up liquid and stomach acid, this isn’t the first time this has happened, it’s usually just one and done but this time he kept throwing up liquid every few minutes, no solids came out.
After about an hour of this we took him to a local emergency vet who did an X-Ray which showed a possible obstruction mostly in his stomach but also partially going into his intestine, on the X-Ray it seems like it’s one object and that they’re connected. He recommended an ultrasound to confirm, which is happening shortly. And if the ultrasound confirms an obstruction they’re going to do surgery to have the foreign object removed.
Our dog tries to eat random things pretty often and we usually catch him because he’s always supervised but this time he must have snuck something in without us noticing.
My main concern is obviously for his well being. If surgery is required is it something that has a good prognosis? He was acting fine other than the vomiting when we took him in, the vet said he’s not in immediate danger because we caught it early before there was a complete blockage, they even said we had the option of monitoring him at the hospital for 8 hours but we opted for the ultrasound to speed things up.
Mainly I’m just looking for some encouragement that he’s likely going to be OK given he’s young and healthy and we took him in at the first sign of trouble. The anxiety is killing us right now.
Thanks
